1 Howdy Barn Burner 104 Athletes, Welcome to the Blue Print for Athletes Barn Burner 104! For those of you racing solo, good luck on hopefully snagging a spot for the legendary Leadville Trail 100. Relay team riders, saddle up and get ready to race against your closest peers and rivals. We look forward to hosting and cheering all of you on! For those of you who are new, be prepared for a great time! This is some killer mountain biking accompanied with beautiful pines and mountain air. When you arrive back at camp, there ll be plenty of brews for you to enjoy from Four Peaks Brewing Company. This year we will be camping in a new location but we hope to make it as phenomenal as every year! Make sure to read the new directions, this year s camp site is much closer to the main highway. For those of ya ll that did not partake in the pre-rides, this is approximately a 26 mile looped course with plenty o room for speed, some bumpy descents, and a few hills to keep you honest. The course is open to traffic, motorized buggies, deer, riders and other folk, so please be courteous, obey the law, and use your smarts. 2 NEW DIRECTIONS FOR 2016 From the South Take I-17 N into Flagstaff. Drive north through town until you reach US Hwy 180 (North Humphreys Street), and turn left, towards the Grand Canyon. Remain on US Hwy 180 until you reach Forest Service Road 193, just past mile marker 233. Turn left. Stay on Forest Service Road 193 until you reach Forest Service Road 9020A. A Leadville Race Series tent will be on the right. From the North Take Hwy 89 into Flagstaff. Follow signs for US Hwy 180 W (towards the Grand Canyon). Turn left off US Hwy 180 W onto Forest Service Road 193. Forest Service Road 193 is just past mile marker 233. Stay on Forest Service Road 193 until Forest Service Road 9020A. A Leadville Race Series tent will be on the right. **Drive and park within the designated areas only. Please DO NOT trespass prior to the race. If the event is in progress please make sure to stay to your left and share the road with participants. GPS: Google map Crowley Tank, Flagstaff, AZ. This will provide a bird s eye view of the venue. Sunday, September 11 th, :00 p.m. Please leave site no later than 2:00 p.m. Please tidy up and leave it cleaner than you found it! Stuff you need to know bout GENERAL INFO Parking is $10.00 for cars and $20.00 for RV s to be parked for the weekend (CASH ONLY) Asking for a donation of 2 cans of food for each person in the vehicle You MUST HAVE your ID with you to pick up your packet. You CANNOT pick up a packet for your friends, although this sure is nice, we need to see their pearly whites too! You MUST HAVE your race plate on your bicycle on the front of your bike. The race starts at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10th. Awards start at approximately 6:00 p.m. Awards are 3 deep per category/division Belt Buckles will be distributed immediately after you finish your race in the allotted time. Please continue into the beer garden to pick up your belt buckle (must meet cut off times). You MUST have your bib with you to receive your buckle. Solo Alley is for solos only please share the space. Results will be posted periodically throughout the day. These will be located near the beer tent. Dismount your steed before making a right into the bike area. (Mandatory) Mount your steed (or tag your partner) after you exit the bike area. SHERIFFS RULES Helmets must be worn on the bike and your chin strap must be buckled. Unsportsmanlike conduct is grounds for disqualification. Abandonment no garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course, site, or any roads. DNFs must be reported to timing (located near the finish). ABSOLUTELY NO RIDING IN THE DESIGNATED KENDRICK WILDERNESS! (see attached flyer) The area around FR767 and FR 760A is a Northern Goshawk nesting area. We are asking that you proceed through this area without stopping, and avoid making noise if possible. Practice Leave No Trace principals (see page 10). 4

9 QUALIFIER EXPLANATION Each Leadville Qualifying Series race provides qualifying slots to the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race, based on the total number of registered riders at each qualifier event. Half of the qualifying spots will be allocated based on the top age-group performances and half will be drawn among riders who have met a time standard specific to that race. In 2011, we implemented a corral system for starting positions at the Leadville Trail 100. Please review the chart below outlining corral numbers, bib, and bike plate colors. 10 Leave No Trace Principals Plan Ahead and Prepare Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Durable surfaces include established trails and campsites, rock, gravel, or dry grasses. Good campsites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Portable toilets will be place throughout the site and at one aid station. If necessary, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep at least 200 feet from water, camp, and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, but do not touch, cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the backcountry. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. 10
