2 This is a community art to be used for promotion in the Pikes Peak region and the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is a charity event which donates its proceeds to local military families. Your efforts in this will bring attention to the rodeo in hopes of selling more tickets and in turn giving a larger donation to those families that need help. In short, this should be fun and functional. This is sponsored by the Western Heritage Spirit Committee, Companion Habitats, and Kevin Kavaney of Northwestern Mutual Financial. The mission of the Western Heritage Spirit Committee is to provide awareness and promotion and culture in the Pikes Peak Region through an effort of collaboration and support. The boards will be delivered to participants the week of March 5, 2012 by a Spirit committee member who will be available for questions. Project boards must be completed by the week of April 23, Call your Spirit Committee contact to schedule a pick up time between April 19 th 23rd. If you would like rather drop off your at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, they will be accepting deliveries from April 20-23, 2012 between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 PM. Projects will be judged April 27, 2012 at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, where they will be on display for several weeks. The s will then be moved to key locations throughout the Colorado Springs area to promote western in the Pikes Peak region and for the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. Designs must be overseen and approved by the art director of the school or an administrator. Schools are encouraged to visit local businesses to gain knowledge of our Western Heritage; including, but not limited to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. 2

3 RULES 1. Projects must be completed on time. 2. Projects must be weather proof. They will be displayed outside for the summer. The board must be able to be easily moved by two people. 3. The entire piece, except the underside of the base must be painted. This includes the top of the base and the back of all the surfaces. It is recommended that you use a primer coat and a quality exterior paint for the base coat. 4. There are three areas where you will not want to embellish but still paint, as they will hold a poster, a sponsor list and an area for your school s name. See diagram. 5. The barrel racer silhouette is the only place you are required to embellish your boards beyond the required base coat of paint. However, you may choose to do more. Remember do not spend time embellishing the three areas that will hold a poster, a sponsor list and an area for your school s name. 6. Mixed media is OK; just remember it needs to be water/weather proof and very well attached. 7. Your s will be primarily judged on their expression in the Pikes Peak region. They will also be judged on originality, use of medias and the quality of. Please refer to the rubric if you have any questions on how the will be judged. 8.
