I need any excuse I can find to get out of town and away from the daily work routine. I m ready, willing, and able. Enjoyin' More It s a great life, but we always seem to want more even though so many never work for it and can t figure out why they never succeed. Let me tell you about a Baton Rouge group that seems to have overcome all odds to become the best of its kind - and they are having lots of fun along the way. I speak of none other than the Krewe of Divas. They have met every obstacle thrown in their path to become a strong and powerful group. You can catch their shows monthly at George s, but you can see their members out and about enjoying themselves just about any day of the week. That s not all. They produce a bal masque each year that may not be the biggest and the best of all the rest, but they enjoy what they create and pass along the pleasure to those friends who attend. That is something to be extremely proud of. It s an accomplishment for which only hard work and strong support from friends can be seen as the reason for such success. With outstanding performances by Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and newcomers Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Hudson, this critically acclaimed adaption is destined to be a treasured addition to anyone s movie collection. Celebrate all things Dreamgirls on Thursday, April 26th as Oilcan Harry s joins with Paramount Pictures to launch the DVD release. It certainly will be A Night of Dreams. Oilcan Harry s is always on the cutting edge of all things gay and the new monthly party Joy will certainly be no exception. While we are on the subject of classics or at least old things, the Austin Babtist Women just returned to Austin after a whirlwind weekend entertaining all the handsome cowboys and sultry cowgirls gathered in Fort Lauderdale for the Florida Gay Rodeo Association s Sunshine Stampede. Fresh off the high heels of a successful Easter extravaganza that wowed the packed crowd, the Austin Babtist Women took their own special brand of hands on ministry to the wayward souls in that city by the sea. Be sure to check out the Austin photo section in this issue as Ambush was on hand to capture all the fun of GospelFest The Rodeo is on the way! The Texas Gay Rodeo Association is presenting the Capitol City Stampede September at the Travis County Expo Center. This year s rodeo will feature pool parties on Friday afternoon and Saturday evening, a hopping hospitality suite, one heck of a Howdy party Friday night and of course 2 days or rough and ready rodeo. Be sure to drop into the Rainbow Cattle Co. Saturday, April 28th as Candidate for Miss TGRA 2008 Trisha Davis hosts a super ho -down show with all proceeds going to the Austin rodeo. TGRA members will be on hand to answer all questions about the rodeo and how someone will have the chance to win $40,000. That isn t a typo $40,000. All you have to do is dress a goat, which believe me, is much harder than it sounds. Stop by the Rainbow Cattle Co. every Tuesday night for beginner Country and Western dance lessons. Dance instructor Bob makes it so easy to learn the latest steps that will be sure to impress all the rodeo folk. Dance class starts at 8pm and is a fun way to raise your heartbeat. And its good exercise too. Just another way that the Rainbow Cattle Co. remains Austin s honky-tonk headquarters. YeeHaw The Cockpit is keeping the 2nd Street district the place to grab a swanky cocktail and swaggering... well you get the picture. Tuesdays Latin Night is fast becoming the hot place to be for a sultry samba. Thursdays Take it or Leave it, hosted by the ever fabulous Thom, is just like the television show with a similar name. Contestants vie for the chance at the grand prize or they can walk away with a bright, shiny penny. The Cockpit is never a risk when it comes to having a good time. The last Sunday of every month, the Cockpit welcomes the men of the Heart of Texas Bears for their monthly Fur Frenzy Beer Bust. What a better way to spend a Sunday than rubbing shoulders with those HOT Bears. Be yourself, because as anyone who knows those friendly bears knows, leave the pretence at the door. Fun, fur and friendship, that s a perfect combination for a great time. Their support of community activities reaches beyond their personal pleasures in their club. It shows a determination that only they can really enjoy. It is a part of their very being that shows how this can be accomplished and accepted by others. I rather like their attitude. It s positive. It s straight - oops - gay forward. And it s sincere. They have the momentum, and they are taking it all the way. I congratulate them on these tireless efforts. Havin' More Well, I have to get back to the travelers now. Mark and Michael just returned from New York, barely getting out before the latest storm hit. Their only problem was a layover of a couple of hours as plane schedules were being changed in Atlanta. It was a week that saw them enjoy eight plays in six days, including Naked Boys Singing. I can hardly wait until this one gets to New Orleans. I ll have to get a front row seat for it. I haven t seen naked boys since that baseball play at the Marigny Theater, which I need to catch again when it is revived. (Or have I missed it?) Front row seating is a must for this one! The two M boys crowded a lot into their short time, and they stayed on Staten Island with a friend and former Baton Rougean. How they made so many plays in such a short time is a masterful accomplishment, but when it comes to doing things up right, these two know exactly what to do. Both really needed this diversion and had planned on it for quite some time. They were able to do this because they both work hard, put forth all their expertise in their jobs, and reap the benefits of what comes with accomplishing perfection. I use perfection here because that is what they do. Anything less is not acceptable. Teachers always try for that, and a horticulture specialist sees things the same way. I m happy they had such a great time. Michael, of the George s variety, has a buyer for the house he fixed up, and now he is already looking for another investment to oversee. Real estate is one way to do it. In fact, it is a great way to do it. Riding horses up in Montana gave him plenty of time to think up ways to accomplish great things and to better himself along the way. Like so many others, his college degree isn t in real estate, but he has found a way without that degree. It s called hard work and determination. I bet you knew I was going to say that, didn t you?
