The game will be shown on ESPN3. The Miners lost to Wake Forest (103-81) and beat Western Michigan (85-75) in their first two games of the tournament. The Bulldogs fell to UCF (86-61) and topped Boise State (80-68). ABOUT MISSISSIPPI STATE The Bulldogs are in their second season under the direction of coach Ben Howland, who led UCLA to 233 victories from Howland s Bruins made seven NCAA Tournament appearances with three trips to the Final Four and three 30-win seasons. Mississippi State was last season, 7-11 in the SEC, and welcomes back two starters and three letterwinners. The Bulldogs have 12 newcomers, including nine freshmen. Sophomore guard Quinndary Weatherspoon leads the Bulldogs in scoring (22.0 ppg). He is shooting 52.2 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from beyond the arc and 92.9 percent from the line while also averaging 5.7 rebounds. The other returning starter from a year ago, senior guard I.J. Ready, collects 14.0 ppg and a teamleading 5.7 assists per game. Freshman guard Tyson Carter averages 13.3 ppg, sophomore forward Aric Holman 9.7 ppg and freshman guard Mario Kegler 9.0 ppg as the Bulldogs have gotten 93.2 percent of their scoring from five players. Weatherspoon scored 25 points in Friday s win over Boise State, making 9-of-12 shots. He is averaging 22.0 ppg in the tournament. The Bulldogs shot 49.1 percent from the field, went 19-for-23 from the line and outrebounded the Broncos SERIES HISTORY This is the first meeting between the teams. HOWLAND s Tim Floyd was the head coach at USC for four seasons ( ) while Ben Howland was the head coach at UCLA. FRIDAY RECAP Matt Willms scored a career-high 22 points and Dominic Artis came within an assist of a triple-double, as evened its record in the Gildan Charleston Classic at 1-1 with an victory over Western Michigan on Friday afternoon. The Miners shot 58.7 percent from the field, outrebounded the Broncos and held them to a.419 field goal percentage. Western Michigan s top player, Thomas Wilder, scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half. The Broncos Tucker Haymond worked hard for his 20 points as he made only 6-of-16 shots. Western Michigan s last lead was 6-5 three minutes in. led following a tense first half, then broke a tie with a 13-1 run midway through the second half. Artis, Deon Barrett and Jake Flaggert all hit three-pointers during the spurt that lifted the Miners into a lead with 9:26 to go. Western Michigan pulled within two (64-62) on a jumper by Brandon Johnson with 6:23 to play that capped a 10-0 run. His previous high was 20 points in his very first game for the Miners against Loyola on Nov. 9, Willms also posted career-highs for field goals made (nine) and minutes (29) versus Western Michigan. Willms is averaging 17.5 points and 3.5 blocks in the Charleston Classic with a.789 (15-for-19) field goal percentage. Willms is shooting 82.6 percent (19-for-23) from the floor in , a number which rated ninth in the country through the games of Nov. 18. Dominic Artis is averaging 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists in the Charleston Classic. He has gone to the line 22 times in the two games, including a career-high 14 attempts versus Western Michigan. Artis is averaging 9.3 assists per game, which put him fourth in the nation through the games of Nov. 18. Creighton s Maurice Watson Jr. was first (10.7 apg), Providence s Kyron Cartwright was second (10.0 apg) and Saint Mary s Emmett Naar was third (9.5 apg). Omega Harris is averaging 16.5 ppg in the Charleston Classic and has made 12-of-13 free throws. The Miners have had a 20-point scorer in three straight games to open a season for the first time since when Stefon Jackson did so versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff (22 points), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (27) and Texas A&M (27). hasn t had a 20-point scorer in four consecutive games at the beginning of a season since (first 13 games). The Miners have shot 55.8 percent (58-for-104) from the field in their two Charleston Classic games. The Miners have scored 80 points or more 11 times in the last 14 games overall. MINERS SIGNED UP FOR SAN JUAN is one of eight teams participating in the 2017 Tire Pros Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Miners will join Boise State, Florida State, Illinois State, Iowa State, South Carolina, Tulsa and Western Michigan in the event Nov at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The tournament field was announced on Thursday by ESPN Events. Iowa State and Tulsa participated in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, while Florida State and South Carolina earned bids to the NIT. will be making its first appearance in the tournament, but Miner head coach Tim Floyd is no stranger to the event. His USC Trojans were invited to the 2008 Puerto Rico Tip-Off. THE FLOYD FILE Tim Floyd is in his seventh season on the bench with a career record of , including with the Miners. Floyd ranks second in school history in victories behind the legendary Don Haskins (719) and has also coached the second-most games of any coach (202). The Miners have fashioned a mark of in Conference USA play under Floyd, with top-three finishes on three occasions (tied for second , third , tied for second ). has registered double-digit C-USA victories in five of the six years, including in each of the last four. Floyd has enjoyed 20 winning seasons in 22 years as a collegiate head coach. His teams have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances and five trips to the NIT.
