3 EXHIBITOR PASSES Light Horse/Hackney Exhibitors will receive 1 Gate Pass (Armband) per Exhibitor of 4 or less horses entered, 2 Gate Passes for 5 or more horses entered. Draft horse Exhibitors will received 6 Gate Passes (Armbands) per 6 horse hitch, 4 per 4 horse hitch. People wishing to attend the show prior to gate being open must purchase an armband. 4 Horse Show Rules **ALL EXHIBITORS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY PROPER LIABILITY INSURANCE WHILE PARTICIPATING AT PROVINCIAL EXHIBITION OF MANITOBA EVENTS** (proof of insurance required with entry) 1. All entries must be submitted on the entry form provided and all information necessary for the class must be legible. Failure to comply will render the entry null and void. No Changes or substitutions are allowed after the submission of entries without veterinary certification. 2. MEMBERSHIPS: All exhibitors participating in the Manitoba Summer Fair Horse Show must provide proof of third-party liability insurance in lieu of Provincial Sport Organization membership. ApHC Exhibitors MUST provide proof of membership with the ApHC, as well as proof of ApHC registration for their horse/pony. ApHC NON-PRO CARDS: All exhibitors wanting to participate in the ApHC Non-Pro classes must provide proof of amateur status. 3. The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba unconditionally reserves the right to accept or reject any entry and return the entry fee without being liable for compensation. The decision of the Horse Show Committee is final. 4. The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba reserves, unconditionally, the right to inspect or verify any entry. 5. Barns must be available to the public at all times. Stalls are to be cleaned, into the designated areas prior to 8:00 am. Aisles and passages will be kept clean and clear at all times. 6. Livestock vehicles will park in assigned areas. This rule will be strictly enforced and offenders will have their vehicles towed away at the owner s expense. 7. Horse show Management reserves the right to change or amend show scheduling up to one hour prior to the designated class. 8. DOGS are allowed in the barns and campground on a leash, but will not be allowed in any other area. 9. NO SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLERBLADES, unauthorized Golf Carts, Gator Style ATV s and/or other similar vehicles in the Horse barns at any time. Those wishing to use such vehicles to travel to and from the camper area must park them at their own risk outside the barns. 10. Behaviour of exhibitors and associates must be above reproach at all times. Failure to comply will result in ejection from the buildings and grounds, forfeiture of entry fees and suspension of exhibiting privileges. This includes ALCOHOL. Exhibitors are responsible to comply with the Manitoba Liquor and Gaming Act. Drinking is permitted in licensed areas only. Violators of this rule will be dealt with accordingly.

5 11. All ApHC and ApHCC classes will run in accordance with their associations current rules & regulations. 12. Prize Money: will be paid to the person whose name appears on the entry form as the owner unless otherwise specified on the entry form. Juniors must have their parent or guardian signature on the entry form and waiver forms must be filled out and signed. Should a prize be found to have been awarded in error on the part of the judges, clerks or director in charge, or false evidence, or by misrepresentation or violation of any of the rules, the money will be withheld or if paid in error, must be returned. Prize cheques will be mailed and must be cashed within four months of date of issue. All cheques not cashed within this period will be forfeited. A list of entries will be posted prior to each class where add backs are involved. 13. Exhibitors under the age of 18 may not ride, drive, show on the line or handle stallions on the grounds. 14. A class may be declared cancelled at the discretion of the Horse Show Committee if insufficient entries are received. Classes must have 3 entries in order to show. In the case of insufficient entries classes, classes may be merged at the discretion of the show committee. 15. CANCELLATION: Manitoba Summer Fair must receive WRITTEN NOTICE of cancellation via or fax. (Any Refunds will be refunded after the show is complete.) Cancellation before closing date: entries will be refunded in full Cancellation after closing date: Only after a Veterinarian certificate or Doctors certificate is presented to the show secretary will the class fees and exhibitor fees be refunded stall fees and an office fee of $30 will not be refunded. Cancellation after the show begins: Upon presentation of a Veterinarian certificate or Doctors certificate to the show secretary, class fees for the classes not shown in in, will be refunded minus a $30 office fee. Stall fees and all other exhibitor fees will not be refunded. 16. ADD/SCRATCHES: Add/Scratches must be done by 4:00pm the day before the class is scheduled. Any Add/Scratches after 4:00pm the day before may be subject to a $5 late fee and it is the responsibility of the rider to inform the in gate after add/scratch is received at the show office. If a late add is received for a class, that exhibitor MUST go first in the class. 17. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES SHALL BE FINAL. 18. PROTESTS: All protests must be made out to the MSF in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $ cash. Such protests must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal and must be delivered to the Horse Show committee within 48 hours after the completion of the class concerned. Complaints must be verifiable and will be reviewed by the Appeals Committee. 19. SHOW NUMBERS: Exhibitors in the light horse show must have Show Numbers visible at ALL TIMES in warm up, exercise areas as well as in the competition ring. 20. No riders under 18 years of age will ride over fences without a coach/or responsible adult AND medical personal present.

6 21. DRESS FOR EXHIBITORS: Exhibitors are not allowed in the ring unless appropriately attired, In inclement weather attire is at the discretion of the judge. Light Horse i. English Attire: Exhibitors should be neatly attired in hunt coats and breeches of traditional colours, show-shirts with rat catcher (stock tie, choker, or rat catcher dickie) tall boots or paddock boots/jodhpurs. Half Chaps or Jodhpur Straps/Garters are allowed. ii. Western Attire: In all western classes it is mandatory to wear appropriate western attire, including pants (slacks, trouser, jeans, etc.), long-sleeved shirt with collar (band, stand-up, tuxedo, etc.), western hat or helmet, and cowboy boots. 1. Chaps are optional at all ApHC approved shows. iii. Helmets (Hard Hats): All riders under the age of 18 must where an approved ASTM/SEI helmet with safety harness correctly fastened at all times while mounted on the competition grounds. 1. Youth exhibitors must wear helmets if participating in all game classes, 2. We highly recommend protective head gear for all exhibitors, adults choosing to wear protective head gear in western classes are not required to have head gear that looks like a western hat. Hackney & Draft Horse i. Exhibitors and Attendants: Men/Boys: Jacket and slacks, or suits, with tie. Women/Girls dress is to enhance overall entry. Appropriate footwear is required please no open toe shoes or flip-flops. ii. Helmets are strongly encouraged for all and MUST be worn by anyone age 18 and under in class 31 Saddle Horse Class, any attire. 22. The barns will be available by noon on Friday for move in and a release time is after 4:00 PM Sunday. Anyone who leaves early, without permission of the show committee, may be subject to forfeiture of any prize money won during the competition. Competitors wishing to arrive earlier or stay longer mist make arrangements with the show secretary and are subject to additional fees.

7 Light Horse Show WESTERN DIVISION CLASSES: Class Guidelines: Entries shall be shown with a stock saddle. Silver equipment will not be given any preference over a good working outfit. Reference to hackamore means the use of a flexible braided rawhide or leather, or rope bosal, the core of which may be either rawhide or flexible cable. Note: For horses 6 years and older a shank bit is required and riders must hold the reins in one hand. Riders will wear appropriate western attire, including a long-sleeved shirt with collar, western hat (or protective headgear) and cowboy boots or ropers. Spurs and chaps are optional. At the judge s discretion, attire may be adjusted to meet weather conditions. Western Pleasure - To be judged on performance, condition and conformation of horse. To be ridden at walk, jog and lope in both directions. Riders will sit the extended jog if the gait is requested. Horses will be required to back easily and stand quietly. English Division Entry Fee: $6.00 O16 O17 Show Hack English saddle of any type is required, bridle as appropriate. Whips, martingales, tie downs, boots or bandages are not permitted. Horses to be shown at a walk, trot, and canter with collected and extended gaits called at the judges discretion. Horses are to stand quietly. Judge may call for a rein back. No ponies unless ridden by an adult. Road Hack Hunt Seat Attire is appropriate, but any English style tack and attire is permitted. Whips, martingales, tie downs, boots or bandages are not permitted. To be shown at a flat-footed walk with a reasonably loose rain, trot, extended trot, canter, and hand gallop. No ponies unless ridden by an adult. Hunter Pleasure - to be judged at walk, trot and canter only - NO hand gallop will be required. 10 Hunter Division Entry Fee: $6.00 This division is open to any breed of horse or pony. A warm up fence will be available in the warm up ring. Schooling rounds will be held 1 hour prior to the start of jumping classes, a fee of $5.00 per horse will be added for schooling. Maximum 8 horses in ring at one time during schooling rounds. A sign-up sheet will be posted. The course will be posted. Beginner classes are open to competitors in their first 2 years of showing. There will be no cross entry for horse/rider combinations competing in ground rail classes into classes 2 0 or higher. 14 FUN FUN SHOW GAMES ENTRY: $15 Play as many games as you would like. Game rules and patterns will be posted. Games will be played in teams of 4, hand offs will be right and to right hand, Team members may not start until team member on course has crossed the start/change over line. Egg and Spoon Riders will ride down the line weaving the poles, carrying the egg on the spoon. The egg must not be touched by hand except when being picked up. Riders will hand the spoon to the next person on their team without touching the egg. The winning team will be the one whose rider 4 crosses the finishing line first carrying the egg on the spoon. Should the egg be dropped, the rider must either pick it up, or collect another from a volunteer. Pony Express Race Riders 1 & 3 will start at the Start line, Riders 2 & 4 start at the opposite end of the arena. Rider 1 will start by weaving through the poles, to the centre line where he/she will dismount pick up an envelope and put it in the sack before remounting. They will then continue down the line weaving the poles and pass the sack to rider 2. Canadian Race (modified) Riders weave through the poles with a hockey stick, dismount hit a ball through the goal posts, remount and ride back weaving through the poles to the start line passing the hockey stick to the next rider. Winner is the team whose 4 th member gets back across the start line. Stepping Stone Dash Race Riders 1 & 3 will start at the start line, Riders 2 & 4 start at the opposite end of the arena. Rider 1 starts by riding to the stepping stones, dismounting and running across, remounting and continuing on to the end of the arena, where Rider 2 will then begin. Game continues on the same way the winning team will be the one whose rider 4 is the first over the finish line. Fishing Race Riders ride toward a basket at center line hock a fish, and continue to the end carrying the fish on the end of a cane (fishing rod), where a volunteer or 5 th team member will take unhook the fish and secure it to the stand, once the fish is on the stand the rider will return to the start line passing the fishing rod to the next team member. Five Flag Race Game starts with Rider 1 riding to the other end of the arena with a flag, He/she will then place the flag in the pylon, rider to the center line pick up another flag ride to the start line and hand the flag to the next rider. The game continues on in the same way, and ends with rider 4 crossing the finish line with the 5 th flag. Two Flag Race Riders 1 and 3 start behind the start line, Riders 2 and 4 start at the opposite end of the arena. Rider one starts the race by riding forward and placing the first flag in the pylon, he/she then continues on to the second pylon picks up the flag continuing to the end of the arena and passes it to rider 2, the game continues this way the winning team is the one whose last rider is over the finishing line carrying a flag. 8

15 Groom s Race On the signal to start, Rider 1 will ride down the course, waving through the bending poles, leading Rider 2 s horse/pony. On reaching Rider 2, he/she will hand over Rider 2 s horse/pony to him/her. Rider 2 will then mount and pass down, weaving through the line of polls, leading Rider 3 s horse/pony. After Rider 2 has started, rider 1 will hand his/her horse/pony to rider 4. Rider 2, on reaching Rider 3 will hand him/her the horse/pony, and Rider 3 will mount and pass down, weaving through the bending poles leading Rider 4 s horse/pony. On receiving the horse/pony Rider 4 will mount and pass down, weaving through the bending poles leading rider 2 s horse/pony. The winning team will be that whose rider 4 crosses the finishing line first, leading Rider 1 s horse/pony. Sword Race Riders 1 & 3 start at the start line, Riders 2 & 4 start at the opposite end of the arena. Rider 1 rides toward the poles and picks up a ring on the sword, he/she then rides on and passes the sword to Rider 2. Riders 2, 3, & 4 complete the course in the same way, up and down the arena successively. The winning team is the one whose rider 4 crosses the finish line with all four rings on the sword. At no time may the sword be grasped by the blade or the rings held onto. Unless the rings/sword has been dropped, then riders may then dismount pick up ring/sword and remount. Rope Race Riders 1 and 3 start at the start line, Riders 2 and 4 start at the opposite end of the arena. Rider 1 will weave through the bending poles to the other end of the arena, where Rider 2 will grasp the other end of the rope. Both riders will then ride back weaving through the poles holding on to the rope. Once they get to the start line rider 1 will release the rope and ride 3 will grasp the rope. Game will continue the same way the winning team will be the team whose riders 3 and 4 are first across the finishing line. Sack Race Two team members start at the start line, the other two team members start at the opposite end of the arena. Riders ride toward the center line, dismount before crossing the center line, get into the sack and run/hop to the end of the arena in the sack leading their horse/pony, get out of the sack and hand it to the next rider who completes the course the same way. The wining team will be the one whose last team member is across the finishing line, on his/her feet in the sack and leading his/her pony. Team Relay Bending Race Riders take turns weaving up and down through the poles, on returning to the start line, he/she will hand the baton to rider 2. The game continues on in the same way, the winning team is the one whose rider 4 crosses the finish line mounted and carrying the baton. 9

16 Hackney Show HARNESS PONY Open to Registered Hackney Ponies. To be shown with long mane and undocked tail, in the appropriate vehicle (i.e., Viceroy). Over-checks are not permitted. For horse show purposes the maximum height of harness ponies shall be over 11.0 hands (44 ) and not exceeding 12.2 hands (50 ). H1 Single Harness Pony (Open) To be judged on performance, quality, and manners. Park Pace and Show Your Pony, Entries will not be backed. H2 Single Harness Pony Championship (Open) To be judged on performance, quality, and manners. Park Pace and Show Your Pony, Entries will not be backed. ROADSTER PONY Open to registered Hackney Ponies who must be 13.0 hands (52 ) and under. To be shown to a road cart or bike, drivers to wear stable colours, cap and/or helmet and jacket to match. Only one attendant is allowed in the ring to head a pony. They may stand the entry on its feet and then remain 2 paces distant from the head. Ponies will remain checked except during a workout. Entries must be shown to an appropriate vehicle, either a two wheeled basket type jogging cart or road bike with basket. H7 Junior Exhibitor Driving (Hackney Pony) Open Driving Classes Open to all exhibitors participating in driving classes (Draft, Hackney, and Light Horse), all pleasure driving classes are to be shown with a suitable 2 or 4 wheeled pleasure vehicle and appropriate harness. Horses will be judged at a walk, slow walk, working trot and strong trot, excessive speed to be penalized. Classes to be split at show committee s discretion. H8 Open Turn-out Shown at walk, slow walk, working trot and strong trot. To be judged 50% on performance, manners and way of going: 40% on the condition fit and appropriateness of harness and vehicle; 10% on overall impression. This will be the first driving class of the show. H9 Reinsmanship In addition to showing at the required gaits, drivers will be required to rein back and, at the discretion of the judge, may be asked to execute a figure eight or other appropriate tests. To be judged 75% on handling of reins and whip, control of horse(s), posture and overall appearance of driver, 25% on condition of harness and vehicle and neatness of attire.. H10 Open Pleasure Driving No race or roadster bikes allowed. To be judged 70% on performance, manners and way of going, 20% on condition and fit of harness and vehicle, and 10% on neatness of attire. 11

18 H11 Open Driven Obstacles A course will be set up comprised of several obstacles to be driven through or around. The horse is to be driven through the course of obstacles, which will be posted prior to the class. A fault occurs for disobediences (run outs, refusals, etc.) and knock downs (dislodging the tennis balls on the cones or another obstacles marker being used. Cones will mark the entry and exit for the course. Faults will also be given for breaking gait to the canter. Ties will be broken by the best time. H12 Open Driven Progressive Cones The horse is to be driven at the trot within a set time over a course of six numbered obstacles which will be adjusted to the following clearances: #1 20, #2 16, #3 12, #4 8, #5 4, #6 2. After passing the starting line, the driver shall proceed through each obstacles, in order, until finishing the course or dislodging an obstacle. Time will be stopped when the real axle clears the last obstacle or when an obstacle is dislodged. A disobedience (refusal, run-out, circle) will be scored as a dislodgement of the obstacle at which the disobedience occurs. Going off course will incur elimination. Breaking gait to the canter will be scored as a disobedience. Time will decide ties. Draft Horse Show Cart Classes Judging Specs: To show all around action at the walk, slow trot and working trot. Must show a smooth responsiveness and alertness. Horses to stand quietly and back readily. To be judged on manners, performance, presence and quality. In Ladies to Drive and Junior to Drive, emphasis is on manners and the horse s suitability to and for being driven by a lady or junior. 20 Tandem Team: Horses should at all times convey an image of alertness and style. The lead horse should keep the tugs from sagging, not be pulling the greater weight of the vehicle.
