2 Navigation systems OFF. Throttles at lowest idle. Gears in neutral. Engine Room Checks Check oil level in both engines when engines are off and cool. Best time is in morning before taking off. The level should be between high and low range. NEVER overfill because air will be whipped into the oil, and the engine will overheat and fail. Check water intakes, which are the two big bronze strainers in-board of the engines. Baskets should be clear of weed and other debris. Visually inspect raycor fuel filters two for engines and two for the generators. Check bilge for water. In Preparation for Departure 1. Turn on: (Upper DC Panel) ALL 4 engine switches Stop solenoid switch Fore/Aft bilge pumps Horn Radar VHF Depth Sounder Bow Thruster Bottom white NAV switch 1. Power on RADIO, Navigation monitor. We recommend you do NOT power on AUTO PILOT until you have left marina. It can power on accidentally, and counter your rudder inputs in tight situations. Engine Start Before Start Record engine hours in log book. Check oil in engine room. Make sure Furuno navigation system is OFF Throttles should be at lowest setting and GEARS in Neutral. DC PANEL Turn on ALL five upper left switches 2 port/starboard engines 2 port/starboard engine vents 1 port/starboard stop solenoid Once you have switched these switches ON, the oil alarms will sound. Hit the silver start buttons on upper DC panel and hold until engines start. Release. Oil pressure alarms should go off. Allow engines to warm up for 3 minutes before engaging props. Optimal Cruising Speed

3 Engine Stop Maximum continuous rpm should not exceed 2,000. Best speed for economy: about 1600 rpm gives about 9 knots and about 9 gallons per hour. Engines can be stopped from bridge but to turn the oil alarm off, you must do this from the main panel in the DC panel box. Make sure stop solenoid switch is ON. Press and hold both stop silver metal STOP buttons until engines stop. Oil alarm will sound. Turn off Port and Starboard engine switches. Navigation Furuno There are two distinct integrated Furuno GPS/radar units. They are equipped with AIS capability. We recommend you view their operational capabilites are this link. They are worth watching. Videos.aspx In order to load all functions, all must be on BEFORE you boot the system up. Turn on the Radar, Depth, GPS, and VHF Radio switches on the DC panel, and turn the VHF radio ON, to activate the AIS. One unit is located on the upper bridge and the other in the main salon. To turn the unit(s) on. Radio Depth GPS Radar The system menu items have been professionally configured to match Black Swan and her needs. DO NOT mess around in the system menu area. If you do and the system has to be set up again, it will cost $90/hour to do so. Aside from the system menu, there are plenty of choices you CAN make with this 3-D navigational program as far as your display. This system is integrated with the Matrix AIS GX2100 VHF which includes Automatic Identification System (AIS) which is a real tool in your navigational toolbox to see who/what is around you. Black Swan also sends out her signature to other AIS capable vessels. Furuno Quirk-Alert The Furuno system takes a couple of minutes to boot up after turning on the on/off button. Make sure the following switches on the lower DC panel are turned on BEFORE turning on the system. Navigation VHF Radio, and radio ON at the radio itself Depth Sounder

4 If you discover you are NOT registering depth, you must turn the system off in order to turn whatever switch needs to be turned on. It will not work to simply turn various switches on and off because Furuno is very strict in how it recognizes which modules are wanted. They must be switched ON before turning whole system on. The main salon system must be turned on before the unit on the bridge will activate. VHF Radio Communication System Matrix AIS GX2100 This system is integrated with the Matrix AIS GX2100 VHF which includes Automatic Identification System (AIS) which is a real tool in your navigational toolbox to see who/what is around you. Black Swan also sends out her signature to other AIS capable vessels. Auto Pilot Activation Turn on Auto pilot (AP) switch from DC panel Hit AP ON from main panel in salon or from the hand-held controller on the bridge. Autopilot Quirk-Alert The autopilot will immediately start navigating if switched to ON position. If you want it ON but not activated, switch to STAND-BY. Sometimes the activation switch on the hand-held controller gets inadvertently turned on. If all of a sudden the wheel is NOT responding or the boat is seemingly possessed, check to see if the autopilot power is ON. The boat will NOT respond to wheel when the Autopilot is activated. Accidental flipping of switch is easy. Autopilot RECOMMENDATION: Never use AP in narrow, tight fitting channels, under bridges, marinas or tight anchorages. Do not power it on until needed, and power off when not desired.

5 Anchoring Turn anchor windlass switch ON (starboard bulkhead aft of DC panel). Remove anchor lashing line clipped to shank of anchor. Expose foot switches under canvas cover, below forward AC connection depress DOWN switch to run anchor out. Depress UP switch to bring anchor up. WARNING! Windlass is very powerful. Keep hands away from chain gypsy. Keep all stray lines away also. Do not bring anchor shackle up tight to chain pulley. Wash-down pump must be on at DC panel ONLY when in use. DO NOT turn off at spigot, and leave pump on. Docking Have Lines fore and aft, and springs fore and aft ready. Fenders out, as appropriate. Bow thruster ON, and verify function in both directions. For the person tending to the lines, getting on to the dock is easiest from the aft swim platform rather than jumping from sides. Black Swan s General Systems Generators #1 20kw; #2 3kw Both are activated from the AC panels. #1 the bigger 20 kw is for cooking with stove, running air conditioners. #2 the smaller 3kw is suitable for making coffee, crane winch and tv. Breaker for #2 generator is located in the locked electrical panel in the Starboard stateroom aft bulkhead. There is only ONE key for this electrical panel so be sure to take it out and safely store in drawer in forward companionway, aft of main nav station. Starting Generators Master AC switches OFF (not desirable to start generator under load). Lower panel on AC side, switch AC power selector to GEN. Shore power selector to OFF. Generator selector to desired generator. For #1, press silver button until starts. For #2, press the rocker switch START located in upper AC panel lower right corner. Master AC switches ON. Turn on only AC switches you need.

6 Turning Generators Off Turn off AC master switches. Galley Things here are pretty straightforward. Refrigerator and freezer are two separate units. Galley QUIRK ALERT! The refrigerator is located nearest the sink. The door closes only with some extra force on the lower right corner with your foot. Slamming won t close it. Gentle applied pressure will. Items left against the cold plate in the fridge will freeze. Keep a space there to avoid that, and also to cool the rest of the fridge more efficiently. Freezer door closes normally. To get water from the galley sink faucets, make sure the WATER PRESSURE switch is turned on either on DC or AC panel. Hot water will be there if engines have been going OR by switching on the hot water switch in the AC panel. Electrical Heads General remarks: Turn the heads on from the DC panel. There is one for fore and aft. Only dispose of toilet paper and human waste in head. NOTHING ELSE. Head Quirk-Alert! The heads are based on creating a vacuum. You create a vacuum by pulling out the silver knob labeled Electrical Head. Remember to push the knob IN before leaving the head. It tends to cycle as the vacuum bleeds off, if you leave it on. Electrical Head Operation (same for both heads) Turn on Electrical heads on DC panel. Pull silver knob out prior to doing your business to create vacuum. Allow to pump for at least 30 seconds or until it no longer pumps. Do your business. Depress foot pedal to flush. Allow pump to cycle again for at least seconds. Push silver knob switch IN. (to off position) Shower General remarks: Turn water pressure on from DC panel. If you are on DC power, the water will be heated from the engines. In order for the water to drain from the showers, you must activate the drain pump.

7 There is a breaker switch on the DC panel, and a silver knob in each head. Both must be ON to drain shower. Just before you get into the shower, turn on drain pump. This silver knob is located in the head. Pull it OUT. When you are through with your shower, squeegee walls free of excess water. This will reduce the moisture in the air in the head considerably, and prevent mildew. Turn off drain pump by pushing knob IN Climate Control Black Swan has two AC units which we doubt you will need here in the PNW. There are NO heating units. Dinghy Plug in Winch to AC power on upper deck. Remove canvas cover. Hitch winch hook to lifting harness on dinghy. Lift dinghy. Swing out over side. DO NOT GET UNDERNEATH DINGHY while it is up. Secure long dinghy painter. Run winch out until dinghy is in water, and fend off the sides to avoid scrapes. Unhitch hook and secure on deck. Store lifting harness securely, until ready to recover dinghy. Canvas/Window Screens Upper bridge: Best Practice is to cover upper nav station at night, to keep dew and rain off the electronics and seats. Rail coverings All of the coverings are labeled to make covering rails easier. When you are underway, take these coverings off and store in aft lazarette. Once you get to where you will be for a sustained amount of time, cover railings. Window screens are labeled as to the window and up/down. Underway, take them off and store in aft lazarette. When taking them off or putting them on, make sure they are somehow secured. The wind has an uncanny way of snapping them up and into the water. They are expensive to replace. Outside Storage in Lazarette Emptying Holding Tank Fore and Aft tanks, both pump-out ports located on Port side of deck. Filling Tanks with Water/Diesel Port and Starboard tanks, with bronze fills on deck. White plastic knurled knobs are the easiest to use to get them open and shut.

8 This is located in the small drawer aft of the nav station, on the starboard side of the forward companionway. General Comfort/Entertainment Systems Multi-media TV The tv is connected to the DVD. The TV is NOT connected to any live tv source. DVDs can be played in the dvd player and viewed on the tv. Music can be played/listened to with Sony Receiver located in main salon and on upper bridge with MP3 player, CDs or tuner. Speakers are located throughout the boat. Each one has their own knob which goes from mute to full volume. Sony Receiver Quirk-Alert: This receiver will play your MP3, cds and has a am/fm tuner. If it does not respond at all and the face cover seems like it is going to fall off, it probably is about to come off. This receiver is equipped with a face that detaches so as to deter any thieves. If it is loose, just re-insert. I find putting the lower right corner in first and then gently fitting the rest into the space works well. The POWER switch is located in the upper left hand corner. This power button is not well identified and if you are of the age where you need cheaters to read, it becomes even more difficult to locate this button. It IS there. Have patience. Sony receiver with key inputs on/off, source and eject keys. MP3 PLAYER To operate, connect your MP3 device to the SONY receiver which is located in the console next to the settee. Turn SONY unit on. The on button is located in the upper left hand corner. Then select the SOURCE input which will be AUX. Once this is done, you will select your music via your MP3 player. CDs Turn SONY unit on. The on button is located in the upper left hand corner. FIRST, insert your disc(s). Then select the SOURCE input and scroll through until you see CD. If there aren t any CDs in the unit, you won t see CD as an option for the source. Play functions are operated from Sony receiver. AM/FM TUNER Turn SONY unit on. The on button is located in the upper left hand corner. Then select the SOURCE input which will be TUNER. Select the band you want to listen to and then select your station by?????.

9 Chelsey Clock/Barometer This is a ship strike clock. Fully wound, runs for a week. You can silence the BELLS with the tiny level located near 11 o clock. The bell side allows the clock to ring; the opposite side is silence. BBQ Propane bottles in bench locker on port side of upper deck.
