3 Mission Statement To afford the opportunity for every youth (boy and girl) to learn, play, enjoy and excel at lacrosse, while honoring the game and respecting their coaches, officials, teammates and opponents. 8 Sportsmanship Code of Conduct (Full text on website) Sportsmanship and teaching the concepts of fair play are essential The emphasis on winning should never be placed above the value of good sportsmanship, the concepts of fair play, or the skills of the game. Keep comments positive - derogatory comments are unacceptable. The safety and welfare of the players are of primary importance. Treat officials well, it s a tough job, we want them back. No member should allow anyone to openly criticize, badger, harass, or threaten an official. Honor the Game - Knowledge of the Rules of Lacrosse must be respected and adhered to by all who participate in the game of lacrosse, both in the letter and spirit.
9 Expected Spectator Behavior Model good sportsmanship. Applaud good team play, individual skill and outstanding examples of sportsmanship and fair play exhibited by either team. Treat visiting teams and officials as guests; extend to them every courtesy. Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat. Respect the judgment and integrity of officials, realizing that their decisions are based upon game conditions as they observe them. Applaud and cheer loudly, but leave cowbells, horns, and other noisemakers at home they are prohibited at HRLax events.
10 HRLax Alcohol & Drug Policy Parents and Spectators: HRLax prohibits the use of alcohol by coaches, parents and officials attending or participating in any HRLAX youth activity. Those who are noticeably under the influence of alcohol or drugs at an event will be asked to leave Players: Zero-Tolerance for alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs (including illegal performance-enhancing substances) Supports school-imposed consequences by extending activity suspensions to HRLax events.
11 Health Dehydration Ensure players drink water before practice Provide water for practice In cold weather they still sweat, but tend to drink less Health Proper Dress Ensure players are dressed appropriately for the weather
12 Health Concussions. A type of traumatic brain injury (TBI), caused by a blow or jolt to the head that can range from mild to severe and can disrupt the way the brain normally works. Return-to-Play protocols Return-to-Play Form required Physician Signed Baseline testing highly recommended Contrary to popular belief, no helmet in any sport can prevent a concussion.
13 Health Commotio Cordis Extremely rare occurrence, but often fatal Heart fibrillates when chest struck Must occur at specific time in heart beat No previous heart issues Best treatment is immediate defibrillation AEDs at major facilities
14 Safe Sports Environment All Coaches pass an NCSI Background Check All Coaches take the Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach course All take the NFHS Concussion Awareness course Head coach must be fully Level 1 Certified Above Plus.. Level 1 Clinic Level 1 On-line How to Make Proper Contact (Boys only) Asst coach needs either Level 1 Clinic or Level 1 On-line
15 Sideline Policy Only HRLax Coaches or Admin on player sideline 2016 HRLax Coach Credentials displayed Spectators must remain on spectator sideline behind limit line (usually 6yds from sideline)
16 Safe Sports Environment Weather Policy If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, all shall vacate the field and seek safe shelter. Play will be suspended for 30 minutes after the last occurrence/flash. On practice days, be ready to pick up players early AVOID the following during a thunderstorm: The showers or plumbing of a building, as well as electrical appliances in a building. Small covered shelters outside, such as dugouts, bleachers, rain shelters, golf shelters, picnic shelters. Areas connected to or near light poles, towers and fences Any location which is the highest point in the area
17 Safe Sports Environment Abuse prevention Zero-Tolerance of Abuse Includes those acts which violate the law. Also includes emotional abuse: o insulting, threatening, mocking or demeaning behavior from all: Coaches, Players, or Parents. Every member of this organization is responsible for reporting any cases of questionable conduct or alleged mistreatment toward our members by any coach, official, volunteer, player, parent, sibling or spectator.
18 Safe Sports Environment Abuse prevention Protecting the Child: Buddy System: No child should go anywhere alone should always take a buddy. Helping the Coaches if only one coach present: Drop off policy: First parent to drop off must stay with coach until second player arrives. Pick up policy: Second-to-last parent to pick-up must stay with coach until last child is picked up.

20 Girls Youth Lacrosse Information The GYL runs 4 age groups and services roughly 100 athletes. U8 you can expect no checking and a modified 7v7 format with 20 minute running halves on a half field, shooting on a hector. U10 you can expect no checking and 20 minute running halves in a full field format with goalies. U12 and U14 you can expect full checking with 25 minute running halves on a full field with goalies. Please check the US Lacrosse website for a full list of GYL rules and regulations.

22 Girls Parent Information Some Key Season Dates: Field Prep: Feb 13, Feb 14 (backup) We will have a committee handle this and will be looking for parent volunteers. 24 Boys Game-Play Time Policy U-8 through U-10: Players should be participating at every practice and game. Playing time divided as equally as possible between all players. Players encouraged to try all positions U-12 through U-14: Players should all be participating at every practice. Coaches should play every player in every game (assuming that player is in good standing with the team policies) Coaches may rely on certain players to accomplish what is best for the entire team.

U-14: Checking allowed, within rules 3 step / 3 yard rule All Ages No one handed tomahawk checking 4 quarters 12 minutes each (running clock)
