1 SLUDGE MANAGEMENT REPORT PREPARED FOR WASTE WATER TREATMENT LAGOONS CELL # 1, CELL # 2, AND CELL # 3 Submitted by Robert Risley 04/06/2011
2 Facility Evaluation On April 6, 2011 Water Treat Technology representatives Bob Roland and I met with XXXX to conduct a sludge survey at the XXXXX location at Cell # 1, Cell # 2 and Cell # 3. The purpose of this survey was to explore and document the accumulation of the sludge deposits in the lagoon system over the past six months since our last sludge study. The approximate start date of the waste release to the cell was January 15, Analysis has an average of 1.16 feet of sludge blanket. The previous survey done at had an average depth of.95 feet of sludge. This is an increase of.21 feet in sludge depth. Sludge depths range from.5 to 1.91 feet deep. Graph 1 of shows the impacted areas in an illustrated view. The graph has been magnified as a visual aid to express the accumulation in these areas. Graph 2 of is a truer representation showing of a pictorial view of the sludge bottom based on the data collected. Cell # 2 has an average depth of.70 feet of sludge blanket. The previous survey done at Cell # 2 had an average depth of.51 feet in sludge depth. This is an increase of.19 feet of sludge. The sludge depths ranged from 0.5 to 1.0 feet deep. Cell # 3 has an average depth of.83 feet of sludge blanket. The previous survey done at Cell # 3 had an average depth of.61 feet in sludge depth. The sludge blanket increased.22 from the previous survey. The attached data sheets will show the areas surveyed.
3 Recommendations Lagoons are very economical and efficient wastewater treatment systems. These systems are very forgiving methods of operations, if maintained properly. Lagoons are biological systems that depend on microorganisms to reduce the waste they incur., has had a 22% increase in the sludge blanket due to increase in loading and flow. Bioaugmentation treatment will have to be increased to meet increased production. My recommendation is to continue the augmenting treatment that was used over the past 6 months with the exception of using the Bio-Buff, we will begin using the Breakdown product to stimulate the biomass. Cell # 2, there has been a 37% increase in the sludge blanket, if the steps above are applied, the second cell will also benefit. The increased bioaugmentation and nutrients will be beneficial in reducing the sludge build up. Cell # 3, the sludge blanket had a increase of 36%, I think that if the other 2 Cells are maintained, the nutrients and microorganisms will migrate into Cell # 3 and will naturally assist in sludge reduction. In summary, the lagoon system will significantly improved by adding more micronutrients and select microbes. The microbial activity has managed to reduce the organic loading from the plants while continuing to reduce the sludge blankets. The increase in sludge blanket could be explained by the increase in production and lagoon loading. Bioaugmentation and nutrients addition is the key to proper sludge management. The mentioned regiment over the next six months should insure success for future sludge reduction. Sincerely Robert Risley
