Winter is obviously here and Christmas is just around the corner. I hope many of you plan to join us for the Christmas party next week. I was at the lake this weekend and noticed a number of boats on C, D and E slips. Please move your boats to A or B slips as soon as possible. Given the recent winds we have had, it is also important to check your boats on a regular basis to make sure they are secure and all the tarps and halyards are tight. During the month of December, the BOG will be developing budgets for each committee. It will take the combined efforts of all members to help control costs as we expect revenue to be flat or possibly lower than last year. Your stewardship of our club is the basis for our success over the years and is why we have the premier sailing facility in the Midwest. Our Catalina 30 Silk Degrees is located at slip A9. Please stop by for a visit when you get the chance. I look forward to serving the club this year and welcome your thoughts and suggestions any time. Mark your trailers, keep air in the tires, check your boats, secure loose halyards, close gates and lock unoccupied yards. * Security Almost every Sunday afternoon there have been gates left open. Please remember to check the gates when you are the last to leave the yards or docks. 2 Board of Governors 2010 NSA Events Calendar Dec. 10 Christmas Caroling with Allen and Thumper Dec 11 Holiday Party Dec 31 New Years Eve Party Ninnescah Sailing Association Board of Governors - December 2, 2010 Minutes Present: Hieger, Kramer, Olsen, Mosley, Cheatum, Randle, Gronniger, Born, Vetter, and Johnson Absent: Adams Members & Guests: Sheryl Born Commodore Hieger called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm. - The minutes of November BOG meeting were approved as published. Treasurer Report - Mosley presented the Statement of Financial Position for the month ended November 30, 2010 and it was accepted by the Board as presented. He also presented the final financial statements for the year ended 10/31/2010 and highlighted several minor changes to the figures presented at the Annual Meeting. The 2010 Financial Statements were approved by the board. Property Managers Report - Adams was absent Administrative Secretary Report - Johnson reports the annual NSA Dues and Fees Invoice will be sent out next week. Member / Guest Forum - No discussion Old Business: - No report Board Member Reports: Secretary none Treasurer - Mosley reminded everyone that the bi-annual boat inventory mandated by Reno County will be conducted on January 1 st at 10:00 AM. This inventory will identify each boat (whether covered or uncovered) on the premises of NSA property. - Mosley also provided each board member a copy of the prior 6 years financial results to assist them in preparing their individual budgets to be discussed and finalized at the January 2011 board meeting. Yardmaster - Gronniger reports the sewing machine ad was placed in the Mainsheet and we have already received a few bids. - Dale reminds all members to regularly check their boats, trailer tie downs, and tarps over the winter. The strong Kansas winds tend to destroy poor quality tarps which then flap in the wind and damage boats. - Please lock the gates when you are the last one out of the yard Harbormaster Report - Vetter reports he called eleven members on C, D, and E docks and requested they remove their boats from the water or move them to A or B dock for the winter. Operations Report - Randle reports he will ask Ryan Gronniger to send out a rapid hub as a last reminder of the upcoming Christmas party. The last event of the year will be the New Year s party. - He updated the board regarding the online store. He had anticipated it would be up and running by the annual meeting however the vendor has not built the website yet but anticipates it soon. The board recommended that Randal give the vendor a deadline to have the site up and working or we look for another vendor. Vice Commodore - Cheatum had no report. Past Commodore - Olsen reports the scheduled Boy Scout camp out was successful. Commodore Elect - Kramer reports they are waiting on improved weather to complete pouring of a concrete wall on the public boat dock. NSA performs this work to honor the agreement between NSA and the State that we will maintain these structures thus providing the public safe and enjoyable access to the lake. New Business: - There was some discussion about having some of the webpages updated such as the names of newly elected board members. - NSA will be having an ADA study conducted in the near future. - The property manager s contract was discussed. 3 From the Harbormaster - Wetslip Use In the Winter: Sadly, another prime sailing season is coming to an end. After a slow start getting the boats in the slips due to the high water, this summer produced some fine sailing days. With winter approaching, I feel it is necessary to remind all sailors with boats in the slips of the following: Slip plumbing will soon be disconnected and winterized. Do not reconnect the plumbing as this may allow the water to freeze and plumbing to burst. All garden hoses should be removed from the docks or they will be discarded. The pressure washer by the crane will remain in service through the winter, but the user should bring a gallon of low-toxic engine antifreeze (not the pink kind) and know how to winterize the sprayer. When freezing temperatures arrive, call the Property Manager if you plan to use the sprayer. Failure to correctly winterize the sprayer may cause damage by freezing water internally. The restrooms east of the Afterdeck will soon be locked for the winter. The pit toilet toward the shelter house will remain open. Whether your boat is in the slip or the boatyard, do not use unattended heaters, secure all halyards away from masts, remove the sails, and clear the cockpit drains. If your boat is left in the water, double your dock lines, check your boat every two weeks, and notify the Harbormaster if you are going to use a de-icer. It will need to have an operating thermostat and a fee will be charged to cover the cost of electricity for the equipment. After December 15 th, all boats are to be removed from C, D, and E docks and berthed on A or B docks for the winter. Failure to relocate the boats will require the Harbormaster to do so and a fee will be charged for the activity. From the Yardmaster: Have you checked your boat LATELY? It has been WINDY! -Are your tie down lines rotted or worn? - Is your tarp or cover secure? Was it one of those cheap ones? - Are your halyards and lines tied off to avoid damage to your equipment? - Are your cockpit drains clear? During the off season please remember you are still required to check your boat at least every two weeks, make sure the tires have air and your equipment can be moved in the event of an emergency. Boats need to be secured to the trailer and securely tied down to the provided concrete anchors. The doggy style anchors will not hold in the storms we get here, and will kill our mowers. Please check your lines, halyards and covers, the wind can quickly destroy your equipment, or you can damage someone else's. When you leave make sure all gates, buildings, and doors are closed and locked. Please take any used batteries, oil, tires or junk with you.
