1 Bridlington Road Runners Newsletter - Aug Issue Info@BridlingtonRR.co.uk Bridlington Road Runners Facebook Group Brid Free Press Reports By Cathy Wood 26th June The race week started on Tuesday evening for Bridlington Road Runners with the East Hull Harriers Summer League 10k race staged at Coniston. First Bridlington man back was Scott Hargreaves claiming sixth position in a respectable time of 35:35. Janet Potter was first Over-60 female and Verona Petty put in a strong run, earning her third position in the overall handicap series. 6th Scott Hargreaves 35:35, 23 Simon Ellerker 40:02, 33 Lewis Dale 41:26, 35 Bill Pike 41:29, 40 Andy Baker 42:06, 45 John Potter 43:12, 65 Mollie Holehouse 44:58, 76 Anthony Hughes 46:07, 77 Janet Potter 46:17 (1st F60 ), 78 Graham Lonsdale 46:20, 82 Martin Hutchinson 46:53, 104 Patricia Bielby 48:48, 115 Kelly Palmer 49:43, 116 Diane Palmer 49:49, 128 Heidi Baker 51:57, 133 Verona Petty 52:27, 147 Dominique Webster 54:08, 148 Zoe Ellis 54:09 30th June Saturday saw the start of the Endure 24, which was held at Bramham Park. This is a 24-hour race on an undulating five-mile lap of woodland trails. Athletes ran individually or in teams of two, six or eight. Although the weather was ideal for camping, and spectating, the extreme heat proved to be very challenging for the athletes taking part. Bridlington was strongly represented with three teams and two solo runners. After running as part of a team in a similar event last year Jane Welbourn decided to take on the challenge of a solo run. She took 35th female position and covered a distance of 60 miles altogether. Ultra-distance runner Anthony Hughes also took on the solo challenge and finished 13th male covering an incredible 100 miles. Not only does an athlete have to be in top physical condition to take on such an event but determination and a positive mental attitude is needed too, both of which Jane and Anthony had on the day. Female Solo in 35th, Jane Welbourn covering 60 miles. Male Solo in 13th, Anthony Hughes covering 100 miles. Mixed team 17th Wendy's Winners -165 miles; Six-member team 4th, Shake, Rattle & Run -155 miles; Mixed team 22nd, Bobettes-160 miles. 2 Safety Ideas ICE - In Case of Emergency We all think that nothing will ever happen to us while we are running/training. But it is sensible to take precautions - just in case something unfortunate does happen. Especially, if we are training on our own. A little while ago I noticed that one of our members was wearing her Parkrun Tag fastened to her vest and I assumed that she had forgotten to remove it. But she told me that she always wore it while out running BECAUSE it included her name, telephone number and medications. Personally, I thought that was a great idea. This info is on Parkrun barcode cards and wristbands which are available to buy from the Parkrun site. Last weekend I learnt of another alternative.. Many of us carry our mobile phones with us. Which is great if we have to call for assistance - but the Lock screen would prevent anyone else from knowing who we are or be able to call one of our contacts in an emergency. HOWEVER you can put a message on the LOCK SCREEN itself. For example:- ICE Tel: The way you do this is probably different with different phones. The way I did it was as follows (experiment to see how you do it on your phone). <Settings> <Lock Screen> <Owner Information> Input:- ICE Mobile Number &/or Land Line Andy Godfrey BFP Reports continued Ireland 41:29, 133rd Tracey Holehouse 44:34, 145th Sharon Bowes 45:32,158th Stuart Bowes 46:51, 164th Lynda Gent 47:37, 182nd Luke Duffill 50:51, 221 Linda Hall 56:12, 222nd Robert Calthorpe 56:12, 231st Tina Calthorpe 01:00:58. The Withernsea 5 Mile race was the 7th event in this years BRR Summer Challenge and the winners of the handicap on the day were Andy Long and Diane Palmer. (Full table on club web site) 3rd July Race nine of the City of Hull Champagne League was held at Kiplingcotes crossroads, over 5.1 miles of paths around Dalton Park. It was a warm evening, but Brid Road Runners had two great results with Scott Hargreaves leading the way, finishing first in a fantastic 29 minutes 13 seconds, and Dave Foster in 54:19 finished in a respectable 88th place. 7th July Nick Jordan was the first Brid runner to finish Sewerby Parkrun in a time of 19:58. Next in was John Potter who finished in 21st place with 21:58. Mollie Holehouse had a great run in 22:23 and was the 3rd Female finisher. Three people got PBs - Kelly Palmer, Miriam Ireland and Sam Adams At the Huddersfield Parkrun Patricia Bielby put in another good performance in 96th place with a time of 23:04 Two of the club, tried their hands at the Allerthorpe Sprint Triathlon. Both Katy Cawthorn and James Riley completed the course in 1 hour, 19 seconds and 1 hour 21 minutes. Cawthorn had a great swim completing it in 17 minutes, followed by the bike in 34 minutes and the 5k run in 25 minutes. Riley had to complete the swim using breaststroke rather than freestyle but managed a great time of 20 minutes, the bike in 35 minutes and the run in an impressive 23 minutes. 8th July Bill Pike took part in the Caistor Sting in the Trail 10K he placed really well 56th in 44 minutes 15 seconds. Scott Hargreaves continues to run well, finishing 5th in the Kilburn 7 Mile road race in 43:24. Sunday, was a warm day to hold the Chocolate 10K at York. This is a two lap event of the York Knavesmire, on both paths and on grass. The course is overlooked by the Terry s Clock Tower and racecourse grandstand. Both Dian Crone and Karen White ran together to enjoy the experience and support each other, finishing in 1 hour 23 minutes th July It was the longest of the EHH Summer League races this week, an eight-miler around the quiet roads of Skirlaugh. Bridlington Road Runners Josh Taylor ran well as he finished 14th overall in 49:56, with Simon Ellerker also performing well in 52:56. Andy Baker was next across the finish line for the club and seventh in the handicap system in 54:28. Youngster Lewis Dale had a great run, finishing in just under the hour mark in 59:59 to be the first junior male to finish. Janet Potter proved she was also back in great form finishing as the first LV60 in 1:01:04. 13th July At the Walkington 10K event, on both road and trail, Scott Hargreaves continues to impress, finishing fifth in 35:54. Martin Hutchinson was next in 47:27, followed by Verona Petty in 52:37 and Zoe Ellis in 55:36.

3 Jog along the Minster Way 2018 Second Leg Postponed until September On Saturday 9th June, Julie Robson Madden and myself will be leaving the HAYRIDE PUB, MOLESCROFT at 7:00am and running, jogging and walking half the route of the Minster Way and will then complete the route the following Saturday on 16th June! The first stage route is approximately 25 miles long, and we would love you all to join us. We will be running as a group, sticking together, running the pace of the slowest runner, you can run until you have had enough, no set mileage. You would have to arrange your own pick up lifts at which ever point you choose to stop but unfortunately we don t really know the times when we will reach each village. You could challenge yourself to see how far you can run in one go!! The first 3 miles are through the town of Beverley on footpaths therefore I plan to change my trainers once arriving at the Hayride Pub at Molescroft, from there on majority is off road, through lots of fields. You next go to; Arram, Scarborough, Lockington, Kilnwick, Bainton, North Dalton, Huggate and finally Millington! For this stage my hubby will follow us by car throughout the run, therefore we can leave supplies with him in the car. I m imagining we will be on our feet for the whole day, therefore lots of food, snacks and water will be a must! Last year we organised the Wolds Way and this was well supported and enjoyable, so this years challenge is a little different but hopefully an adventure!! Let us know if you fancy running some of the route or even all of it!! Thanks in anticipation!! Jane Welbourn 14th July Sewerby Parkrun on Saturday morning saw Josh Taylor finish ninth in 19:56 and Bill Pike was 10th to finish in 20:28. The in-form Mollie Holehouse was the first Bridlington lady to finish and was 22nd overall in 22:41. For the second week in a row, Sam Adams has achieved a PB, this is now down to 35:30. Patricia Bielby ran well at the Huddersfield Parkrun finishing in 22:49, as the sixth fastest female over the course, with an outstanding age grade percentage again of 91.6% and only a few seconds off her personal best. At the Wilmslow Parkrun Lyndon Spivey had a great run in 31:08. 15th July On a very hot day at the NoEgo Dalby Forest 10K and Half Marathon, Scott Hargreaves won the 10k in 43 minutes 15 seconds and Josh Taylor was 5th in 52:38. Miriam Ireland was the first BRR woman to finish in a great time of 1:08:02. In the Half Marathon Graham Lonsdale was the first Brid runner to complete the arduous course in 37th place. Other 10K results: 49 Stuart Bowes 1:11:01; 59 Verona Petty 1:12:20; 60 Dominique Webster 1:12:53; 61 Bob Eyre 1:12:53; 62 Zoe Ellis 1:12:53; 71 Sharon Bowes 1:16:00; 86 Vickie Ellerker 1:23:06; 87 Wendy Foster 1:23:16; 137 Dian Crone 1:49:20; 138 Karen White 1:49:20; 142 Linda Hall 2:00:50; 143 Janet Downes 2:00:57; 144 Tina Calthorpe 2:01:12; 145 Robert Calthorpe 2:01:12. Half Marathon results: 37th Graham Lonsdale 2:04:13; 51 Andy Long 2:07:57; 77 Emma Artley 2:18:19; 139 Heidi Baker 2:44:19. Afterwards, members enjoyed a great BBQ with Bob Eyre hard at working producing the Hot Dogs. Becky Clifton took part in the UK Ironman at Bolton. This is a multi-event, with an outdoor swim, cycle and run. However, the distances ensure that this is more than an endurance event. The swim over 2.4 miles at Pennington Flash took Becky 1:46:51, followed by a 112-mile bike ride circuit includes a hill climb of Sheep House Lane on two occasions, which took 6 hours 22 minutes. That was followed by a marathon run in 4 hours 45 minutes past lakes and the rose gardens of Queens Park which was four laps of the same 10k course. Her total time was 13 hours eight minutes and 17 seconds. A mixed team of club members took part in the York Triathlon. Martin Hutchinson completed the swim on 14:06, Liz Stevenson pedalled to 47:16 and April-Marie Exley put in a great 5K run in 23:51, for a team total of 1:26:49. 17th July It was another warm evening for the CoH Champagne League Race at Lockington over 4.3 miles.
