Electrical System SERRANO has ample power with an easy to use 12-volt system. The batteries are situated in the port bridgedeck locker, at the forward end of the bridge deck seating. The solar panels located over the rear deck seat and the engines are used for recharging these batteries. Power used has to be replaced by the sola panels or operation of the motors. Monitor your battery condition on the switchboard volt meter located in the starboard hull to ensure they are kept charged. A selector switch is provide to show the voltage of all batteries Heavy power consumption will require you to replace the power used by running your engines. There are two battery selection and auto charging system located in the battery locker. Switch 1: Supplies the two house batteries Battery 1 & Battery 2 Each morning the battery selection switch is to be switched over to the opposite battery from 1 to 2 or vise versa. This will allow the used battery to recharge to full capacity while providing power from the second charged battery. The battery selector switch should not be used in the both position as both batteries may be flattened leaving the motors unable to be started. Note: If using the engines to charge the batteries run above idle at about quarter revs. Switch 2: Selects the battery banks position (1) Emergency backup Battery 3 or position (2) house batteries, Battery 1 & Battery 2 This should normally be left in position 2 for all normal operations If the house batteries are run flat select position 1 to provide power to start the engines the return to position 2 (1) Battery Selector switch for House batteries 1-2 (2) Battery Selector switch for House batteries or emergency battery (3)

Navigation Instruments Serrano is equipped with three instruments which give you boat speed, depth of water and wind speed and direction. Do not adjust these instruments as damage can occur to sensitive electronics if used incorrectly. There is no need to adjust any settings by using the buttons on the instruments. A depth alarm is set for Two and a Half (2.5) Meters of water depth. Alarm will beep; beep whilst in areas of shallow water. Note: Never rely solely on the depth sounder when moving in shallow water or when anchoring, keep a good visual lookout. The depth reading on the sounder is depth of water under the middle of the Starboard hull and should be used as a guide only. A crewman should look for danger from the bow and the vessel should be manoeuvred very slowly whilst anchoring. Remember that the instruments are computers and incorrect use of buttons can cause false displays or damage.

Engines. Serrano is powered by two Yamaha 9.9HP Electric Start outboards and cruises at six knots. Two 50-litre fuel tanks give a cruising range of 30 hours. Before Starting Engines. Ensure that the Engines have been lowered into the water, by uncleating the raise/lower rope located on the rear beam directly behind each motor and lowering the motor carefully into the water. Note: (Failure to lower the engines into the water before trying to start the engines will damage the water pump leading to damaged motors and expensive repair bills). Check that the tender has been secured short alongside the port hull and that there are no ropes or fishing lines in the water. To Start Engines. 1. Lower motors into water slowly using the raise-lower rope at the rear of each motor 2. Select neutral gear with control lever in central position. 3. Pump fuel bulb in engine bay until firm. 4. Turn the ignition key clockwise to start engine. 5. As soon as Engine starts release the key, key will spring return to the centre location upon release. 6. If motor fails to start disengage the gear shift by depressing the black rubber covered button on the throttle control and moving the throttle ¼ forward and retry starting. 7. Once the Engines are running lift the motor cover/seat and check that there is a good flow of cooling water discharging from the motor cooling telltale. 8. Before raising anchor or untying from jetty test the motors in both directions for correct operation

To Stop Engines 1. Slow the Engines to idle. 2. Select neutral. 3. Turn the ignition key off. 4. Raise the Engines from the water by pulling the lockdown release rope and pulling the Engine up with the raise rope, cleat rope on the black cleat located on the rear beam. To Engage Gears 1. Push control levers firmly forward to engage forward gear. 2. Pull control levers firmly back to engage reverse gear. Always pause at neutral for a few seconds when changing gears. To disengage gears for running motors at fast idle for battery charging, press the black button at the base of the gear lever in and move lever forward. Checking of oil in the engines is not necessary during your charter unless a problem occurs and you have made contact with Lake Macquarie Catamaran Charters. It is a requirement of the charter to regularly check that there is adequate cooling water coming from the engine during running by lifting the cover/seat and inspecting the water flow from the motor telltale. If the water flow fails turn the motor off and contact Lake Macquarie Catamaran Charters If an engine alarm sounds or low oil light glows while engine is still running 1. Stop the engine 2. Call , for advice and assistance. 3. Serrano can be safely manoeuvred in open water with the use only one motor. 4. Never approach a jetty without the operation of both motors. If assistance is required find a safe and secure anchorage area lower the anchor and call Lake Macquarie Catamaran Charters, , for advice and assistance

Windlass. Anchor winch When using a windlass, it is important to keep your fingers and toes well away from the teeth of the windlass and the chain as it passes over the bow roller, as accidentally trapping them could cause serious injury. Keep your fingers and toes away from the chain as it passes over the bow roller SERRANO is fitted with an electric anchor Windlass for raising & lowering the anchor. There is 30 meters of 8mm chain and an additional 50meters of rope Lowering the Anchor 1. Select your location and check water depth. 2. Pull the tender alongside, to avoid wrapping the painter (rope) around the motor propellers. 3. Stop the vessel with the bow into the wind. 4. Release the Anchor securing hook located on the front deck, this will now allow the chain to run free 5. Using the switch located in the starboard hull companion way in front of the steering wheel operate the down function to lower the anchor, or a. Using the winch handle located in the front Starboard locker insert it in the top of the winch and rotate anti clockwise b. This will allow the chain to pay out and the speed can be controlled by tightening or loosening the top section of the winch c. Ensure the chain is run out to at least (5) Five times the depth of water d. Once chain is run out, tighten the top section of the winch by moving the handle Clockwise to prevent more chain slipping out and reconnect the chain secure hook 6. Allow the vessel to lay into the wind while keeping the engines in neutral, if required connect the anchor bridle to the chain, 7. After the anchor chain and rope has been laid out gently run the Engines in reverse to set the anchor.

8. After about 10 minutes check to ensure your position is the same and the anchor is holding, continue to monitor you position periodically. 9. If the anchor doesn't hold let out a further 10 metres and try again. 10. If the anchor fails to hold lift the anchor, check for obstructions and reset as above 11. Assess the area around for swing room from the shore and other boats. 12. Remove the handle from the winch at the completion of the anchoring Raising the anchor To Raise the anchor the preferred point of operation is the UP button located directly below the winch on the front deck Release the Anchor securing hook located on the front deck, this will now allow the chain to run free With the motors running but not in gear use the deck UP button to raise the anchor keeping an eye on the chain direction. Don't over run the chain and make sure the chain comes up vertically. Keep the skipper informed so the vessel moves ahead in the direction of the chain. As the anchor comes up to the front roller stop raising and ensure that the anchor is facing the correct direction to come on board, this is also a good time to wash any accumulated mud or weed off. Before hoisting to docking location check that the anchor is facing down so that it comes onto deck correctly Reconnect the chain secure hook SERRANO is fitted with a manual anchor winch, 10 metres of chain, 30 metres of rope and a CQR type anchor. this spare anchor is located in the starboard bow locker. The spare anchor is for emergency use ONLY. The winch raises the anchor when the winch handle is rotated in the clockwise direction To Lower the Emergency Anchor 1. Open the anchor locker hatch to allow for discharging of the chain and rope as it is lowered 2. Lower the anchor by using the winch handle in the windlass and operating it in the anticlockwise direction. This will loosen the clutch-brake assembly and allow for a controlled paying out of the anchor chain. 3. When the required length of chain and rope is released (5 times the depth of water minimum) allow the vessel to lay into the wind while keeping the engines in neutral, if

required connect the anchor bridle to the chain, securely cleat the anchor rope to the anchor bollard near the windlass. 4. After the anchor chain and rope has been laid out gently run the Engines in reverse to set the anchor. 5. After about 10 minutes check to ensure your position is the same and the anchor is holding, continue to monitor you position periodically. 6. If the anchor doesn't hold let out a further 10 metres and try again. 7. If the anchor fails to hold lift the anchor, check for obstructions and reset as above To lift your anchor 1. Start the motors and test operation 2. Open the anchor locker hatch to allow for flaking of the rope - chain as it is retrieved. 3. Pull the anchor in by winding the windlass in the clockwise direction. 4. Only use the motor very slowly forward if the wind is of such a strength that you are unable to retrieve the anchor. 5. Don't over run the chain and make sure the chain comes up vertically. 6. Keep some hand tension on the chain to ensure it engages properly on the winch. 7. As the anchor comes up to the front roller stop raising and ensure that the anchor is facing the correct direction to come on board, this is also a good time to wash any accumulated mud or weed

8. Refrigeration SERRANO has a 12-volt electrical Eutectic fridge and a deck esky. Eutectic Chest Fridge To operate ensure the switch marked Freezer is turned on at the switchboard. This switch should be left on at all times unless different instructions are issued or the batteries have been run flat. The fridge compressor will run from around 11am until 2pm and whenever the engines are running this will be sufficient to keep the fridge at operating temperature. The compressor is located under the Starboard rear bunk. This area must not be used for storage as it may lead to overheating the compressor unit Note: If the compressor is running at other times it is likely that the engine key has been left in the run position. Failure to correct this will flatten the battery and freeze your food

Stove and BBQ. LPG Bottle. The gas bottle provided has enough gas to easily last your charter. Refilling it in mid charter is not necessary. SERRANO is equipped with a two-burner gas stove with grill located in the galley and a BBQ located on the rear deck. Both of these are supplied with gas from the gas bottle located on the transom rail. As a safety precaution the gas supply should always be turned off at the bottle when not in use. In Case of emergency isolate gas in the locker behind the gas stove or at the gas bottle located on the rear deck. BBQ To operate the gas BBQ. Turn on the gas bottle valve Turn on the inline isolation valve Press the control knob in and turn anti-clockwise The valve opens fully as soon as it starts to turn giving high heat. Turn it fully anti-clockwise for low heat.

Gas Stove To operate the gas stove Ensure the gas isolation valve located in the locker behind the stove is turned to the on position. Select the required gas burner. Push the gas control knob in and turn anticlockwise to adjust the flow of gas. Use the provide gas lighter hold it up against the burner and ignite the gas. Adjust the flame to suit; continue to hold the control knob in for 10 seconds to allow the safety circuit to activate. If the burner goes out - repeat the procedure. Turn control knob back to the top to extinguish the flame.

Hot Water Service Showers SERRANO is equipped with a gas hot water service for the shower located in the port bathroom. To light the hot water system. Turn on the gas bottle valve located on the transom rail. Turn on the gas isolation valve located in the locker in the port bow cabin. Read and follow the operating instructions located on the front panel of the heater unit. 1. Slide the control across to low 2. Push and hold the control knob in 3. Push the ignite button repeatedly until the pilot burner is alight (If the gas has been off for some time or the bottle changed this may take 10 minutes for the gas to come through the system) 4. Once the pilot burner is alight hold the control knob for 20 seconds then release. 5. Slide the controller to full

To Operate bathroom shower. To operate Deck Shower. Before using the internal shower ensure the FRESH WATER PUMP SWITCH located on the switchboard is turned on. Light the hot water service as described above. Turn the Hot shower tap on first Adjust the Cold water tap until the required temperature is reached. The shower water drains into a small sump in the floor, which contains an electric pump. There is a silver pull switch located below the shower taps. To drain the shower water pull out this switch this during your shower. The length of time spent in the shower should be kept as short as possible to avoid running out of fresh water. The deck shower is located on the port transom in a convenient location for rinsing off after swimming. To operate ensure the WATER PUMP switch is on at the switchboard. Hold the hand piece while adjusting the control knob to the required flow. The length of time spent in the shower should be kept as short as possible to avoid running out of fresh water. When finished - turn everything off again.

Fresh Water SERRANO is equipped with 600 litres of freshwater in a tank located under the front bridge deck seat. Water level gauge is located under the electrical control panel in the galley The fresh water tank deck filler cap is located just forward of the mast. One freshwater pump located in the starboard forward cockpit locker. To operate the fresh water system turn the WATER PUMP switch on at the main electrical panel. Open water tap as required and the system will supply cold water at pressure, then when the taps is closed the pump will build up pressure again then turn off. Make sure the pump turns off when taps are off. If the pump continues to run check all taps for correct closure or water hoses for leaks.

Toilet. SERRANO has an electric macerating toilet, which flushes directly into a sewage holding tank system using seawater. To operate all that is required is to push the white time control switch or the silver button located on the toilet wall. On longer charters it may be necessary to make arrangement to have the holding tanks emptied. There is a red indication light to warn of full holding tank located above flushing buttons Only human waste and toilet paper can be put in the toilet. Sanitary pads, tampons and other waste must be disposed of in the rubbish as they will block and damage the system. Ensure all crewmembers know how to use the toilet properly because a blocked toilet can spoil your holiday and ruin your budget!! After using toilet. Press the flush button to flush toilet with seawater. Repeat if required. Do not over flush as this will result in the holding tank filling quicker and you will have to return to shore for tank emptying sooner. Make arrangements with Lake Macquarie Catamaran Charters when the holding tank requires pumping If the toilet is blocked during charter as a result of misuse, there will be a charge to have the blockage cleaned out.

If the toilet does become blocked or slow to flush and is beginning to overfill the following may help to clear the blockage Close the seawater intake valve located under the port bow berth ( shown in the picture) With the valve closed flush the toilet, no more water will enter the toilet giving time for the contents of the bowl to empty this step may have to be repeated several times

Bilge Pumps. SERRANO has 3 manual pumps. One in each aft cabin under the bunk and one under the starboard saloon seat. High-level bilge water alarms are located under each aft cabin berth. If these sound the water can be pumped out using the appropriate pump. Any other water can be removed by the cockpit pump using its long hose to reach the problem area.

Manoeuvring and Steering SERRANO will turn in its own length with one engine slowly in forward and one slowly in reverse. When moving at a very slow speed you will have to use your engines to steer. When engaging reverse gear PAUSE at the neutral throttle position before moving into reverse so as to allow the motor to come back to idle before moving into reverse and engaging power. Be careful you don't overload the steering when trying to turn in a small area. Use the engines instead. To prevent damage to the tender or the main engines when manoeuvring. Always ensure the tender is alongside and secured by a short rope. Or if moving astern trail it from the bow. The best place to learn how your vessel manoeuvres is when you have plenty of space out in open water. Familiarise yourself out in open water before entering an anchorage area or bay. Engage reverse and test the vessel's response to the helm position. Before you approach a berth have all (6) fenders down to the correct level for the height of the berth. The loops on the mooring ropes should be attached to the deck cleats with the ropes under the lifelines and ready to throw. In strong winds do not approach Marinas, Jetties, Wharves or other Vessels. Use extreme care when moving into a mooring area or anchorage area. Approach the area slowly but ensure you are moving steadily to retain good steerage. Make sure you select a position to anchor well in advance of your arrival.

Sailing SERRANO Close all hatches when sailing to avoid damage if a rope catches on hatch. Keeping the hatches closed when going to windward will prevent water splashing on to cabin bunks. Sails SERRANO has easily handled roller furling headsail and a slab reefing mainsail system. When raising or lowering sails always head into the wind to reduce the load on the sails. Headsail When unfurling the headsail, Release roller furler, furling line rope clutch by lifting the handle at port side of the cockpit.( ensure that the rope is free to run) Pull the jib sheet rope to unfurl sail.(check that it is loading onto the furling drum at the bottom of the jib correctly) Wrap the jib sheet around the leeward winch drum for two turns in the clockwise direction then lead the rope up over the guide and secure in the self tailer Using the winch handle rotate anti clockwise for high speed or clockwise for high power until the sail is sheeted to the correct position for the angle of sailing. Tacking the headsail Load the windward or loose jib sheet on to the winch on the opposite side of the cockpit as previously described and pull in the slack rope Remove the winch handle from the winch in use As the boat is tacked through the wind release the jib rope from the winch by winding it in an anticlockwise direction. When the rope is free the new loaded winch can be wound in to the correct position.

Furling the headsail Release the jib sheet from the winch Keep slight tension on the jib sheet to prevent the sail from flogging on the rigging. Pull the roller furler, furling rope in by hand.(do not use winch to roll the sail) If the rope is excessively hard to pull in check that it has not become caught on the front deck area. When sail is fully rolled in lock off the rope clutch by closing the handle. Sails may require continual adjustment to account for wind angle changes Never use a winch on furling lines as damage to the forestay may result. Never release tension on mast headsail halyard, which is secured with lashing, this is only released when removing the sail for maintenance. It is not necessary to reduce the headsail area until winds exceed 20 knots.

Mainsail Onboard SERRANO the mainsail should be. Reduced to the first reef point when winds reach a constant 18 knots apparent on the wind instrument or when the conditions require it. Reduced to the second reef point at 22 knots apparent on the wind instrument. Do not use the mainsail if the winds exceed 25 knots. In heavy weather conditions it is best to motor or motor/sail with a minimum amount of headsail. To Raise the Mainsail 1. Unzip the mainsail cover completely to the end. 2. Move vessel slowly into the head to wind position by using the motors. 3. Release the mainsail sheet rope in the cockpit and pull some slack rope through 4. Locate the traveller car to the centre of the boat. 5. Raise the mainsail by pulling the mainsail halyard by hand and checking that the sail battens pass freely between the lazy jack ropes. 6. The sail will be able to be raised almost to the top before requiring winching for final tension. 7. Before using the winch make sure the sail has not jammed in the track or the top of the lazy jacks. 8. When the mainsail is hoisted to the required position lock the rope clutch by closing the handle

To Reef the Mainsail Before raising the mainsail, Hook the stainless steel reefing eyelet located on the luff (front) of the mainsail onto the reefing hooks located on the boom gooseneck.(as show in the picture) If the mainsail is already raised lower the halyard until the above step can be completed. Once the sail is hooked on to the reefing hooks retention the mainsail halyard. To complete the reefing procedure. Select the reefing rope that corresponds with the reefing position you have selected at the luff of the mainsail. These ropes are located on the cockpit sides, o Number one reef point rope clutch on the starboard side. o Number two reef point rope clutch on the port side Tighten the reefing line selected, which leads along the deck and up along the boom to the Leach (back) of the mainsail, by winching the rope in. This controls the leach (back) of the sail and as it is tensioned the back of the mainsail will be drawn down to the boom. When the sail is drawn down close to the boom lock the rope clutches and release the ropes from the winch. To shake out the reef Release the mainsheet rope to ease the load on the sail, the boom will be held up by the topping lift Release the rope clutch that is securing the leech reefing rope and allow the rope to run free. Release the mainsail halyard by using the winch to take up the strain on the halyard and releasing the rope clutch, lower the halyard 300 mm. Unhook the reefing eye in the mainsail luff and ensure that it is clear Commence winching the mainsail up the mast to the required position the re-close the main halyard rope clutch.

To Lower the Mainsail Using the motors steer the boat into the head to wind position. Release mainsheet and centre the mainsheet traveller. Release the halyard by opening the mainsail rope clutch to lower the mainsail. Feed the halyard up the mast from the mast base, most of the mainsail should fall into the cover and the rest can be pushed in by hand. If safe to do so put the boom over to the port side and attach the rope preventer this will prevent the boom swinging about Stand next to the cabin reach over and pack the mainsail and ropes into the sail cover. Ensure that there are no ropes in the water that could entangle the motors

Emergency Procedures. SERRANO has a number of safety features, which include: First Aid Kit. Is located behind the stove in the galley on the starboard side of the vessel. Safety Equipment Flares, V-Sheet, Handheld flares and other emergency equipment are stowed behind the stove in the galley on the starboard side of the vessel.

Lifejackets Are stowed under the cockpit seat on the port side of the vessel. Instructions for the donning of life jackets are located on the front section of the bridgedeck

Life rings Life rings are located each side of the BBQ on the rear seats If someone falls over board Keep an eye on them and throw them a life ring Notify the skipper Take a bearing on the compass and the shore line Clear all ropes from the water Lower and start motors Roll up headsail Motor into wind and lower main sail Turn boat around and return along reverse compass bearing Post lookouts to spot person in the water When located approach from the leeward direction Pick up the rope from the life ring with the boat hook Pull the person to the back of the boat When near to the boat stop all motors to prevent injury from the propellers Pull person from the water up the stern and administer first aid Notify emergency services as required

Fire Extinguishers Two dry chemical type on board. One is located in each hull. Fire buckets are located under the starboard cockpit seat To Operate Fire Extinguishers. Lift off mounting brackets Pull out safety pin Aim nozzle at the base of the fire Pulled the trigger and use a sweeping action to extinguish the fire.
