1 Lang-ay Trail Run (April 9, 2017) We Run. We Care. We Help. We Save Lives. ABOUT THE RUN: The Lang-ay Trail Run, is for-a-cause, organized to help raise funds for Humanitarian activities of Philippine Red Cross Mountain Province Chapter. This is to enhance its capability in providing assistance to the community, primarily in establishing a stable, and self-sufficient blood bank. Furthermore, this run seeks to raise environmental awareness, sports tourism, and physical fitness through the sport of trail running. The Lang-ay Trail Run has three categories, a full-marathon, a half-marathon and a short distance run of 12kms. Each category will start at a different starting line, but will have a common finish line. It will be held along the localities of Tadian, Bauko and Sagada. The route will pass through primeval trail paths established by locals long before roads were built. These trail paths are usually used for the transport of farm produce, even until the present time. In the olden times, it is also the only way for children to reach the only schools available at the time, traveling on foot for about 5kms to 20kms everyday, traversing through forests, navigating rivers, and braving the elements. It was a tough arrangement, but education is paramount and nothing could have stopped them to earn an education. Thus, runners who will participate in this run will enjoy a picturesque route while at the same time extending help to the community. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: A. Online Registration 1. Go to: 2. The Marathon - 42kms Cut-off Time: 12 hours with multi-stage cutoffs to ensure safety of runners Requirements for Mandatory Gear:
3 (to be checked at random aid stations, any missing gear shall be a ground for disqualification and will not be allowed to continue) Whistle Hydration gear - at least 1000ml Headlamp that can last for at least 8 hours Windbreaker Recommended Additional Gear: Cap or visor Sunblock/sunscreen Basic First Aid Kit 42km Course Description: The route is designed for all class of trail runners, but with at least 12km trail or 21km road run experience. Runners should expect elevation gains, technical trails, and the usual ascents and descents. It is a user-friendly route, a perfect maiden trail marathon for the inexperienced. And an opportunity for a trail marathon P.R. record for the experienced. Runners should expect a taste of running through pine forests, mossy forests, exposed trails and roads, technical trails, passing by irrigation systems, villages. Runners are cautioned to be prepared, to respect the distance, the elements and the especially the mountain. Though rated by the organizers to be an easy to moderate route, all runners must always remember the adage, the last word always belongs to the mountain. The 42km category will start at the municipal hall of Tadian. From the starting line, runners shall descend the road and stairs leading to barangay Balbalaan, and shall proceed to barangay Kayan East. From Kayan East, runners will pass by the area where Bato-Bangkagan Healing Springs is located, run through the rice paddies, cross rivers, and will ascend the trail to barangay Tue. From Tue, runners will proceed to Barangay Cagubatan, traversing a series of dried up rice paddies, a river bed, a small lake, until the road leading to Cagubatan. It is in Cagubatan where the infamous enchanted eels are located. Cagubatan is located right at the foot of Mt. Mogao, a prominent mountain that can be viewed from the neighboring barangays, it is also known to some as Mt. Clitoris. From Cagubatan, the runners will proceed to Barangay Bana-ao, and then to Barangay Pandayan, passing through Gawaan Lake. And from Pandayan, runners will pass by the foot of Mt. Mogao and will descend to Aayag, the area where the river is located, passing through rice fields. From Aayag, runners will asced to Barangay Mayag, and up until Barangay Abatan, Bauko. At this point, runners would have finished the first half of the marathon. The route for the next half of the race is similar with the route for the 21km category. 2. The Half-Marathon 21kms

At the same time, this is an opportunity for the experienced, to set a fleeting record time for a half marathon trail run. The course offers a friendly altitude gain and smooth terrain for an easy and enjoyable run. Runners should expect a taste of running through pine forests, mossy forests, exposed trails and roads, technical trails, passing by irrigation systems, villages. The 21km category will start at the Abatan Elementary School. 21km runners and as well as 42km runners will use the Old Spanish Trail from Barangay Abatan until Barangay Bagnen. It is important that runners must from this point be ready to traverse at least 12kms of trail, equipped with sufficient hydration and trail food, and healthy to proceed with the race. The Old Spanish Trail in between the two barangays is composed purely of trails passing through Malupa, Mt. Am-o, Maliboo, Kamalin, Bato, Mangasil, Mt. Kapuwaw, Cotcot Aso and eventually to Bagnen Proper. From Bagnen, runners will traverse the road going to Barangay Balintaugan. And from Balintaugan, runners will descend to Barangay Ankileng, Sagada. It is in Ankileng where the Pongas Falls is located. From Ankileng, runners will proceed to Barangay Suyo. Part of the route shall give the 21km and 42km runners the opportunity to experience spelunking in Balangagan Cave, runners will enter the secondary entrance of the cave and will reappear at the exit point behind the Montanna Inn. From Montana Inn, runners will ascend to Kaman-utek, Marlboro country and will descend to the main road until the finish line. 3. The Fun Run 12kms Cut-off Time: 6 hours

The route will pass through best expanse of trail perfect for a sunrise. We believe that even a person who has zero experience in running or hiking the trails will be able to finish this category, with a satisfied smile at the finish line, as if he/she just went out for a brief walk. The main features of the route are the Marlboro Country, Blue Soil/Kaman-utek, and the Balangagan Cave. Runners will have the opportunity to witness a stunning sunrise, a breath of fresh air along the pine riddled trail and a spelunking experience in the cave. 6 AID STATIONS: GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION: Aid Station Their will be food, water and sports drinks at each station BUT their will be aid stations that only serves water. So study the course map very well. Distance and directional marker Markers will be put along the trails and among critical junctions. Their will be marshals along the race route. But we encourage you to study the race map or print the provided map for navigation. Parking Parking will be available a few hundred meter from the start line and the finish line. This is a traverse race so if you intend to bring a car, be sure someone will drive it to the finish line. Medical Assistance Medical assistance will be available at designated stated stations. The medical officials has the right to stop a runner unfit to continue the race. If brought to the hospital for medical treatment, individual runner will be responsible to bring himself/herself to the finish line. DNF For runners who decided to not finish the race. He is responsible to bring himself/herself to the finish. Cut Offed Their will be staged cut off for the race. For those runners who have been cut offed, they will have to wait until the last who will be cut offed before they are brought to the finish line. Toilets Toilets will be available near the starting lines and finish. Signage will be provided during the event.
