For the first time in the storied rivalry, FOX will broadcast the game with Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt on the call and Jenny Taft on the sidelines. Champions of the Big Ten s East Division, the Buckeyes are 9-2 on the season and 7-1 in Big Ten play. Michigan, meanwhile, is 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. In last week s win over Illinois, Ohio State celebrated Senior Day by jumping out to a 28-0 first quarter lead on the strength of two Mike Weber TD runs and a pair of touchdowns from senior QB J.T. Barrett (one rushing, one passing). The offense finished with 543 total yards, its ninth game this year surpassing the 500 yard mark. The Buckeyes also rushed for 300 or more yards in consecutive games for the first time since 2013 (vs. California and Florida A&M). Defensively, the Buckeyes limited Illinois to just 105 yards of total offense and just 16 through the air. They also held an opponent to less than 100 yards rushing for the fifth time in the last six weeks. Safety Erick Smith and linebacker Chris Worley, both playing for the final time in Ohio Stadium, were the leading tacklers with six and five stops, respectively. Saturday will be Ohio State s 700th game as a member of the Big Ten Conference. In their 105th season, the Buckeyes own the league s best all-time winning percentage at.736 ( ). SCOUTING MICHIGAN Prior to last Saturday s setback at No. 5 Wisconsin, Michigan had won three games in a row and currently stands at 8-3 overall. The Wolverines own wins over Florida, Cincinnati, Air Force, Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland. Michigan has played three quarterbacks this year, as last year s starter Wilton Speight started the first four games before leaving with an injury vs. Purdue. Fifth-year senior John O Korn and sophomore Brandon Peters has also seen extensive action as well. Peters (37-for-64, 486 yards) has thrown a team-best four TD passes while O Korn (66-for-124, 761 yards, one TD, five INT) has played in the most games (eight). The running back position has been handled by the tandem of Karan Higson (136 attempts, 874 yards, 10 TD) and Chris Evans (115 attempts, 594 yards, six TD). Tight End Sean McKeon had a team-best 27 receptions for 279 yards and two TD. The Wolverines defense ranks No. 3 nationally and No. 1 against the pass. The unit is led by sophomore LB Devin Bush, who has 87 tackles, DEFENSIVE LINE Coach Larry Johnson (4th year at Ohio State) Briefly: This unit features depth, talent, experience and 112 combined career starts led by Tyquan Lewis 34 and Sam Hubbard and Dre mont Jones 20 apiece. There are as many as dozen different players along the defensive line who rotate in, and there are six players who ve started at least six games apiece this season. Who are the Rushmen? Four DEs who wreak havoc: Lewis, Jalyn Holmes, Hubbard and Nick Bosa. Honorees: Lewis was the Big Ten s defensive lineman of the year last year. Hubbard was a first-team Academic All-American and is on the national ballot again with his 3.5 GPA in finance. Bosa and Jones were freshmen All-Americans. All are up for honors this season as well. Mid-season All-American: Bosa was named a first-team mid-season All-American by The Sporting News and the All-American, and second team by Sports Illustrated. Notable Notes & Numbers: Led by the defensive line, Ohio State s defense ranks 10th nationally with 8.0TFLs per game. Ten different defensive linemen have at least 2.0 tackles for loss. Demetrius Knox has played well the past five games as a starter after six-game starter Branden Bowen suffered a left leg fracture against Maryland to end his season. Mid All-American, Rimington & Outland Trophy Honoree: Price, a first-team All-American in 2016 by the AFCA, was named a first-team mid-season All-American by the Associated Press. He is on the Rimington Award watch list and is a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy. More Honors: Jones was second-team all-big Ten last year and Jordan was a freshman All-American. RECEIVERS Coach Zach Smith (6th year at Ohio State) Spreading the Wealth: This unit has a core base of six wide receivers who divide reps and all of whom have caught at least 17 passes and at least two touchdown passes. A seventh walk-on C.J. Saunders has also caught 17 passes for 221 yards. Big Play Makers: Those seven wide receivers came into the season with just six combined receptions of 20 or more yards for their career. Eleven games into the season the receiving corps has 36 such receptions. They had also come into 2017 with just four touchdown receptions. They have combined for 28 so far. He picked up record No. 35 vs. Illinois (quarterback rushing yards, topping Braxton Miller s mark of 3,054). Barrett also holds school records for passing yards (9,079) and Big Ten records for TDs responsible for (140) and touchdown passes (101). Barrett is second in Big Ten history with 12,149 total offensive yards and is just 543 from Drew Brees record. He is 10th in NCAA history in TDs responsible for and is 19th in NCAA history in rush yards by a QB (3,070). Barrett s Streak: Barrett had a streak of 190 passes without an interception snapped against Iowa. His streak included a school record 16 consecutive completions in the third and fourth quarters vs. Penn State. Barrett completed 33- of-39 passes for 328 yards and four TDs in the comeback win over the No. 2 Nittany Lions. In the fourth quarter alone, he was 13-for-13 for 170 yards and three touchdowns. RUNNING BACKS Coach Tony Alford (3rd year at Ohio State) Boom Boom: Behind the tandem of Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins, with some J.T. Barrett sprinkled OHIO STATE VS. MICHIGAN HOLMES in, the Buckeyes are coming of consecutive 300 yard games with 335 vs. Michigan State and 325 vs. Illinois in a slog-fest. Weber and Dobbins powered the Buckeyes against the Spartans No. 3 ranked rush defense with 162 and 124 yards, respectively. The dual 100-yard games represented the first by an OSU running back tandem since the 2011 season, when Dan Herron and Carlos Hyde (along with QB Braxton Miller) all topped 100 yards rushing vs. Indiana. Weber kept charging last week vs. Illinois with 108 yards off 11 carries and two more touchdowns. Briefly: Ohio State is 12th nationally in rushing and first in the Big Ten at yards per game. True freshman Dobbins has starred in his 11 starts: he is the fourth Ohio State freshman to top 1,000 yards rushing (1,089) and he boasts a terrific 7.3 yards per carry average that ranks seventh nationally. He is 30th nationally in rushing at 99.0 yards per game. Weber, after missing much of the first four games with a hamstring issue first incurred in fall camp, now has 555 yards rushing and a team-best nine touchdowns. Notable Notes & Numbers: Weber s careerbest rushing day vs. Michigan State included a career-long 82-yard touchdown run. It was the sixth-longest rush in Ohio State history and the longest since Ezekiel Elliott s Bama breaking 85-yarder in the 2014 CFP semifinals at the Sugar Bowl. Webber averaged 18 yards off his nine carries vs. Michigan State. He has three long touchdown runs the past two games of 47, 82 and 43 yards Dobbins averaged 13.2 yards per carry against Army, with 172 yards off 13 carries.
