Answer all constructed response items in the test booklet, using the answer spaces given within each item. 1. David uses cup of apple juice for every cup of cranberry juice to make a fruit drink. Write the number of cups of apple juice David uses for 1 cup of cranberry juice. 2. A company designed two rectangular maps of the same region. These maps are described below. Map 1: The dimensions are 8 inches by 10 inches. The scale is mile to 1 inch. Map 2: The dimensions are 4 inches by 5 inches. Which ratio represents the scale on Map 2? A. mile to inch B. mile to inch C. mile to 1 inch passes through the origin and the point (1, 12.5). Which statement must be true? A. The slope of the graph is 1. B. Helen earns $12.50 per hour. C. Helen works 12.5 hours per day. D. The y-intercept of the graph is Roberto is making cakes. The number of cups of flour he uses is proportional to the number of cakes he makes. Roberto uses 22 cups of flour to make 10 cakes. Which equation represents the relationship between f, the number of cups of flour Roberto uses, and c, the number of cakes he makes? A B C D D. mile to 1 inch 3. Helen made a graph that represents the amount of money she earns, y, for the numbers of hours she works, x. The graph is a straight line that 2 LAUSD Secondary Mathematics August 27, 2014

3 5. Select all the graphs that show a proportional relationship between x and y. Select True or False for each statement about the graph. True False Point A represents the total cost of electricity when operating the business for 6 hours. The total cost of electricity is $8 when operating the business for 80 hours The total cost of electricity is $10 when operating the business for 1 hour. 7. The tires Mary wants to buy for her car cost $200 per tire. A store is offering the following deal. Buy 3 tires and get the 4 th tire for 75% off! 6. The graph shows a proportional relationship between the number of hours (h) a business operates and the total cost (c) electricity. Mary will buy 4 tires using the deal. The sales tax is 8%. How much money will Mary save by using the deal versus paying the full price for all 4 tires? A. $150 B. $162 C. $185 D. $216 3 LAUSD Secondary Mathematics August 27, 2014

Which number line model represents the sum of 1 + (-? 10a = a positive number o -5.2 o b. -1 = a negative number o 3/2 o 7/3 10c. + 5 = zero o -5 o 5 10d = a negative number o o Identify the number (s) that makes each statement true. You may select more than one number for each statement. 4 LAUSD Secondary Mathematics August 27, 2014

5 11. A store is having a sale. Each customer receives either a 15% discount on purchases under $100 or a 20% discount on purchases of $100 or more. Kelly is purchasing some clothes for $96.60 before the discount. She decides to buy the fewest packs of gum that will increase her purchase to over $100. The price of each pack of gum is $0.79. After the discount how much less will Kelly pay by purchasing the clothes and the gum instead of purchasing only the clothes? (Assume there is no sales tax to consider.) Use words and/or numbers to show how you determined your answer. 12. Tim makes 80 gallons of paint by mixing 48 gallons of gray paint with 32 gallons of white paint. What part of every gallon is gray paint? The model represents 1 gallon of mixed paint. Shade the bars to show how much of the gallon is gray paint. 5 LAUSD Secondary Mathematics August 27, 2014

6 13. The value of y is proportional to the value of x. The constant proportionality for this relationship is 2. On the grid below, graph this proportional relationship. 14. This table shows a proportional relationship between x and y. Find the constant of proportionality (r) Using the value of r, write an equation in the form of y=rx. 6 LAUSD Secondary Mathematics August 27, 2014

7 15. Aakash, Bao Ying, Chris and Donna all live on the same street as their school, which runs from east to west. Aakash lives Bao Ying lives Chris lives Donna lives blocks to the west. blocks to the east. blocks to the west. blocks to the east. a) Draw a picture that represents the positions of their houses along the street. b) Find how far is each house from every other house? c) Represent the relative position of the houses on a number line, with the school at zero, points to the west represented by negative numbers, and points to the east represented by positive numbers. d) How can you see the answers to part (b) on the number line? Using the numbers (some of which are positive and some negative) that label the positions of houses on the number line, represent these distances using sums or differences. 16. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won the 100 meter sprint gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics. He ran the 100 meter race in 9.63 seconds. There are about 3.28 feet in a meter and 5280 feet in a mile.
