2 Entry and Form Information Eligibility This show is open to NH 4-H members years old on January 1 who have qualified in their county as a delegate or alternate. All must enter by deadline; delegates must include fees, and alternates will pay upon arrival at show if they participate. Alternates may be used as replacements as long as they are on the grounds Friday evening for horse judging and the written quiz with other exhibitors and their horse must be on the grounds prior to their scheduled first class. No post entries will be permitted. Exhibitor must show the same horse and show in the same discipline as in the Qualifying Show. In the event of an illness or injury to the horse, with documentation from a veterinarian, a different project horse may be substituted as prescribed in the NH 4-H Replacement Animal Policy. Horse sharing will be allowed at the 2018 State 4-H Horse Show. If both members are showing in the same division, there may be limitations to the number of choice classes and/or one member may need to show in a different division (but will be judged under the rules of their chosen division). Both sharing members must qualify via the county process and the shared horse must be on the both member s Intent to Show on or before May 1, There is no entry fee or stabling discount for members sharing a horse. How to Enter Each exhibitor, alternate, and stable manager must complete entry forms linked below. Entries are due in to the State 4-H Office by June 30, 2018 or immediately after County Show. Please check with your county about how they want you to submit your entries and payment. All checks need to be made payable to UNH Cooperative Extension; most counties collect funds and pay with one county check. An exhibitor must have an Intent to Show Form (or online version) completed by May 1 for the horse entered; ESE rules require Intent to Show to be completed by April 1 for ESE eligibility. 4-H State Show participants with disabilities will be accommodated as appropriate. Participants requiring accommodations must indicate so on their entry form. Note: Walk Trot riders and certain other modifications may not be eligible for Eastern States Exposition. Please notify Mary Davis, NH 4-H Animal and Agricultural Science Program Coordinator with the specifics of any accommodations requested no later than June 30 at Mary.Davis@unh.edu or (603) Entry Fee An entry fee of $85.00 for each rider and $10.00 for each stable manager is necessary to help cover rental of the grounds, stalls and other costs. Entry fees are due with entries. Make check or money order payable as directed by your county to the county or UNH Cooperative Extension. No refunds will be granted unless Mary Davis is notified in writing via at Mary.Davis@unn.edu at least 48 hours before opening of the show that the member will not participate. Cancellation Exhibitors unable to attend the New Hampshire 4-H State Horse Show for any reason must contact their county office immediately to allow for timely notification of alternates. If still tied Scores of answers to questions in Judging Exhibitor Information Exhibitor Requirements All exhibitors must participate in the following: 4-H General Knowledge Quiz (100 points)(see the NH 4-H Horse Project Manual and for study materials) 4-H Horse Judging (100 points) 4-H Fitting and Showing (100 points) 4-H Equitation (100 points) o Hunt or Saddle Seat Division: Hunt or Saddle Seat Equitation o Western/Stock Seat Division: Western Equitation o Novice or Open Walk Trot Divisions: Novice or Open Walk Trot Equitation o Gymkhana Division: Senior/Junior Horsemanship o Driving Division: Reinsmanship o In Hand Suitability (will be split by height if enough entries) Classes: 3 Choice Classes in your division (see class list and entry form) (50 points each) Note: modified classes for those requiring accommodations due to disability will be added as necessary. Horse Show Rules The New England 4-H Horse Show Rules and Guidelines and the New Hampshire Supplement to the New England 4-H Horse Show Rules and Guidelines for specific rules on classes, equipment, etc. New England 4-H Horse Show Rules and Guidelines NH Supplement to the New England 4-H Horse Show Rules Assistance Horse may be owned or managed (leased) by exhibitor and exhibitor is solely responsible for the horse at this event. Members are expected to care for their animals by themselves or with the help of other competing members. Adults may help load and unload, and help members on arrival 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Tack and feed rooms and decorations may be set up with assistance from adults prior to the start of the show. No adult is allowed to assist with the preparation of any horse. With the exception of disability accommodations, members receiving outside assistance (from an adult or a non-participating minor) in caring for an animal or preparing for a class will be disqualified after one warning from the superintendent. Stable managers may assist a rider by holding their horse while the rider does the work. Exhibitors may assist each other in preparation. County Stable Managers/Show Assistant Page 3 of 18

4 Each county may bring up to ten non-competing 4-H members to serve as County Stable Managers; counties may bring one additional stable manager per 3 competitors over 30. Stable managers & show assistants must be current 4-H members enrolled in the horse program. They may assist with all duties except riding, exercising, or preparation for a class. Stable Managers must complete an entry form and send it to their county/or the State 4-H Office. All stable managers must enter Quiz and Judging. Stable managers must be on the grounds for the duration of the event. Stable Managers must pay a $10.00 entry fee. Stable managers wishing to participate in Fitting and Showmanship with a borrowed horse should indicate on their entry Additional youth may be selected to serve as a show office assistant to perform duties related to show management. Interested youth may contact Mary Davis (Mary.Davis@unh.edu). Show assistants must complete an entry form, but do not pay an entry fee; they must be chaperoned by their county chaperone at night, and are expected to participate in Horse Judging and the Quiz. They may participate in F & S with a borrowed horse. Supervision Each county will appoint one screened 4-H leader to serve as the official county head chaperone to coordinate and see that adequate supervision is available at all times for their entire group. Chaperones are responsible for assigning stalls and overseeing sleeping arrangements. Each county may make their own sleeping arrangements and must provide adequate chaperones. The chaperones must sleep in the designated area with their delegates. Counties as a whole must determine whether to stay in a camping area or dormitory. Counties must provide the show management with a list of those in campers and their chaperones, and those in the dorm and their chaperones. All head chaperones are expected to attend a phone conference with show officials prior to the show (Thursday July 5, 7 PM). Counties without chaperones must work make arrangements with another county to take responsibility for their delegate(s). County chaperones will also be responsible for recruiting volunteers (youth/adults) from their county who will assist with tasks as requested by the show committee such as gate keeper, ring clean up and watering and practice ring monitor. Counties are to complete the County Chaperone Information sheet available from their County Extension Staff and send by entry deadline. Conduct All youth and adult attendees agree to abide by the New Hampshire 4-H Code of Conduct. General Policies Safety The use of Basic Safety Procedures is mandatory for all. The following will apply: No smoking in barns or public areas. Smoking only in designated areas away from youth. Fire lanes will remain clear at all times. All county delegations must have fire buckets or fire extinguisher readily available. Equipment will be stored properly to reduce tripping and other hazards. Horses must not be left unattended with stall doors open. All 4-H youth exhibitors are required to wear a properly fitted ASTM/SEI approved equestrian helmet with secured chin harness properly fastened at all times when mounted on an equine or in a vehicle being pulled by one or more equines. 5 Stabling, Tying, and Showing from Trailers Horses must be stabled in barns for the night. Washing may be done outside with horse held. No horses will be shown from trailers. Arrival/Departure Gates will open no earlier than 9:00 a.m. Friday; horses and campers may arrive after that time. Check with barn superintendent. All horses and exhibitors must be on the grounds by 3:00 p.m. and signed in at the secretary's stand by 4:00 p.m. Leaving Grounds Policy Exhibitors may not leave the grounds during the show unless permission is granted by the Show Superintendent. Permission will be granted only if the departure is necessary as a result of a medical or other emergency involving the exhibitor or horse. Exhibitors leaving without permission or leaving before release form is signed by the show secretary will forfeit his/her awards including the right to go to Eastern States Exposition. HORSES may be released after their last class on Sunday. EXHIBITORS will not be released until the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony on Sunday. Exhibitors will not be excused until they have obtained a release from the county chaperone and their stalls and camping/sleeping areas are clean and all payments are settled. All animals must be off the grounds Sunday afternoon. Those staying in the dorm must check into the dorm on Friday and MUST BE CHECKED OUT OF THE DORM BY NOON SUNDAY. If a dorm resident leaves the area unclean (as determined by the head chaperone at 12 noon) that individual and all others from their county listed as staying in the dorm will lose 10 points off their show score. Counties will be signed out by the superintendent after inspection of their barn and camping area is complete. NOTE: All stalls must be stripped prior to leaving the grounds or the entire county will be subject to a fee of $25 per stall for cleaning. Health Requirements for Horses All horses must have a current vaccination for rabies given at least 30 days and not more than 1 year prior to the show. Horses stabled outside New Hampshire must conform to entry and health regulations as required by current New Hampshire law. For out of state horses, a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection health certificate signed by an accredited veterinarian and a valid negative AGID (Coggins) test conducted within 6 months prior to entry must be presented. Guidelines for Volunteers, Guests, and Spectators Volunteers, guests, and spectators must follow the conduct guidelines outlined for youth participants. 4-H has a policy of no alcoholic beverages. Adult smoking permitted in personal camping areas only. There will be absolutely no smoking in the barns, dormitories, public spaces or ring area. Anyone not following these policies will be asked to leave the fairgrounds. EMT EMT will be on the grounds during riding and driving classes. Dress Code A minimum of shirt that covers the torso, fingertip length shorts, and shoes that completely enclose the foot must be worn at all times by everyone associated with the show activities on the grounds. Tank tops must not be revealing or have less than a one-inch strap. No bathing suits. Sandals are allowed only in non-horse areas (campsites, show office, restrooms) Page 5 of 18

6 Facility Information Shavings There are also several feed stores in the area with feed and shavings available for purchase. You will be required to strip your stall or pay a stall stripping fee of $25 per stall for the entire delegation (including tack and feed stalls). Food Food will not be sold on the grounds (exception of ice cream social fundraiser for NH Horse Teams on Saturday evening). Counties should plan their meals accordingly and for those visiting there are local restaurants that deliver. Sleeping Arrangements Lodging, Sleeping and Camping Information Exhibitors may sleep in the dorms if they wish and if designated by county. Sleeping areas are separated by gender. Each county must provide chaperones in each sleeping area or work out an agreement with another county for chaperoning. Dorm floors may be dirt or asphalt so exhibitors will need to provide appropriate cots or sleeping pads and other necessary bedding. Counties will provide signs that will designate county sleeping areas. Counties may also camp together on the grounds as a county unit. All 4-H members will be chaperoned by their county and quiet hours will be enforced. Evening Curfew 10:00 p.m. - All exhibitors in dorms/campers/tents 10:30 p.m. - Lights out and electronics off; adults please respect quiet hours. Camping Camping facilities are available for parents and other adults involved with the show. Due to safety and fire regulations, camping is permitted in designated areas only. Costs Campers or tents using electrical or water hook-up (per night): $30 ($60 total for the weekend)* Tents with no hook-up (per night): $15* ($30 for the weekend); if tents use electric hook-up, or plug in at all, the camper fee is charged. *Please note: ALL CAMPERS ON THE GROUNDS MUST PAY THIS FEE, REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE HOOKING UP OR USING ELECTRICITY. If you are on the grounds with a camper or tent, you must pay this fee. Dormitory: FREE; county delegation makes a decision as to whether to use the dorm. 14 NH State 4-H Horse Show Walk-Trot State Show Readiness Form The NH State 4-H Horse Show requires prospective entries for Novice and Open Walk-Trot divisions to provide documentation that they and their mount are prepared for this show experience. 17 NEW ENGLAND 4-H HORSE EDUCATION POSTER CONTEST Situation: 4-H members and their horses are on display for the public at The New England 4-H Horse Program Activity at Eastern States Exposition. Most of those who go to the horse barn and watch the 4-H horse show is not knowledgeable about horses or safety around them. They often put themselves, their children, 4-H members, and horses in potentially dangerous situations because of lack of knowledge. Purpose: To educate the public about safety around horses and general horse knowledge. How: Who: When: What: A Horse Safety/General Horse Knowledge Poster Display in the horse barn. Any 4-H member including Cloverbud is invited to submit a poster for the contest. Posters must be at The Big E by 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and are displayed until Saturday evening. The poster may illustrate any aspect of Equine education or general horse safety. It can be a drawing, a cartoon, a collage, printed instructions, etc. The poster must be a minimum of 11" x 14" in size, or a maximum of 22" x 28" and should be readable at 30'. THIS POSTER SHOULD BE YOUR OWN WORK. Check with your 4-H extension office for tips on making posters and further information. Each division judged separately. Divisions include: 5-8yrs (Novice), 9-13yrs (Juniors) and 14 to 19yrs (Seniors) All posters will be displayed in the 4-H Horse barn during the 4-H Horse Activity at The Big E. Each state is responsible for delivering ribbons awarded to those not attending. If you want your poster back and are not participating, please make arrangements for its return before sending your poster down to Eastern States Exposition.
