L, 0-2 MORE ON THE WIN enters the tournament after a road win at Bradley last Friday night in a 3-2 victory over the Braves. The Braves opened scoring in the sixth minute, but it only took 1:11 to strike back. Greczek, off a long kick, connected with Jason Wright deep in Bradley territory. Wright then reached the back of the Brave net from 12-yards out, finishing into the lower right corner. Wright s night continued by putting the Scarlet Knights ahead in the 20th minute. Off a free kick from 25-yards out, the Kingston, Jamaica native placed the ball into the upper left corner for a 2-1 RU edge. Bradley tied the game at 2-2 a little over four minutes into the second half, however, less than a minute later, took back the lead. Thomas Dovell, on his first Scarlet Knight goal, tallied the game-winner taking a pass from Wright at the left corner of the box into the lower opposite corner of the Brave goal. The defense held steadfast as the Scarlet Knights endured 10 Bradley shots in the game s final 40 minutes. Hackett made one tap with his back to the goal, turned and fired away, but the attempt from his right foot went above the crossbar. Shortly after, Creighton would find themselves on the scoreboard. Lucas Stauffer found the back of the Scarlet Knight goal on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. With a man down following a red card, the Bluejays were able to add in an insurance goal in the 65th minute on a Riggs Lennon blast from 30-yards out. After Creighton controlled a throw-in at midfield, the Bluejays Joel Rydstrand and Luke Haakenson found open space to feed Stauffer, who in turn booted the ball as the Scarlet Knights defense surged. Greczek made eight saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights. The Bluejays Alex Kapp made a pair of stops. No. 20 Denver put up an early goal and the Pioneer defense was able to thwart the No. 25 men s soccer attack to hold on for the 1-0 win on August 28 at Yurcak Field. The Pioneers Alex Underwood was able to slip the ball into the Scarlet Knight net two minutes into the contest. Underwood controlled a rebound off the RU defense off a cross from the right side and placed the ball into the left post. While the Denver offense continued to pressure with five more shots thru the game s next 20 minutes, controlled field position to close out the half. Miles Hackett had two of his three attempts of the first half stopped by Pioneer netminder Nick Gardner. Hackett tried to find the gap at the near left post in the 29th minute and followed in the 33rd minute from the right post. He collected the rebound after his second shot was punched out by Gardner, but Hackett s next attempt was ultimately blocked the Denver defense. The Scarlet Knights also had a chance in between Hacketts attempts with a scramble in the box. Ahmad Faheem tried a blast from 17-yards out, but the RU shot was again denied by the Pioneer defense. In the closing moments of the half, the Scarlet Knights were on the attack following a Denver goal kick. Dante Perez s strike, however, was blocked just inside the 18. RU maintained possession for most of the second half in Pioneer territory. Jason Wright had an opportunity with a free kick from 20-yards out but was stopped by the Denver wall at the 70-minute mark. vs #19 CHARLOTTE (Sep 04, 2016 at Charlotte, N.C.) The men s soccer team took on its thirdstraight top 25 opponent on September 4 at No. 19 Charlotte, falling 5-0 to the 49ers in the first road contest of the 2016 season. The 49ers scored twice in the first half, notching the game-winner seven minutes into the contest. Playing from the far right side of the field, Marco Sunol-Rojas flicked the ball into the box to a charging Daniel Bruce for the score into the left corner from eight-yards out. Charlotte added its second tally of the half in the game s 13th minute on the first of two Callum Montgomery goals. Dante Perez had a pair of chances to put the Scarlet Knights onto the scoreboard late in the half. Ryan Peterson crossed to Perez 12-yards out from the far left post in the contest s 30th minute. Controlling the pass, Perez used one touch to fire, but was thwarted by Charlotte keeper Elliot Panicco. In the game s final minutes before the half, Jason Wright dribbled into 49er territory, but was swarmed by four Charlotte players. Finding an opening, Wright passed to Thomas Dovell to set up Perez at the top of the 18. Perez s look though was blocked. The 49ers added three more goals in the early in the second half at the 48, 52 and 56-minute marks. Perez was denied again from finding the back of the Charlotte goal midway through the second half. As the 49er defense circled around Wright inside the 18, Charlotte s attempt at clear was picked up by Perez just outside the box. His look, however, was ultimately blocked. DONIGAN ON THE CREIGHTON GAME: I knew what we were facing when we scheduled these games and Creighton is an exceptional team. We were withstanding what they were throwing at us. I thought we had an unbelievable opportunity with Miles chance. It s early on, but it s only our first regular season game. It s disappointing to lose 2-0 but you ve got to keep perspective that it s a very good team. DONIGAN ON THE DENVER GAME: You can t give up an early goal. Unfortunately we weren t able to capitalize and get behind them. (Denver) did a great job of sustaining what we could throw at them. I felt we were on them for the most part, but they had the lead for 88 minutes of the game. We were the ones that had to chase and push the game. They capitalized on a great opportunity early in the game and credit their management and the effort they gave to defend us. DONIGAN ON THE CHARLOTTE GAME: We need to regroup as we head into next week and conference play. We will get right back to work to fix this. Our team will find a way to put this behind them and move in the right direction.

We responded after going down 2-0, scoring right away in the second half. That goal gave us a shot of confidence and a boost and we were right back into the game. The Eagles Miguel Perez stopped the Scarlet Knight scoring barrage to give his team a two-goal lead, 6-4, in the 70th minute. Perez took a feed from Robert Ferrer inside the 18 to the top right corner. However, fought back and again the Scarlet Knights found themselves down by only one, 6-5, with 12 minutes remaining. Tim McQuaid sent the ball into the box and Wright deflected the Niel Guzman header for his third goal of the night. The Scarlet Knights had four more chances before time expired but all their looks would be off target. The two could not connect and the Wisconsin defense used only one tap to clear the ball, which was then collected by Niel Guzman six-yards out. Guzman fired at the center of the Wisconsin net, but Badger keeper Phillip Schilling came up with the save to prevent extra time for his team. Greczek logged six saves in the loss. Wisconsin s Schilling, meanwhile, registered three saves. DONIGAN ON THE INDIANA GAME: I m a little relieved to be honest because I know what our team is capable of and to perform like that for 110 minutes against a very good Indiana team, I m very proud of them. I m relieved because I know that they were capable of that and I m relieved for them because they see it now too, they understand it. It wasn t like the Maryland game, they got a result this time. Now you get a feeling of satisfaction because we did get a point, we didn t lose. Now we need to use this as continued motivation. DONIGAN ON THE FGCU GAME: As happy as I am that we responded, we came back and had a valient effort in the second half, we can t have those moments like we did in the first 15 minutes of the game, We ll continue to work and continue to battle to try and eliminate those moments and those spans of the game that we give up those opportunties and goals. DONIGAN ON THE WISCONSIN GAME: We played well tonight, but gave them the one chance they need to win the game, said head coach Dan Donigan. We need to key on not giving up easy opportunities for our opponents. While we held them to only one goal, it was the deciding factor. We ll come home and regroup for our upcoming homestand.

There have been a lot of things that have affected us this season, but we are trying to work through this and have an important game coming up. It s disappointing, but we have to move on and live for the next day, the next chance and that s Northwestern on Friday. DONIGAN ON THE NORTHWESTERN GAME: I give credit to Northwestern for continuing to battle and keep plugging away. We were two minutes away from three points in conference in an important game for both teams,. Our depth has been reduced in the last few days, but those are things we have to manage and get through. It s really unfortunate and we have to put this kind of thing behind us and move on to the next game.

The Scarlet Knights had two late chances to put away the equalizer, however the shots landed off target. Following a Columbia corner kick in the 77th minute, Dante Perez changed field position charging down the left side of the field. After finding Jason Wright inside the left corner of the 18, Wright passed the ball to the far side of the field to Tim McQuaid. McQuaid, who had the equalizer to send last Friday night s game at Penn State into overtime, fired from 10-yards out, but saw the ball go high over the Lion net. With a little over a minute remaining, Wright bolted past the Columbia defense and lifted the ball towards the Lion goal. Wright s pass connected with Jesse Weick, but the header from 6-yards out went just outside the right post. Goalkeeper Greczek continued to close in on becoming all-time saves leader after collecting four saves for the Scarlet Knights. The Fairfield, New Jersey native needs three more stops for the record. Greczek s counterpart, Dylan Castanheira, posted a pair of saves in the win for the Lions. Columbia ended the night with a 11-6 advantage in shots and recorded all three of the game s corner kicks. DONIGAN ON THE NJIT GAME: It s been tough with the injuries and the health of players, it all adds up. It s been difficult for all of us, but we need to continue to fight and to move on. We have pride to play for and every time we step between those white lines, we have to believe we can get the job done. DONIGAN ON THE PENN STATE GAME: The guys played really well tonight so it s heart wrenching to play like that on the road and not be able to get the win. All five of our overtime games have come against one of the eight teams from the Big Ten schedule. The margin of difference between all the teams in the league, from top to bottom, is so slim and these teams will make you pay for little mistakes. Unfortunately for us, Penn State was able to keep onsides on that last play. DONIGAN ON THE COLUMBIA GAME: The guys did give another good effort against a very good Columbia team, but we also made a couple of errors that led to their opportunity. I don t think they had that many more equality chances than we did, but we lacked trying to get in behind them and make them uncomfortable defending us. Heading into the last game, we re going to be positive and go into Bradley with the mindset that we can win the game.
