We are happy to have both the Ness family back again this year as well as Carlson Cattle Company joining us. Like many Gelbvieh breeders we purchased our first bulls and females from the Carlsons so it is an honour to have them as part of this sale. What a year 2013 was for the beef industry. We saw record high cull and calf prices as the demand for beef increases. It was great to see steer calves selling for over $1000 last fall and some top end bred females going for $2000. With barley prices so conservative the feedlots are going to make a big profit on those expensive calves. They are sure to be willing to pay big prices again next fall. It is more important than ever to be using the best genetics we can and keep a youthful herd sire battery. More than ever each extra pound we can raise and every cow that is in calf makes a bigger difference on our bottom line. On March 17th the bulls on offer have those genetics that will progress your operation. There are performance bulls to raise those scale busters in the fall, low birth weight bulls to make calving season stress free and of course all of them should produce those females that the Gelbvieh breed is known for. Back by popular demand there will be a select offering of females again this year. They meet the same high standards as the bulls. New this year the sale cattle will be Leptin tested. The Leptin gene causes cattle to produce leptin, which is associated with appetite. This increase in appetite in turn increases weight gain, carcass grade, milk production, fleshing ability and ultimately profit. Cattle can have no copies of the gene (CC or 0% positive), one copy (CT or 50% positive), or two copies (TT or 100% positive). With each additional copy of the gene the traits above will increase in comparison to animals that are genetically similar otherwise. Contact either myself, Lon or check out for more information. All cattle selling will be vet checked and the bulls will be semen tested. Sellers are willing to keep purchases until Apr.15 and deliver them within 200 miles free of charge. One of these is the dam of the 13A bull in this sale. Even with being flushed Wruffle has already reached Dam of Merit status. This is what we have come to expect from his amazing dam, another Marion female, that we have flushed in our ET program.
