1 Department G Animal Science Horse General Information: The show will be conducted according to the Nebraska 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide (4-H 373). Horse Affidavits are due to either Extension office by May 11. Sarpy County Fair Entries are due to either Extension office by July 16. Stalling during the fair is optional. Requests are also due by July 16 but stalling may be prorated to clubs if more stalls are requested than available. Horses must be kept from Wednesday August 1, 6 p.m. until Sunday August 5, at 6:30 a.m. or exhibitors and clubs can rotate their horses during that period. Horses can be out of stalls for exercise from 8-10 a.m. or an alternate time for Parade of Champions on Friday evening and the Saturday morning parade. Stalls must be stripped of bedding by 7 p.m., Monday, August 6. Horse check-in will begin at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28 and 4:30 p.m. for speed classes. Shows will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and 5:00 p.m. for speed classes. Show order on Saturday will be Halter, Showmanship, English Pleasure, English Equitation, Hunter Hack, Pony Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, 2 and 3 yr. old Pleasure, and Reining. Trail will be held during the Pleasure classes at another location. The Saturday evening show order will be Pole Bending, Barrel Racing, Flag Race, Keyhole Race, and Stationary Roping. Hippology (Skillathon) and Demonstration Contest will be held Saturday afternoon July 28. Exhibitors must have passed Level I to compete in riding classes. Age Divisions: Senior - 4- H age years old. Intermediate - 4-H age years old. Junior - 4-H age 8-11 years old. Clover Kids are not allowed to show horses. Special needs exhibits are considered youth ages 8-21 years old on January 1 that are mentally and/or physically challenged. Exhibitor cannot enter a walk-trot and any other riding class. If an exhibitor enters a Walk Trot class, they can only enter Walk-Trot, Showmanship and halter classes. An All-Around High Point Exhibitor Award will be given. To be eligible exhibitor must show in 6 classes (Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, English Equitation, Reining, Barrels, and Poles). Exhibitor must register at check in on the day of show. There is no limit on the number of classes an exhibitor or horse can enter except that a horse can only enter a class once. It can be entered in different age groups (Example: The same horse can enter both junior and senior barrel racing but can only be in junior barrel racing once.)
2 The hippology contest will be held Saturday, July 28, at noon in the 4-H Building. There will be first year, junior, senior, masters and adult with a written examination and identification stations. Exhibitor must receive a purple ribbon to receive a plaque.
