1 DEPA Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps Series M Type DL Cast Metal Pumps DEPA air operated diaphragm pumps made of cast metal are the best suitable solution for most industrial applications. Many years experience in the design and manufacture of air operated diaphragm pumps have resulted in these high performance units. Because of their compact, lightweight construction, they are well suited to portable and mobile applications as well as fixed installation in process plants. All types of fluids from water to slurries and pastes, including abrasive or shear sensitive media containing solids, are handled cost effectively by these pumps. 2 DEPA Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps Series M Type DL Cast Metal Pumps Series M Type DL Operating Principle Discharge Double acting, positive displacement Series M pumps operate with two alternating pumping chambers. The compressed air which drives the unit is admitted through a control valve, to the rear of each diaphragm in turn, so displacing the medium from alternate pumping chambers. In the pump illustrated, the right hand pumping chamber is in the intake position. A vacuum has been created by the retraction of the diaphragm and the pumped medium flows into the chamber. The left hand diaphragm, which is supported by compressed air, simultaneously displaces the medium present in this chamber. 7 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Series M High Pressure Type DB for Delivery Pressures up to bar Ideal for closed delivery (dead head) applications or where air pressure is abnormally low. DEPA air driven diaphragm pumps provide a cost saving solution for dead head applications since they require no costly controls. Due to the pressure compensation between the air and product sides, the pump simply stops working in these conditions, without generating heat, wear or leakage. Thanks to these features, DEPA air driven diaphragm pumps have been widely used for filter press feeding duties for many years. Standard Series M models already achieve 6.5 bar filter pressure with an applied air pressure of 7 bar. Many operators want still higher pressures for greater filter press efficiency and the DB High Pressure version of the DEPA Series M air operated diaphragm pumps has been developed to fulfil this requirement. These pumps can achieve a delivery pressure of bar with a driving air pressure of 6 bar. 8 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Operating Principle of the Type DB High Pressure Range DEPA Series M pumps deliver the pumped medium alternately via two pump chambers. In this case, driving air enters through the control valve at the rear of the corresponding diaphragm in operation, so displacing the medium from alternate pump chambers. The pressure multiplier increases the pressure of the incoming air. With an air supply pressure of 6 bar, a maximum pumping pressure of bar can be attained. 11 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Series DP 5-5 Powder Pumps DEPA Series DP pumps are manufactured in three sizes, in a variety of materials such as polished stainless steel, aluminium and cast iron, to suit a variety of applications for powder conveying. These pumps employ the well established operating principle of DEPA air operated diaphragm pumps. The DP5 model, with a flow rate up to 4 kg/h, is the largest air operated diaphragm pump in the world. In developing the optimum DEPA pump to fulfil the requirements of powder transfer, the suction and discharge manifolds of the DP Series have been designed with a Y configuration in order to minimise bends and curves and provide as smooth a flowpath as possible. This arrangement takes up more space than the standard DEPA manifold design but makes a dramatic improvement to the flow characteristics of the powder through the pump. All DP Series pumps have connections that allow fluidising equipment such as aeration valves to be used. When pumping product from open containers, a suction lance is normally attached to the suction hose to allow fluidisation of the product. To ensure long term dependable operation, the product should be properly fluidised. Granules or crystalline media can only be pumped under certain conditions please check with your DEPA supplier. Bulk density of the powder must not exceed 5 gm/l and the particle size must be under µ (microns). The values given are for guidance only. Under some circumstances, if special precautions are taken, they can be exceeded. Reliable Operation On the suction side, DEPA Series DP air operated diaphragm pumps operate in principle like vacuum cleaners. Then, the product enters the suction chamber and is discharged on the next stroke. DEPA powder pumps are portable and mobile. Low product velocities, compared with other methods of powder pumping, result in gentle product handling. Lower cost and more efficient powder transfer than mechanical methods. 13 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Series P Type DL Non metallic pumps For use with corrosive and abrasive media in chemical processing, electroplating, effluent treatment and similarly arduous applications. DEPA Series P pumps with solid, non metallic components have been developed to transfer a wide span of corrosive liquids, slurries, pastes and sludges for which pumps of metal construction fail to offer the necessary chemical resistance. The pump housings are machined from solid Polypropylene (PP) or Polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE). The elaborate manufacturing process involved ensures the highest possible stability of form and thus the pumping pressure capability is maintained in line with standard DEPA cast metal pump versions. In addition, the solid PP and PTFE form also provides complete external resistance to corrosive environments. Choice of correspondingly stable, corrosion resistant materials is available for the diaphragms, valve balls and valve seats. See page. These pumps can be supplied with connecting flanges conforming to DIN as well as ANSI standards. An electrically conductive plastic pump build also allows transfer of non conductive media in explosive and/or hazardous areas. 17 DEPA Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps Series P Plastic Pumps Type DL5-PM, DL5-PM, DL4-PM The new pump generation PM is a further development of DEPA s proven and successful polypropylene pumps series. The development offers a combination of modern industrial design combined with the daily requirements of pumps, like temperature, chemical resistance and high mechanical strength. The computer-aided design of the injection moulding achieves a consistant high quality with excellent surface finish for low flow resistance and good abrasion resistance. The result of the new design offers a strong and compact type of construction. These new DEPA pumps have all the advantages of Air Operated Diaphragm pumps, dry running, selfpriming, gentle product handling and the ability to stall against closed discharge lines. Various options allow a wide variety of applications for the pumps. Internal and external air valves, ANSI, DIN and JIS flanges and screw connections are available. 21 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Series L Type DH Highly Polished Stainless Steel Pumps (USDA Approved) For hygienic pumping duties throughout food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and cosmetic manufacturing processes. DEPA Series L, Type DH Pumps are suitable for chemical cleaning in place (CIP) or steam sterilisation in place (SIP). They are designed for transfer of abrasive, viscous or shear sensitive media, including products with entrained solids and require minimal maintenance. Because of the low shear, positive displacement pumping action, delicate products including entire chunks of fruit, vegetables and meat can be transported without damage. This gentle action also avoids excessive wear on pump internal components. These pumps use oilfree air and require no oil or grease lubrication, so obviating any risk of product contamination by lubricants. Incorporation of the widely used, threaded milk connections (DIN 85) ensures that the pumps can be quickly and easily dismantled for visual inspection. Choice can be made from a variety of construction materials for the internal diaphragms and valve balls, to meet exact requirements. See page. DEPA Series L Type DH pumps are manufactured in four sizes with connections: DIN5 to DN5. The option of DIN 85 Tri-clamp, SMS etc., is also available. Standard design Overall corrosion resistant construction incorporates all metallic, product wetted parts in 6 stainless steel. 22 DEPA Air Driven Diaphragm Pumps Series L Type DH Operating Principle Double acting, positive displacement Series L pumps operate with two alternating pumping chambers. The compressed air which drives the unit is admitted through a control valve to the rear of each diaphragm in turn, so displacing the medium from alternate pumping chambers. In the pump illustrated, the left hand pumping chamber is in the intake position. A vacuum has been created by the retraction of the diaphragm and the pumped medium flows into the chamber. The right hand diaphragm, which is supported by compressed air, simultaneously displaces the medium present in this chamber. Since the two diaphragms are connected by a common piston rod, suction always occurs in one chamber whilst discharge is occurring in the other.
