3 Campbell River Salmon Festival Society Providing a Sense of Community Spirit Date Name Address City Code Dear Contact On August 10, 11 & 12 the Campbell River Salmon Festival Society will present its 51 th Annual Salmon Festival (SalmonFest 2018) and we are seeking financial and/ot goods & services in support of our new event The Campbell River Highland Gathering This event will feature Pipe Band and Celtic Band Competitions, Dancing, Solo Piping and Drumming, Highland Heavy Events, plus a number of booths selling or displaying Scottish items. Competitors and friends will join for this friendly annual event that will also feature tasting of some of our local barley and malt beverages. Everyone will have to attend the stunning massed bands parade where they will perform some of the best known highland piping tunes. As a new feature the Gathering on Saturday afternoon and evening will feature the Celts Have Talent stage event where Pipebands and Celtic Groups will perform a variety of medleys for a chance to win some pretty big prizes. Entrants will be judged by popularity! Along with the Highland Gathering the SalmonFest 2018 will consist of a locally developed World Class Logging Sports that is presently ranked in the top 5 in North Americal, Children s & Teen s Activities that are FREE to everyone 18 and under, Entertainment and various booths and displays. CANADA Community Booths Highland Gathering On the second weekend in August, the Campbell River Salmon Festival Society will present its 51 st Annual SalmonFest, which will include a World Class Logger Sports (our Heritage Sport), a Highland Gathering (piping, dance & games) plus other events for families to enjoy New for 2018 on Saturday and Sunday will be a Highland Gathering event, which will feature pipe band competitions, solo piping and drumming, highland dancing and highland heavy games, featuring the caber tossing event and a tug of war. If you enjoy the excitement of Logger Sports Competitions, then our show offers 2 1/2 action filled days of World and Canadian Sanctioned Competitions. Friday will feature the Youth (8-11), Teens (12-15) and Best In The Bush competitions. Saturday will feature the Novice and Intermediate class competitions and Sunday will feature the Ladies and Men Pros events. This event attracts local, national and international competitors who will be vying for part of the $41, prize package. In keeping with our name, Salmon Festival, we will be offering barbequed salmon meals to tantalize your taste buds and for those who enjoy the Performing Arts, there will be an outdoor stage featuring local celtic entertainers. For the children (18 & under) we provide FREE rides, climbing wall, entertainment, face painting, etc. These free events are made possible by the support of the Provincial Gaming Branch, City of Campbell River, Thrifty Foods and other local businesses, plus gate admissions. While taking in the logger sports and other events, go for a stroll through the Community Corner and Trade Show areas. Here local community groups and our sponsors have an opportunity to display or provide information about their goods and services at their booths. With all the things to see and do you are sure to get hungry or thirsty and to tickle your palate and quench that thirst, we have a variety of food and beverage booths. They will be offering everything from a quick snack to a full meal, including dessert. So book that date, August 10 to 12, for SalmonFest 2018 and with the help of our many sponsors, Community Groups and volunteers, we will provide this and more, for a small daily Park admission fee of $2.00 on Friday and $5.00 on Saturday and Sunday. Children 2 and under are free.

Local businessman and entrepreneur Brian Shaw, who was once Pipe Major for the local Royal Canadian Legion Band, is now in process of organizing a traditional Scottish Highland Gathering to take place in another part of Nunns Creek Park on the Saturday of the Logger Sports August 11th. All aspects of traditional Highland Gatherings will be present ;Pipe Band and Celtic Band Competitions, Dancing, Solo Piping and Drumming, Highland Heavy Events, and a number of booths selling or displaying all things Scottish. Pipebands from across BC Alberta, and the northerm US will join for this friendly annual event that will also feature tasting of some of our local barley and malt beverages. The Gathering could easily see as many as 25 groups of competitors, a total between 750 and 1,000 people, attending either as contestants and participants, or supporters for their particular local band. One spectacular event, the gathering of the massed bands parade, will see all the event s pipers and drummers perform some of the best known highland piping music. As a new feature, the Gathering, on Saturday afternoon and evening, will feature the Celts Have Talent stage event where Pipebands and Celtic Groups will perform a variety of medleys for a chance to win some excellent prizes. We reckon that would be no bad thing for Campbell River s tourism and hospitality trade.

7 SALMON FESTIVAL EVENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM We have implemented the following event sponsorship program to provide better recognition for our sponsors: All Logging Sports, Children s Activities and Entertainment Sponsors will be recognized at their sponsored event. All sponsors will also be awarded Logger Sports events to maximize their recognition as Logger Sports is our major event, draws the most spectators and receives the most TV coverage. As the level of sponsorship increases, the number of sponsored events increases and your name is read off more times, over more days and will appear more times on the daily event and web page schedule. 8 CAMPBELL RIVER SALMON FESTIVAL S OBJECTIVES AND VALUES The Campbell River Salmon Festival s main objectives are: To organize and present the Annual Salmon Festival. To work with the City and other groups to develop Nunns Creek Park To provide support to other Community Groups through free use of our assets SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY AND BUSINESSES It is the policy of the Salmon Festival to purchase goods or services locally and from a sponsor. In 2017 we purchased $ 53, worth of goods and services from local businesses. Salmon Festival hires or makes donation to community groups or individuals to assist us in delivering our programs and provide the community groups with much needed funds to carry out their charitable programs. In 2017 we paid or donated $20, to the following for those services. Search & Rescue Mountainaire Avian Rescue Local Entertainers Campbellton Neighborhood Association St. John Ambulance Competition Judges Face painters Kids Rides Local Workers The Festival not only provides financial assistance to community groups, but it is our policy to provide our assets free and assist with the delivery and set-up of those items. Last year we assisted 50 community organizations with 40 events in Campbell River, Black Creek and Comox Valley which saved them rental, building or storage costs. This not only saved the groups $34,751.00, but also saved the businesses, as groups did not have to seek donations to rent the items. GROUPS ASSISTED IN 2017 Atmosphere Festival C.R. With what we spend locally, plus what we estimate is spent at restaurants with our Logger Sports ending at supper time, our economic impact is $721, This does not take into consideration the value of TV coverage on North American television networks, IN ORDER TO PRESENT OUR FESTIVAL OBJECTIVES THE SALMON FESTIVAL RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING SUPPORT IN 2017 Our annual expenditures for 2017 were $202, and came from the following: 53.7% or $108, from donated cash, goods and services. 12.3% or $25, Grant-In-Aid from the City of Campbell River 21.4% or $43, from a Community Gaming Grant The remaining 12.5% or $ 25, from gate admission fees, booth fees, registration, bars, etc. Not included is $39,820 value of volunteer labour and $30,751value of assistance to Community groups TO PRESENT OUR PROPOSED 2018 SALMON FESTIVAL OUR BUDGET IS Our budgeted annual expenditures for 2018 are $233,925 and will come from the following: 54.3% or $127, from donated cash, goods and services. 8.5% or $20, Grant-In-Aid from the City of Campbell River 19.2% or $45, from a Community Gaming Grant The remaining 18.0% or $ 41, from gate admission fees, booth fees, registration, bars, etc. Not included is $40,0000 value of volunteer labour and $30,000 value of assistance to other groups. With our new and expanded events we expect our economic impact to approach $1,000.00
