6 American Meter Series and 000 Worker/Monitor Regulators Worker/Monitor sets are commonly used to provide overpressure protection. A worker/monitor installation consists of a monitor with an external static connection and a worker with an internal static connection. The regulator selected to be the monitor is set at " to 5" w.c. above the worker. The external static connection is connected at a point free of turbulence and preferably a minimum of five pipe diameters downstream. Improved Features and 000 Series Monitor Conversion American Meter offers four industrial monitor regulators the 80M, 00M, 88M and 08M. Design improvements now enable all models to be configured as Monitor Regulators. This change was effective with all and 000 Series Regulators manufactured after January 994. The advantage is that two models of the same regulator need not be stocked. All models are pre-machined to accept a monitor conversion kit. Refer to IMP 8740 for kit numbers and installation instructions. When a regulator with an OPSO is converted to a monitor, a sense line must extend downstream of the worker, as shown in the diagram to the right. 7 The American Meter Industrial Regulator Monitor Conversion The body and valve head are premachined to allow easy conversion to a monitor model. See page for more information. Rugged Construction Valve heads are ductile iron which prevents thread damage. Available as -/" and " screwed, and " flanged connections. ANSI, BSP and DIN connections available. Springs The Series spring ranges from.5" w.c. to 5 psi outlet pressure. 000 Series spring ranges from / psi to 5 psi outlet pressure. See page. Interchangeable Available in sizes from /4" through -/4" for a wide range of flow rates. One orifice is offered for both standard and OPSO models to minimize spare-parts inventory. OPSO Overpressure Shutoff for positive protection of public buildings such as schools, churches, etc. See page 5. Maintenance Three setscrews hold diaphragm case to the valve head, providing the easiest orifice and seat disc inspection in the industry. 11 C and C-HC Series Service Regulators 0 Elster American Meter The C Series pressure regulators are designed to control natural gas, air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane vapor, and other non-corrosive gases in residential, light commercial, and small industrial applications. General Information Outlet pressures between.5" W.C. and PSIG are available. Operating temperature range is -0 F to 50 F (-0 C to 65 C). Maximum flow rate is SCFH (70.8 m /h). All models conform to ANSI Code B , and CGA Service-Type Regulator Specification CAN/CGA-6.8-M95. Features Variety of interchangeable orifices and spring ranges 90 Degree (Right Angle), 80 Degree (Straight-Flow), or Offset Valve Body (See photo below) Wide range of valve body connection sizes Options Vent Elbow The regulator vent opening should face downward (6 o'clock) to minimize the chance of blockage from ice and snow. If not possible, a /4" NPT plastic, 90 vent elbow (part number 7804P05) and separate protective screen (part number 70400P07) may be screwed into the vent to provide the necessary protection. Elevation Compensation The E.C. orifice is recommended for installations where the inlet pressure may vary over a wide range. The E.C. orifice is available in two sizes: /8" x /6" and /6". The capacities of these orifices are the same as the standard orifice of the same size. Full Capacity Relief Valve Full capacity internal relief valve standard on all models. (See Performance Graphs on page 9) Splashguards UV stabilized, weather-resistant, resin device that protects the vent screen from Applications Model Number 8C 8C-HC 84C 84C-HC 85C w/ USSA 85C-HC w/ USSA splashes while providing a large external vent opening to keep regulators working properly. Safety Shutoff Devices Overpressure Shutoff (OPSO) Operates independently. The OPSO will shut off the gas supply in the event of a serious downstream pressure build-up. These are available in two pressure ranges on the Models 84C and 84C-HC. Spring Range Part Number 4" W.C. to 5" W.C. 740P005 PSIG to / PSIG 740P004 When the outlet pressure exceeds the OPSO set point, the pressure under the OPSO diaphragm (A) compresses the pressure spring (B) forcing the diaphragm stem (E) upwards and releasing plunger (D). This permits the shut-off spring (F) to force the shut-off disc (G) against the back side of the special double-ended orifice. 21 C and C-HC Series Service Regulators 0 Elster American Meter The C Series pressure regulators are designed to control natural gas, air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane vapor, and other non-corrosive gases in residential, light commercial, and small industrial applications. General Information Outlet pressures between.5" W.C. and PSIG are available. Operating temperature range is -0 F to 50 F (-0 C to 65 C). Maximum flow rate is SCFH (70.8 m /h). All models conform to ANSI Code B , and CGA Service-Type Regulator Specification CAN/CGA-6.8-M95. Features Variety of interchangeable orifices and spring ranges 90 Degree (Right Angle), 80 Degree (Straight-Flow), or Offset Valve Body (See photo below) Wide range of valve body connection sizes Options Vent Elbow The regulator vent opening should face downward (6 o'clock) to minimize the chance of blockage from ice and snow. If not possible, a /4" NPT plastic, 90 vent elbow (part number 7804P05) and separate protective screen (part number 70400P07) may be screwed into the vent to provide the necessary protection. Elevation Compensation The E.C. orifice is recommended for installations where the inlet pressure may vary over a wide range. The E.C. orifice is available in two sizes: /8" x /6" and /6". 27 C and C-HC Series Service Regulators 0 Elster American Meter The C Series pressure regulators are designed to control natural gas, air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane vapor, and other non-corrosive gases in residential, light commercial, and small industrial applications. General Information Outlet pressures between.5" W.C. and PSIG are available. Operating temperature range is -0 F to 50 F (-0 C to 65 C). Maximum flow rate is SCFH (70.8 m /h). All models conform to ANSI Code B , and CGA Service-Type Regulator Specification CAN/CGA-6.8-M95. Features Variety of interchangeable orifices and spring ranges 90 Degree (Right Angle), 80 Degree (Straight-Flow), or Offset Valve Body (See photo below) Wide range of valve body connection sizes Options Vent Elbow The regulator vent opening should face downward (6 o'clock) to minimize the chance of blockage from ice and snow. If not possible, a /4" NPT plastic, 90 vent elbow (part number 7804P05) and separate protective screen (part number 70400P07) may be screwed into the vent to provide the necessary protection. Elevation Compensation The E.C. orifice is recommended for installations where the inlet pressure may vary over a wide range. The E.C. orifice is available in two sizes: /8" x /6" and /6". The capacities of these orifices are the same as the standard orifice of the same size. Full Capacity Relief Valve Full capacity internal relief valve standard on all models. (See Performance Graphs on page 9) Splashguards UV stabilized, weather-resistant, resin device that protects the vent screen from Applications Model Number 8C 8C-HC 84C 84C-HC 85C w/ USSA 85C-HC w/ USSA splashes while providing a large external vent opening to keep regulators working properly. Safety Shutoff Devices Overpressure Shutoff (OPSO) Operates independently. The OPSO will shut off the gas supply in the event of a serious downstream pressure build-up. These are available in two pressure ranges on the Models 84C and 84C-HC. 36 General Information The Series B ROOTS meter is a positive displacement, rotary type gas meter designed for continuously measuring and indicating the accurate measurement of gas. ROOTS meters are suitable for handling most types of clean, dry, common gases at either constant or varying flow rates. Meters of standard construction are not directly suitable for handling acetylene, biogas or sewage gas. Contact the factory for information on specially constructed meters made of materials more compatible with these and other gases. Volumetric accuracy of the ROOTS meter is permanent, non-adjustable, and is not affected by low or varying line pressure. Series B meters may be used satisfactorily for pressures ranging from a few ounces to full Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP).
