Within each orral, volunteers will be assigned by their orral Supervisors to one of four positions: Sign older: old tall orral signs to make each orral easily identifiable to participants. atekeeper: Stand at the orral entrance and verify that each participant a

3 entering has a valid bib number (i.e. the participant bib matches the orral). Rope older/uman hain: orm a line stretching from the east to west side of olumbus rive. old the yellow rope to create a barrier between orrals. t the direction of your orral Supervisor, slowly move forward as the race starts. lag earer: One volunteer in each orral will be responsible for holding a two-sided flag (red/green). This flag will be used to alert the Surveillance Team of the current conditions within the orral. s the orrals are filling prior to the race, the red flag should be displayed. Once the orral Supervisors have determined that the orral is ready for the start of the race (monitoring security, logistics and crowd control within the orral), the volunteer will raise the green flag. This will be the signal to Surveillance that the orral is ready to proceed to the start. RQUNTLY S QUSTIONS You will likely interact with many race participants throughout your volunteer shift. Please do your best to answer any questions they might have. If you do not know the answer to a question, that s okay. Refer to the orral layout on page 2 for specific locations. an I run with a friend/change my orral? No, you cannot move to another orral, neither in front of nor behind your assigned orral. This rule is in place to maintain the integrity of the orral pacing, ensure a fluid race start for all participants and prevent orral overcrowding. pril 7, 2013 STRT WV 1 LIT N UST NTIONL LU TM 8 M MPIONSIPS ORRL Which ear heck should I use and where is it? There are two ear heck facilities for participants. Your ear heck is colorcoordinated with your race bib. Participants with white bibs will check their gear at the UST National lub Team 8 km hampionships. Refer to the rant Park map on pages 7 and 8 for all important locations. ow do I attach my timing device? Your net finish time will be recorded by the MYLPS ib Tag timing device. This is different from past years in that you do not have to fasten a timing tag or chip to your running shoe. Rather, the timing device is permanently attached to the back of your bib number. Important: o not remove or fold the timing strips on the back of your bib number. You must wear your bib number on the front of your outermost layer of clothing to record an official finish time and finish place. Once all participants have crossed the start line, each Start orral Volunteer will have a post-start role to complete before the end of their shift. Specific tasks will be assigned to each orral. This role could include any of the following tasks: assist event staff with start line teardown, help to roll-up banners and fencing, or pick-up discarded clothing items on olumbus rive. These items will be donated to the Pacific arden Mission as part of the event s sustainability initiative. I lost my bib. I am late, what should I do? o not panic. If you are in Wave 1 and the field has not advanced, you can start at the back of orral. If Wave 1 is advancing, runners can wait and start at the back of orral. 3 4

4 I am late, can you take my bag to ear heck for me? or security reasons, volunteers NNOT take baggage for a participant under any circumstances. Where can I get safety pins or other runner supplies? Supplies are located inside each of the two ear heck facilities. What amenities are available on course? MI INORMTION s a uniformed and credentialed volunteer, please do not speak to any member of the media on behalf of the event, or comment on any aspect of the event. If you are approached by a member of the media, please respond by saying, I am not an approved spokesperson for the event. S levels range from Low (reen) to IRTIONS TO STRT ORRLS Moderate (Yellow) to igh (Red) to xtreme (lack) based primarily on weather, as well as other conditions. WV 1 Start/inish rea rant Park Wave 1 (orrals ) nter rant Park ere ate #3 ONTINNY/MRNY PLNS Many contingency plans are in place to handle an unplanned event such as diversion of the race route or adverse weather conditions. In the case of such an event, look to your Volunteer Supervisor for instructions. Medical personnel and volunteers are on site to handle any medical incidents that may occur. If you witness a person in need of medical attention, please call immediately. LOST & OUN Lost & ound items will be collected throughout the day and available for pick-up until 1:30 p.m. at rmation locations. Unclaimed items will be taken back to the office (135 S.
