3 PROGRAM DIT prepares you to meet and exceed the expectations of the commercial diving industry by focusing on team success. You ll develop skills in leadership and support roles, learn industry best practices for safety, and participate in cooperative decision-making. 7 Months 900-Hour Program Each segment of the course builds on the previous months topics to prepare you to excel in the industry. MONTH 1 PHYSICS & MEDICINE These subjects form the basis of everything the diver will encounter from depth & pressure to the gas laws that affect the diver. Decompression tables, charting, and chamber operations are a few of the tools you will use every day to ensure you and your team s safety. MONTH 2 MONTH 3 LIGHTWEIGHT & RIGGING OFFSHORE & HAZMAT MONTH 4 UNDERWATER WELDING & BURNING Get familiar with your surfacesupplied diving gear and procedures before making your first dives down to 20 fsw. Then you ll earn your API Qualified Rigger card after learning the basics of rigging from vocabulary to actual hands on techniques. Your new skills are put to the test on midwater projects at depths to 40 fsw. With an emphasis on dive planning, teamwork, and safety, you ll incorporate tools, pipeline and HazMat training into your daily class activities. Practice laying beads topside then test your welds during observed tank dives. Cut steel topside before tackling open water burning projects using Broco rods that burn at up to 10,000 degrees. You ll also learn inspection techniques of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). MONTH 5 MONTH 6 MONTH 7 HYDRAULICS & SALVAGE SCUBA & INLAND DEEP DIVES 1 You ll accomplish projects with underwater chainsaws, jackhammers, impact wrenches and hull scrubbers. Then plan and achieve the salvage of a 26 steel boat as a team project to apply Salvage Theory to Practical Salvage Diving. You ll begin with Pool and Open Water training for your NAUI SCUBA certification. Then you ll practice Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection methods during surfacesupplied dives while getting oriented to the routines of inland diving operations. Now you ll put everything together during open water dives to 165 fsw in Lake Washington. Conduct low visablity dives while employing Surface Decompression procedures. Finish with Mixed Gas Theory, Job Placement, and Finals before beginning your diving career! 2

6 CERTIFICATIONS LIST Your certifications show your competence in the different skills required in the dive industry. DIT s certifications will provide you with the broadest range of employment opportunities. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Unrestricted Surface Supplied Air Diver issued by the Divers Certification Board of Canada (DCBC) This certification allows you to work globally. It opens up international job opportunities and world travel. Qualified Rigger API RP2D (REV-7) This shows you have a working knowledge of rigging techniques and procedures that you ll use daily throughout your diving career. Kirby Morgan Hat Operator You will gain an operational knowledge of maintenance requirements for your critical life support systems provided by Kirby Morgan. First Aid, CPR, AED, BVM, and Oxygen Provider Association of Dive Contractors International (ADCI) Entry Level Tender/Diver This certification allows you to obtain dive jobs in the U.S. market as well as in countries which recognize the ADCI certification. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Certificate You ll learn how to analyze operational hazards, and provide mitigating techniques or procedures to ensure all operations are conducted safely. National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) Open Water SCUBA SCUBA is a requisite skill toward attaining international certification with DCBC. As a bonus you ll have this life-long certification to enjoy exotic and interesting dive sites. Safety first! All commercial divers are required to maintain up-to-date versions of these certifications to ensure job site safety. Level I Liquid Penetrant Testing (NDT) & Level II Magnetic Particle Testing (NDT) Initial Training Certificates The comprehensive training I received at DIT prepared me for a career in the inland or offshore sectors, and in my current position I still rely heavily on the knowledge I gained there to make diving-related decisions. The staff took a genuine interest in my successful completion of the program, and they still take an interest in my career. These certificates qualify you to perform basic NDT inspections in various sectors of the industry. Hazardous Waste Materials (HazMat) 40-hour OSHA 29 CFR and WAC 80-hour HAZWOPER As a diver you may elect to take jobs where you ll handle toxic waste or hazardous materials on, around, or in the water. 10 ADMISSIONS DIT s team is here to support you as you embark on this adventure. You ll have a dedicated Admissions, Financial Aid and Veterans Service team to assist you with any questions you have about the program. REQUIREMENTS 18 years of age or older upon graduation of program High school diploma, transcript or GED Proficient in English speaking, reading and writing Able to pass an ADCI dive physical Ability to swim 400 meters unassisted Ability to obtain a TWIC card Prior dive experience is not required. Applicants should be experienced swimmers and be comfortable in the water. Ideal candidates have a positive attitude, a high mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment.
