1 OCTOBER 14 16, 2016 / BLUE MOUNTAIN / ONTARIO / CANADA TWENTY SIXTEEN EVENT GUIDE

2 WELCOME TO THE 2016 We are excited to welcome you to Canada s Blue Mountains for the third year of the OCRWC and what we hope will be one of the most remarkable experiences of your OCR career. This year, the OCRWC will draw athletes from over 30 countries, our most diverse event yet, giving you the opportunity to race against some of most passionate and dedicated obstacle course racers in the sport. More importantly, aside from just competing against them, we hope you ll take every opportunity to meet your fellow athletes and learn about OCR in other parts of the world. As anyone who has previously competed at the OCRWC can tell you, a large part of what makes this event so special are the relationships forged over just a few short days on a foundation built upon mutual love of the sport. Lastly, on race day, you will also have a chance to learn something about yourself. You will have a chance to compete on a course composed of some of the best obstacles in the sport, some of which you may recognize from your favorite races, and some of which are new. Attack them, all of them, and challenge yourself to emerge a greater athlete. After all, at the OCRWC we believe that though a race may last only a few hours, if run the right way, its impact is everlasting. See you out there. Adrian Bijanada & the OCRWC Team

Nutrition & Hydration There will be 4 hydration stations along the 15k course should athletes need them, as well as at the finish line. We encourage you to not underestimate your energy expenditure on the course. Last year, many competitors found themselves ill prepared for the rigor and time they spent on the course. If you feel you may need energy bars/gels, or other nutritional supplement, you are encouraged to bring it with you on the course. 8

11 Littering We are committed to leaving our host venue litter free. Any items you deem necessary to take with you at the start of the race, must be discarded appropriately in trash bins located at hydration stations throughout the race, or carried out with you at the end of the race. These items might include, but are not limited to, clothing, nutrition packaging, hydration packaging, etc. Any athlete found in violation may be disqualified by race officials. Course Cut-Offs PARTICIPANT DETAILS As much of the course does take place in densely wooded areas, as early evening hours approach, the course will become dark quickly. Due to this fact, a 5-hour cut-off time has been set for the safety of athletes, staff and volunteers. This 5-hour cut-off will be applied to all waves, and any athlete in an earlier wave not finishing under the 5-hour cut-off will be considered DNF, and not listed as an official finisher in the results. Understanding that they are representative of a growing athletic community and behaving responsibly throughout the event. Section 2: Timing All athletes start in a wave designated by the division in which they are registered and are required to start in that designated wave. With the exception of the Elite and Journeymen/women Divisions which start separately, all Age Group athletes are required to start in their assigned wave, specific to their age group. In the event that an athlete runs off-course, he/she must return to the original point of deviation to resume competition. Should an athlete need to leave the course for a comfort break, he/she must resume racing at the exact point of exit. Any athletes found on the course without prior approval from an OCRWC official will be immediately disqualified from the competition. 12

15 Voted 2015 Best International Event UK Mudstacle Awards OBSTACLES: Completion of all obstacles at the OCRWC is MANDATORY to be eligible for awards/prizes. There are no alternatives to obstacles such as burpees, push-ups, or other physical penalty. Additionally, all obstacles must be completed without assistance (unless specified otherwise for certain obstacles during athlete briefings), with the exception of Sunday s teamwork leg of team event. In the event an athlete fails an obstacle, he/she will be permitted additional attempts, provided he/she is not blocking the path of another athlete who is attempting to complete the obstacle for the first time. In addition, certain obstacles will have a dedicated lane for athletes making additional attempts. At these obstacles (which will be specified at pre-race briefings), athletes are REQUIRED to utilize these lanes. Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification. If an athlete still fails to complete an obstacle, he/she (or their team) will be assessed a time penalty (specific times will be addressed at pre-race briefings). Athletes receiving time penalties are still allowed to continue racing and considered finishers, but are not eligible for prizes/awards. All time penalties are applied after the event (no penalty boxes). Obstacle specific time penalties will be announced at pre-race briefings. OCTOBER 14 16, 2016 BLUE MOUNTAIN, CANADA 13
