2 about the festival Established in 1992, the Great Falls Balloon Festival is a weekend-long celebration featuring hot air balloons, food and entertainment. The mission of the festival is to provide fundraising opportunities for local non-profits, while celebrating our community and promoting the Lewiston/Auburn area as a visitor destination. With the help of local businesses, an army of volunteers and the cooperative efforts of the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, the festival has gained a national reputation as a first-class event and is a destination for many visitors to the state of Maine. Based at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston with additional entertainment and food offerings at Festival Plaza in Auburn the festival attracts approximately 100,000 visitors throughout the weekend. The Androscoggin River and rocky Great Falls provide a picturesque setting for this unique event. With free admission, hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by participating non-profits and economic impact in excess of $2,000,000, it s easy to see why our community eagerly anticipates the festival each year. Balloon launches are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting. When the balloons aren t overhead, there is still plenty to do: dozens of food booths (staffed by volunteers from local non-profit groups), pancake breakfasts, craft and trade booths, a children s area and live entertainment at two venues. Carnival rides, a parade and various demonstrations and contests round out the weekend s events.

They are the foundation of the festival and their dedication is a tribute to the volunteer spirit that lives within our community. 5 economic impact Looking back on the 21 year history of the festival, it is estimated that visitors have spent almost $21 million in the Lewiston/Auburn community, in addition to the money spent at the festival. 65 % of spectators spent money in the Lewiston/Auburn area because of the festival 63 % of spectators were from outside L/A Lewiston/Auburn 37% Rest of Androscoggin County 25% Rest of Maine 26% $1 $20 50% $21 $50 37% 65 % of dollars spent in the community came from outside L/A Out-of-State 12% Attendance $51 $100 $0 8% 5% Average Amount Spent per Person This summary was compiled from surveys completed during the 2012 festival. Total amounts spent outside the festival are based on an estimated attendance of 100,000 people throughout the weekend.

6 pricing NORTH END $275 (reserved for crafters selling handcrafted, first-quality items) PRIME SPACES $475 (high foot traffic areas) ALL OTHER SPACES $375 A $50 discount is offered for the rental of two or more spaces. Space will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. A down payment of $100 will hold your space, with the balance due by August 1. No refunds will be issued after July 31. Cancellations received prior to July 31 will be charged a $50 handling fee. FOOD BOOTHS

7 general information Booth dimensions: standard spaces are 10 x 10 Hours of operation: Booths should be staffed at all times during these hours Friday 5 p.m. 10 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. 10 p.m. Sunday 11 a.m. 7 p.m. Set-up: Friday 8/15/ a.m. 4 p.m. Insurance: A certificate of insurance must be provided, naming Great Falls Balloon Festival as an additional insured during the dates of the festival. Sales Tax: All vendors must have a valid Maine Sales Tax Permit obtainable through the State of Maine, Bureau of Taxation, by calling (207) or online at It is the responsibility of the vendor to collect Maine sales tax. Your Maine Sales Tax ID number will be required before you will be able to set up your booth at the festival. Lighting/electrical: There is general lighting along the walkways, and light towers will be on site. Minimal electricity is available for each vendor, consisting of two outlets. You will be able to plug in two items.

8 rules & application Booth fee provides you with overnight security, advertising, limited electricity and one parking space at a nearby lot. Overnight accommodations are not available at the site. Vehicles will be allowed on festival grounds ONLY for loading/unloading. No table or chairs are provided for outside spaces. To apply: Download the Craft & Trade Application from our website: greatfallsballoonfestival.org (Under Get Involved, click Craft & Trade Vendors) Vendor must provide own tent/booth and tables with floor-length table coverings. No food or drinks that are to be consumed on the premises may be sold. No items using the Great Falls Balloon Festival name or logo may be sold without prior approval. Mail to: Troy Mills, P.O. We request that handouts be kept to a minimum in order to reduce the amount of trash. Handing out candy and balloons is prohibited. Supplies must be stored out of sight. Smoking, alcoholic beverages and drugs are prohibited. No pets allowed. Only vendors with goods or services to sell will be considered. Political, religious or social action groups will not be allowed. The festival committee reserves the right to approve or restrict any business from exhibiting and to remove anyone not complying with the rules, without issuing a refund.
