1 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION 2017 Junior Fair Horse Show Entries Must Be Completed On-line By July 10, 2017 at noon Dressage Entries Due July 1, Read through this entire packet, then Go on-line to ohiostatefair.com 2. Hover your mouse over competitions at the top of the page. 3. Move mouse down to hover over agriculture & livestock 4. Move mouse over and click on livestock. 5. Scroll down to Horse Show, then Junior Division. 6. Click on Enter Online (available online beginning July 1 st ) to make your entries. Select the classes you qualified in and plan to compete in from attached schedule of classes. Each youth is responsible for entering their classes and paying their $40 stall fee online. This is the same online entry system that was used last year and is the same for the Junior Livestock Show. Private tack stalls cannot be purchased online but will still be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for $40 per stall. 7. ****IMPORTANT***** - Wayne Horse Youth - After you make your online entry - , Fax, or Drop-off a copy of the confirmation message you receive from the online entry system to 4-H Educator Doug Foxx at the Wayne Extension Office. Doug s address is: foxx.2@osu.edu. Sending a copy of the exact classes you entered will allow us to verify your PAS qualifying scores, which we must do in order for the State Fair to accept your class entries. Please submit this information to Doug no later than noon on July 10, If you have gone to an out of county PAS Show to qualify, make sure you have returned the signed copy of your out of county form to your county Extension Office. 2 TO: FROM: Junior Fair Horse Show Exhibitors Virgil Strickler, General Manager Thank you for your entry into the 2017 Ohio State Fair, July 23 July 28. Entry Deadline July 10 NEW - Late Entry Deadline - July 12 by 12:00 Noon; $100 Late Entry Fee must accompany the entry, or it will not be processed. All youth age 19 and under, participating in any 4-H equestrian activity, are required to wear properly fitted protective headgear which meets or exceeds current ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards with the chin harness securely fastened at all times while riding or driving an equine. It is the responsibility of the rider, or the parent or the guardian of the youth participant, to make sure that the headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards for protective headgear intended for equestrian use, and is properly fitted and in good condition. The Ohio 4-H Horse Program, show committees, officials, Extension personnel, and volunteer leaders are not responsible for checking headgear worn for such compliance. The Ohio 4-H Horse Program, show committees, officials, extension personnel, and volunteer leaders make no representation or warranty, expressed or implied, about any protective headgear, and cautions riders that death or serious injury may result despite wearing such headgear, as no helmet can protect against all foreseeable injuries in equestrian activities. The Ohio 4-H Horse Program, show committees, officials, extension personnel, and volunteer leaders may, at his/her discretion, check a participant s protective headgear for proper standards. If the youth is found to be wearing unapproved, defective, or improperly fitted headgear, he/she is not permitted to participate in riding or driving activities until proper headgear is acquired. Refer to Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows. ADMISSION If you arrive on, or after July 26, each person who enters the fairgrounds must have a ticket. If you do not have a ticket, then you will be charged admission at the gate. Junior exhibitors will receive an admission ticket through the Extension Office. Junior exhibitor tickets are color-coded and for junior exhibitor s use only. TACK STALLS You may purchase a tack stall for $40, at the Ohio State Fair Horse Show Office. There is a limited number of tack stalls, and they will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Stalls will be pre-assigned, and you must show you paid receipt to the show office upon check in. RE-ENTRY ADMISSION You must have a hand stamp if you plan to leave and re-enter the same day. RE-ENTRY ADMISSION (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) - You must have an admission ticket if you will be arriving between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. SKILLATHON Wednesday, July 26, 9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. for all youth. The Horse Skillathon will be held in the mezzanine of the Voinovich building. VEHICLE TRAVEL DIRECTIONS Exhibitors traveling south on I-71 will exit Hudson Street (exit 112) go across Hudson Street onto Silver Drive. At the first traffic light on Silver Drive, turn right and follow the signs to Gate 10 for entrance to the fairgrounds. Exhibitors traveling north on I-71 will exit Hudson Street (exit 112) and turn left onto Hudson Street and go to the first traffic light, which is Silver Drive, turn left onto Silver Drive, then turn right at the first light, follow the signs to Gate 10 for entrance to the fairgrounds. Follow traffic control directions to the horse barn, on arrival, please report to the Horse Show Stall Office for stall assignments. PARKING PASS If you arrive before July 26, you will be charged a $5 parking fee to park on top of the Gilligan Complex, if you arrive on or after July 26, you will have an option to purchase a 3-day parking pass for $30, at the Ohio State Fair Junior Horse Show Office. Only one parking pass per exhibitor. There are no single day parking passes once the fair starts on July 26. This parking pass will allow you to park on top of the Gilligan Complex. Only cars and pickups are allowed to park on top of the Gilligan Complex, no campers or propane. If the parking lot is full, you will be required to park in general parking. If you do not purchase a parking pass, you will be required to park in general parking for $5 per day. We have a shuttle service from the general parking area with a stop near the Horse Barn. There is a limited number of parking passes for purchase, once they are sold, there will be no additional parking passes available. EXITING THE GROUNDS WITH ANIMALS Each and every vehicle transporting livestock from the fairgrounds must have a signed release slip from your department director to present to the gate attendant in order to exit. This will be enforced. CAMPING - Reservations can be made online at at a rate of $50 per night. Reservations will be required for all campers. Lots with various amenities, including full hook-up or water and electric only, are available. Tents are not permitted. 3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 2017 OHIO STATE JUNIOR FAIR HORSE SHOW EXHIBITORS ( offices should duplicate and distribute this information to all youth qualifying by PAS for the Junior Fair Horse Show). Dear Junior Fair Exhibitor: Congratulations on qualifying to show at the Ohio State Fair Junior Horse Show! With this honor comes a lot of responsibility in the areas of cooperation, sportsmanship, and public image of 4-H and FFA. This is a large horse show, but a small part of the Ohio State Fair. There are many situations at the Ohio State Fair that we cannot control. We appreciate your flexibility and cooperation. REGISTRATION, PARKING, FEES, CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT 1. The show is Monday, July 24, (beginning at 12:00pm) through Friday, July 28. See the show schedule for the list of classes. Horses and exhibitors may be checked in starting on Sunday, July 23 from 1:00pm-6:00pm and then Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28 during show office hours of 7:00am 10:00pm. 2. Parking: If you arrive before July 26, you will be charged a parking fee of $5 to park on top of the Gilligan complex (no trailers). If you arrive on or after July 26, you will have an opportunity to purchase a 3-day parking pass for $30. Only one parking pass per exhibitor is allowed. If you do not purchase a parking pass, you will be required to park in general parking for $5 per day. There is a shuttle service from the general parking area with a stop near the horse barn. 3. Upon arrival at the state fairgrounds (Gate 10), stop at the gate to confirm your stall assignment and wait to be directed to an available unloading space. The show may involve up to 1200 exhibitors and horses. Limited unloading space makes registration a challenge. If traffic becomes congested or other emergencies occur, please follow directions as given by the State Highway Patrol. After quickly stabling your horse and unloading tack, take your trailer to the designated parking lot in the North Parking Lot. Then return and check-in at the Junior Fair Horse Show Office, at the end of the green wall that separates the horse and dairy sides of the barn (Gilligan Complex). 4. Horses will be assigned to stalls. Stall assignments will be available on at noon on July 17. Exhibitors may request to be stalled together by submitting a Group Stall Request Form by July 10 but only if the online entry receipt for each exhibitor is provided at the time of the request. Stall decorations may be used to promote your county. 5. Tack Stalls: Community tack stalls are provided in every aisle at no additional cost. Do not leave valuable show or personal items unattended. Do not lock the community tack stalls!! A limited number of private tack stalls will be available ($40/stall) based on the number of entries per county. Priority will be given for private tack stalls that serve a greater number of exhibitors. Private tack stall forms are available at 6. Each exhibitor must bring a signed medical form to check-in at the Junior Horse Show Office in order to be allowed to show. Youth 18 and over may sign for themselves, others must have a parent or guardian sign the medical form. 7. Class patterns will be posted in the show office and a pattern book will also be available for purchase. 8. Exhibitors will be given two exhibitor numbers. Safety pins to attach the exhibitor numbers are the exhibitor s responsibility. 9. Please be sure to keep your area clean. This includes your stall and aisle way. We are viewed by the public and impressions last a long time. 10. If you must wash your horse, please use only the wash racks designated for horses on the northwest side of the building. Do not wash horses in the dairy wash racks or in the aisle of the horse barn. 11. HORSES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ANY PART OF THE FAIRGROUNDS OTHER THAN THE IMMEDIATE SHOW AREAS. HORSES SHOULD USE DESIGNATED BRIDLE PATHS WHEN WALKING TO AND FROM THE SHOW RINGS. 12. Horses must be checked out by 9:00 a.m. of the day after their last class except on Friday. On Friday, all horses must be checked out by 9:00 p.m. or as soon as possible after the end of the show. Exceptions for any day but Friday are allowed if horses are being trailered with other horses still showing. These exceptions must be noted at check-in. A horse may leave and come back if needed without paying an additional stall fee, but show management must approve this. Stall releases for check-out are available at the Stall Office. All horses must check-out prior to leaving the fairgrounds. AWARDS Each class, except for dressage and championship classes, will receive the following premium money: 1st - $15.00; 2nd - $10.00; 3rd - $8.00. Each exhibitor will receive a participation ribbon and all classes will receive ten placing ribbons. MEASURING: All animals showing in Gymkhana Classes, as well as all ponies and small equine will be measured, even if they have a permanent measurement card. Animals may show in a class for animals larger than they are, but never in classes smaller than they are. Measuring will be done in an area adjacent to the registration office. Measured animals must show (barefoot or shod) as measured. BIT INSPECTION: All exhibitors, regardless of discipline, must present their bridle for bit inspection upon check-in and registration. Bit inspection will be done in an area adjacent to the registration office. Upon approval, the bit will be tagged for identification purposes for the duration of the show. If a bit has not been inspected, approved and tagged, the exhibitor will not be allowed to show. SHOW SCHEDULES AND RULES The show schedule and rules can be found in the 2017 Ohio State Fair Livestock Book and online at The Uniform Rules (10/14 Revision) for 4-H horse shows will be the guide that the Steward uses. Exhibitors should read and be familiar with this publication. SHOW CLASSES 1. Exhibitors may enter a TOTAL of four (4) classes. This includes Ground Roping. 2. Exhibitors are responsible for entering your classes and paying your $40 stall fee online at by noon on JULY 10. LATE ENTRIES, WITH A $100 LATE FEE, WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL NOON ON JULY 12. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE LATE ENTRY DEADLINE. Ohio 4-H Dressage Show entries are due July 1 st and must be sent directly to the State 4-H Horse Office, 2029 Fyffe Ct., Columbus, OH The 4-H Extension Professional MUST submit all of your county s exhibitor information by to Barb Prince on an Excel spreadsheet provided to each county to verify PAS qualifying scores and eligibility. 3. Class changes at State Fair will be allowed ONLY in the event of an incorrect age of youth or incorrect size of animal. 4. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to be to their class on time. You will have to estimate what time each class will start. No class will be delayed for late exhibitors. The number of classes before your class and the size of the classes are factors that will determine the time of your class. If you miss any of the four classes you qualified in to show at State Fair, you cannot change to other classes.

5 Arrival Checklist for the 2017 Ohio State Fair Junior Horse Show ARRIVAL TIMES/SHOW OFFICE HOURS Sunday, July 23 between 1:00-6:00pm Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28 between 7:00am-10:00pm Arrive at Gate 10; confirm stall assignment and wait to be directed to an available unloading space behind or in front of the Gilligan Complex by the gate attendant or State Highway Patrol. Quickly unload equipment and prepare stall for your horse. Unload horse and settle into stall. Move trailer to designated trailer parking lot in North Parking Lot. Remember that others are waiting with their trailers to unload their horses, too! Return to the Gilligan Complex to check-in. PARKING NOTE: Sunday, July 23 through Monday, July 25 - you will be charged a daily fee of $5.00 to park on top of the Gilligan Complex (no trailers allowed). Wednesday, July 26 through Friday, July 28 you will have an opportunity to purchase a 3-day parking pass for $ Only one parking pass per exhibitor is allowed. Single day parking passes are not available. If you do not purchase a 3- day parking pass, you will be required to park in general parking for $5.00 per day. There is a shuttle service from the general parking area with a stop near the Gilligan Complex. If you are showing a small equine or pony, regardless of the class(es) entered, or a gymkhana horse or pony, you must bring your horse to be measured in the designated area next to the Junior Horse Show office located at the end of the green wall in the middle of Gilligan Complex. Check-in at the Junior Horse Show office. You will need to bring your signed medical release form and measurement card (only if showing a small equine, pony or Gymkhana horse/pony. At check-in, you will confirm the classes in which you are entered and receive your participation ribbon and exhibitor numbers. Bring your bridles and misc. tack (i.e. tie downs, martingales, cavessons) to the designated bit inspection area next to the Junior Horse Show office for inspection and tagging. If a bit has not been inspected, approved and tagged, the exhibitor will not be allowed to show. Remember to have fun and enjoy the Ohio State Fair Junior Horse Show with family and friends!

Lacking information can delay treatment at a medical facility for your young adult. This information will be kept in the Horse Show office. Horse Show personnel will rely on this form for medical information. I give consent for any show staff to act in good faith and without willful misconduct as stated by the GOOD SAMARITAN LAW. All minor illnesses and injuries will be taken care of at the FIRST-AID CENTER. Medical emergencies will be taken to a more advanced medical facility. The Ohio State Fair is unable to pay for visits to the emergency room, doctors offices, or for prescriptions. In the event that verbal consent cannot be made by phone from the parent/guardian or either emergency numbers, I give written consent to the attending physician to hospitalize, secure proper treatment and to order injection, anesthesia, or surgery for the participant named above.
