1 USJN Hoops in the Heartland April Westfield, IN Over 170 teams and nearly 1500 prospects from seven states descended on Hamilton County for the season s first college exposure weekend. 83 of those teams were from the Hoosier state, giving us a great opportunity to see most of Indiana s clubs and prospects over the course of the event. Following are just a few of the weekends prospects that caught our attention during our viewing of games. Pool A 2019 Shailia Beeler 5 7 PG Gym Rats / Warren Central Has added additional bulk and strength to her frame and quickness and cuts appear to indicate she is healthy. Explodes off the bounce with superior speed and agility. Gets to the rim with her handles and athleticism and makes good decision in interior traffic. Shooting the ball from the perimeter with confidence, good elevation and consistency. Has multiple D1 offers. Pool B 2020 Madison Layden 6 0 G Flight / Northwestern Nobody in the gym would know or believe this prospect is a frosh from her 6 0 frame, high level guard skill set and IQ. Carries a very level demeanor on the court and a very consistent game. Is getting physically stronger which is adding new tools to her skill set and is processing at a quicker level after a year of high school ball and more reps at the highest level of club ball. Has D1 offer. Pool CC 2020 Kiersten Pool 5 10 G Team Indiana / Jeffersonville We first saw Kiersten last fall at an All-Star event and was impressed with her versatility. After a year of high school ball she has added some additional skill and played with confidence in our viewing. Nice size 2/3, comfortable with the ball in multiple spots, aggressive play on both ends, passed well and made overall good decisions with the ball. Fairly athletic prospect, with a nice fluid skill set that could blossom over the course of the year. POOL D 2019 Katie Giller F 6 1 Gym Rats / Beech Grove Over the course of the event you really got to see the versatility Katie brings to the floor. On Saturday minus a few teammates she played more around the basket and filled that role nicely with a physical game. The following day she showed her skillset from the wing while dropping threes, being aggressive off the dribble and matching up defensively against different spots. POOL EE 2020 Nan Garcia W 5 11 Gym Rats / Jeffersonville Jeffersonville seems to have a plethora of prospects with long athletic frames and solid guard skill sets. Nan is no exception and as a freshman starter is one of the more intriguing. Once again a long athletic forward frame but can attack the basket from anywhere on the floor with fluid, aggressive ball handling and finishing ability. Like to see her post up smaller opponents more often and play more physical on defensive end.
2 Pool G Meredith Deckard 5 6 G Flight / Martinsville An excellent shooter, does a great job of getting balanced and getting feet set quickly while on the move. Especially dangerous on the spot up. Battles for rebounds and loose balls. Solid ball handler with both hands. Has the ability to attack and create for herself and teammates; as she looks to do that more often it will help her be an offensive threat more consistently. Pool GG 2020 Alaina Vinson 5 10 W Magic / Roncalli Consistent shoot with range out past the three point line. Has shown the ability to hit even when contested. Has the ability to attack the basket if you close out too hard and can finish in traffic. Is willing to battle in the post but will need to add strength in order to truly be a threat inside. Does a good job defensively of keeping her girl in front of her and uses length to contest shots. Pool H 2018 Alex Burr 6 1 F Gym Rats / Westview Under the radar 2018 post that possess both size and skill. Has a strong long athletic frame to go along with nice feet and solid hands. Plays physical around the rim on both ends and comfortable facing up with the ball away from the basket. Showed good leadership and communication from the backline defensively. Needs to be a little more consistent from game to game but shows the tools are there. We liked how vocal and energetic she was from the bench as well. Pool HH 2020 Ella Collier 5 10 W Flight / Danville An excellent scorer from the wing. Her strength is her shooting but continues to show ability to score in a variety of ways. Is tough to handle in transition because of her ability to shoot off the dribble and get to the rim. Does a good job defensively and is always in good help side position. Pool I 2020 Caily Bolser 6 3 F Indiana s Best / North Miami First thing you notice is that Caily has added bulk and strength to her 6 3 frame since last season. The lefty freshman has lots of upside with the combination of her size and the ability to play away from the rim. She has had her share of growing pains in the last year but once healthy she has a high ceiling Delany Richason 6 1 F Team Indiana / Zionsville Has a nice broad skill set for a front liner. She is usually operating around the basket but is very comfortable with the ball out top and even putting it on the floor. One of the best post passers in her class, good interior passing and sees and reacts very well faced up from the elbows. Stays active on defense and aggressive to the boards on both ends. Pool J 2020 Julia Rohlfing 6 1 F SDE / Westfield Currently not a big part of the offensive scheme but made the most of opportunities and showed willingness to play physical against older opponents. Brought both energy and aggressiveness to the floor during her rotations. As she improves quickness of her feet and her overall skill set she will be a nice prospect to keep an eye on Danyelle Hutson 5 3 G Showcase / Madison Grant Small in stature but has a high motor, solid skill level and capable of delivering a big performance. Had a good showing in the event including a 28 point performance to start out the event. Good aggressive handles, plays downhill and capable shooter. Good balance and quick hands on defense with good anticipation. Needs consistency but shows she is capable of being a force. Pool M 2018 Skye Williams 5 6 G Family / Tindley Tremendous athlete, has the ability to be a force on both ends of the floor. Her ability to get to the basket makes her especially dangerous in transition. Always on the attack Skye will look to exploit every seam in the defense she can find. Finishes at the basket at a high rate and does a good job of finding the open player when help side rotates and shuts off her drive.
3 POOL MM 2021 Grace Adams 5 11 W Hoosier Premier / Penn Only got to see this prospect for part of one game but really liked what we saw. Long athletic prospect with a solid fluid skill set. Showed good instincts on both ends which allowed her to be in positions to make plays. Showed versatility on the offensive end with ability to hit shots and get to the rim. Effected the game on both ends with her length. Looking forward to seeing more from her in the near future. POOL O 2018 Ari Gerdt CG 5 11 NWI Thunder / Valparaiso Uses her length to defend passing lanes and can come up with deflections in bunches. Good at setting up driving lanes with a jab step, combined with her long stride she is often able to get past her defender. Isn t shy about going up in traffic or through contact around the rim and in the paint getting to the foul line with regularity. POOL T 2019 Allie Owens G 5 8 Flight / Lincoln Allie has put a lot of work into her game over the last year plus and its starting to show dividends. She shot the ball extremely well and seem to be processing at a quicker level. Needs continue to develop to punish opponents off the dribble and continue to add strength to frame. Showed a good motor and put herself in position to make plays defensively. POOL U 2020 Hannah Noveroske C 6 4 Gym Rats / Michigan City A big body post that showed good hands, feet and finished at a pretty good clip. Does a good job of using her frame to create space and was active in getting position on both ends. Ran the floor fairly well and was able to find balance and reasonable agility on the move. As she continue to work on conditioning and playing at this higher level her game will continue to grow. POOL W 2019 Trintee Harris CG 5 7 MBA Select / Elkhart Tough to keep out of the paint; her strength and athleticism combined with her ball handling ability allow her to beat her defender at will. Can finish at the rim in traffic with either hand. Does a good job of finding teammates when the defense rotates. Shows ability to make plays defensively. POOL X 2019 Grace Hale F 6 2 Gym Rats / Floyd Central Has the tools to end up as one of the top post prospects in her class. Has the D1 frame, with both strength and agility. Runs the floor as well as any big. Needs continue work on finishing consistently and growing her face up game. Quick feet adds to ability to attack the boards and help and recover defensively. Pool Y 2021 Courtney Blakely G 5 5 Hamblin / Mccullough Academy Has the ability to be a menace on the ball defensively using her quickness, can force turnovers in bunches if opposing guards aren t on their A-game. Is able to get by her defender with ease and can be to the hoop in a flash if help side isn t ready to rotate. Added strength and a more consistent outside shot will really help round out her game.
