He was the head coach for the 2008 U.S. National Junior Team and has served as assistant coach for Team USA at the IIHF Junior Championship on three occasions, including 2004, when he helped lead the U.S. National Junior Team to its first-ever gold medal at the event. He also served as an assistant coach for the 2002 and 2006 U.S. National Junior Teams. In , Hynes led the U.S National Under-17 Team to the North American Hockey League North Division playoffs, including an appearance in the NAHL North Division finals. He also guided the team to first-place finishes in the 2007 Toys for Tots Four Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., the 2007 Under-18 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, and a second-place finish at the 2006 Phantom Fireworks Four Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. 29 IIHF_U18_08.qxp 4/5/08 4:40 PM Page 29 TIM TAYLOR Assistant Coach Tim Taylor, in his first season with USA Hockey s National Team Development Program, will serve as the assistant coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team in Taylor has a long history with USA Hockey as a veteran of two Olympic Winter Games. In 1984, he was both the assistant general manager and assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team in Sarajevo. Taylor then served as head coach for Team USA in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway. He also led the United States to its best finish at a Canada Cup when the team captured second place at the event in Taylor stood at the helm of the U.S. Men s National Team at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship four straight years ( ). He also served as an assistant coach for the team at the 1981 and 1983 events. Taylor s coaching resume includes a historic 28-year run ( / / ) as the head coach of Yale University s men s ice hockey team. He coached more games than anyone else in the history of the ECAC Hockey and led the Bulldogs to six Ivy League titles and 19 ECACH playoff appearances. He earned the ECACH Coach of the Year Award on three occasions (1987, 1992, 1998). In the last two years, Taylor has won two of USA Hockey s most prestigious awards. In 2006, he received USA Hockey s Distinguished Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the sport of ice hockey in the United States. Taylor also won the Walter Yaciuk Award in 2007 for his contributions to USA Hockey s Coaching Education Program during many years of service as a volunteer. JOE EXTER Assistant Coach Joe Exter, in his first season with USA Hockey s National Team Development Program, will serve as the first-ever full-time goaltending coach. Exter s responsibilities include planning, designing and executing the regular on-ice practices for goltenders at the NTDP as well as scouting and evaluating the nation s top goaltending prospects. The Cranston, R.I., native spent last season with the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League, where he was responsible for the team s defensemen and goaltenders, as well as overseeing scouting and recruiting efforts. Prior to his time with the RoughRiders, Exter spent a season ( ) as an assistant coach at American International College (Mass.). Before he joined the coaching ranks, Exter spent two seasons playing professionally in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization following a standout three-year career at Merrimack College (Mass.). As a captain in his final season, Exter was named to the All-Hockey East Second Team. A 2003 graduate of Merrimack, Exter earned his bachelor s degree in political science. Wroblewski, who will assist both coaching staffs, joins the NTDP following a four-year career in the East Coast Hockey League with the Fresno (Calif.) Falcons. An original member of the NTDP as a player, Wroblewski totaled 78 points (40-38) in 152 games between As a member of the U.S. National Under-17 Team, Wroblewski earned All- Tournament honors at the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. After leaving the NTDP, Wroblewski played four seasons ( ) at the University of Notre Dame. During his senior season Wroblewski served as team captain and was a finalist for the 2003 Hockey Humanitarian Award. The Neenah, Wis., native earned a bachelor s degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame in Wroblewski currently resides in Ann Arbor, Mich. SCOTT MONAGHAN General Manager One of the original members of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, Scott Monaghan is responsible for all aspects of the NTDP. He has served on the staff of five U.S. National Junior Teams and nine U.S. National Under-18 Teams, including the gold medal-winning Under-18 Team at the 2002, 2005 and 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-18 Championships. Before joining the NTDP, Monaghan spent eight years with the Lake Superior State University Athletic Department. He served as the Lakers sports information director for four seasons ( ). In 1993, Monaghan was appointed to serve as an assistant athletic director. While with the Lakers, Monaghan coordinated fund raising and construction for the $5.9 million Gem of the North, as well as all marketing and ticket sales efforts. 32 IIHF_U18_08.qxp 4/5/08 4:40 PM Page 32 RON DEGREGORIO President A lifetime and career spent dedicated to advancing the sport of hockey in America culminated on June 14, 2003, with Ron DeGregorio s election as just the fourth president in the history of USA Hockey. DeGregorio has been involved in the sport for more than 40 years as a player, coach, administrator and team owner. His first appointment with USA Hockey came in 1973 when he was named registrar for the New England District. DeGregorio was first elected to the USA Hockey Board of Directors in 1975 and was the organization s first vice president of youth hockey. In the 1980s, he served as treasurer of USA Hockey. In 1995, he was elected as a vice president and the international council chairperson, positions he held until being named president. He has represented the United States at countless events during his tenure with USA Hockey. He served as team leader of Team East at the 1979 United States Olympic Festival, from which the 1980 Miracle On Ice U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team was chosen and also for the 1994 U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team. DeGregorio has represented the United States at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games and at numerous International Ice Hockey Federation Men s, Women s and Junior World Championships. Honored with the National Hockey League s Lester Patrick Award in 2002 for outstanding service to ice hockey in the United States, DeGregorio is president of the PenFacs Group, an investment and insurance firm specializing in the design, administration and funding of executive benefit plans. He resides in Salem, N.H., with his wife, Susan. He has four grown children, Eric, Mark, Kim and Kara. DAVE OGREAN Executive Director Dave Ogrean returned to USA Hockey as executive director on Aug. 1, He previously held the position from and began his career in the sports industry with the organization (then the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States) as its director of public relations in He is ranked among the top 50 people of power and influence in hockey by The Hockey News. Among his many accomplishments during his first stint as executive director, Ogrean oversaw a significant increase in membership and revenue and the construction of the current national headquarters; helped create the USA Hockey InLine program and the National Team Development Program; was a driving force in establishing the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women s ice hockey; and developed the concept of STAR (Serving the American Rinks) with U.S. Figure Skating. Before returning to Colorado Springs, Ogrean served as executive director of USA Football from He was recruited by the National Football League and NFL Players Association to build a new, independent, non-profit organization to support and promote the sport of amateur football at all levels. Prior to joining USA Football, Ogrean served as president and CEO of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation where he led the development and creation of the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame and the Rocky Mountain State Games. Ogrean received his bachelor s degree in English from the University of Connecticut (1974) and his master s degree in film from Boston University (1978). 33 IIHF_U18_08.qxp 4/5/08 4:40 PM Page 33 TONY ROSSI Vice President, International Council Chair Outside of a highly successful business career, Tony Rossi has generously donated significant time, resources and expertise to USA Hockey for more than 30 years at the grassroots and executive leadership levels. After beginning his volunteer career with the National Governing Body in the mid-1970s, Rossi was elected to the USA Hockey Board of Directors in 1983 and served as a director from the Central District until In 1989, he was elected to the USA Hockey Executive Committee, serving as secretary from In 1995, Rossi transitioned to the role of USA Hockey treasurer, a position he held until June In his role as both secretary and treasurer, Rossi helped guide the formation and growth of The USA Hockey Foundation, a charitable and educational non-profit corporation that provides long-range financial support for USA Hockey and promotes the growth of hockey in the United States. In June of 2003, Rossi was elected to his current post as USA Hockey vice president and international council chair. In his role, Rossi works closely with the organization s National and Olympic Team programs, as well as the International Ice Hockey Federation during a host of global competitions held throughout the year. Rossi also serves as president for RMK Management Corporation and Moran & Company. He resides in Chicago with his wife, Marie, and has four children, Elena, Deanna, Michael, and Tony, Jr. WALTER BUSH, JR. Chairman of the Board One of the most recognized and respected leaders in hockey, Walter L. Bush, Jr., is the chairman of the board for USA Hockey, a position he has held since June Bush, who served as a member of the organization s Board of Directors from , became president of USA Hockey in June 1986, following Wm. Thayer Tutt and Tom Lockhart. He served in the capacity for 17 years before taking his current position as chairman of the board. In recognition of his 45th year of service to USA Hockey, the organization dedicated its national headquarters as The Walter L. Bush, Jr. Center in June of Bush serves as a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Council and, in June 2003, was reelected to a third consecutive term as a vice president of the IIHF. Bush is also active with numerous committees within the IIHF, having served as chairman of the IIHF Women s Ice Hockey Committee, the IIHF InLine Hockey Committee and the selection committee for the newly created IIHF Hall of Fame. Bush is a member of the Board of Directors of the USOC and is secretary of the U.S. Olympic Foundation. During the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Bush received the Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee, the highest honor in the Olympic movement. Bush was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in He received the NHL s Lester Patrick Award in 1973 in recognition of his outstanding service to ice hockey in the United States. He was enshrined in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980 and, in 1989, was elected to the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame. He currently serves as a governor and vice-chairman for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Bush resides in Naples, Fla., with his wife, Sis.
