1 The SECOR VOLVO FISHERS ISLAND 420 RACE 2016 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Please do not print unless necessary. We are the joining race to restore ocean health with Sailors for the Sea s Clean Regattas program. The ocean is in crisis with plastic waste, oil spills, and acidification threatening not only marine life but also our health for generations to come. With your help following Clean Regattas Best Practices we can reduce our trail to protect the ocean. *please use your own charts or print these included as needed* 1. Rules 1.1 The Series will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing. 2. Notice to Competitors 2.1 Any changes to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Official Notice Board before 8am August 17, Posted changes will also be announced via VHF and hailer prior to the First Warning. 3. Signals Made Ashore 3.1 Any race Postponed or Abandoned prior to 1000 on the day of race will be posted online and will be communicated via VHF starting continuing approximately every 10 minutes until the time of the First Warning. 4. Schedule of Races 4.1 SKIPPERS MEETING Tuesday night 5:30pm August 16 th, at Wadawanuck YC. 4.2 SAILORS PARADE 9am August 17 at Wadawanuck YC 4.3 START 10am August 17, Stonington Harbor at Green Can FINISH at approx 3pm, August 17, Stonington Harbor at Green Can Classes and Handicaps 6. Courses 7. Marks 5.1 Open to all Club 420 s & 29 ers. 6.1 The marks of the course will be posted on the top row of the Course Board in order of rounding. Refer to Appendix A for the list of marks. 6.2 The letters P (port) or S (starboard) will indicate which side to round. 7.1 Refer to Appendix A for a complete list of marks. 7.2 Any leg may begin with a drop mark. This mark will be designated by a W on the coarse board.

2 8. Restrictions 9. Start 8.1 Boats shall not pass between Flat Hammock and South Dumpling. 8.2 Boats shall NOT pass to the NORTH of a line between nuns 22, 24, and 26 located south of Groton Long Point. 9.1 Starting sequence will be 5 minuet starts, with 420 s first followed by 29 ers after. 9.2 The starting line will be between an Orange flag on the RC and an orange floating mark. 9.3 The RC may notify boats OCS by sail number or boat name. Misunderstandings, errors, or omissions that may result from such communications are not grounds for protest and only the RC may request redress. RRS 62.1a is changed in such instances. 10. Scoring 10.1 When a change of course is signaled, the RC may identify the new mark with its letter designation as defined in Appendix A of the Sailing Instructions. This modifies Rule The finish line will be between an Orange Flag on the Committee/Finish Boat and an orange floating mark Boats withdrawing shall immediately notify the RC The time limit is 2 hours after the start of each leg Any boat which has not finished with 20 min of the first place boat will be scored TLE (Time Limit Expired) Notify your intent by hailing RC within 10 minutes of finishing One completed race constitutes a Series Combined scores of each leg & fastest RaceQs speed at any point of the race For instructions on how to use RaceQs to track and record fastest speed entry please go to Ties will be broken by fastest recorded RaceQs speed TLE boats will receive points equal to the number of class finishers plus one RaceQs speed challenge will be compiled from uploads after racing. 15. Radio Communication 15.1 The RC will communicate on VHF Ch. 01A All boats shall check in by passing within hailing distance of the Committee Boat on the side opposite the starting line prior to the starting sequence.
