The Model 2000 groomer and 1643RE are available with both front windshield and side windows heated, the Model 2000XL is just the front windshield at this time. The front engine models will be next. Heated glass does a good job of keeping the glass from fogging up, which is a challenge with all over-snow vehicles. This option will likely replace thermal glass and can be turned on with the flip of a switch on the dash. Please contact your appropriate dealer for additional information and pricing. 2 This month Sterling Says We often hear about the transfer cases in the 2000XLs being a little noisy and running hot. This is especially true for customers who are not acquainted with these units or who have been out of the seat for a season. In some early units we used A.T.F. and while this works well we later converted all of our transfer cases to AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Gear Lube. This lube is thicker which helps quiet the gear box and it handles the heat better than A.T.F. The 2000XL transfer case only holds 1.5 to 1.75 quarts of fluid and they do build heat, if you feel your unit is getting hotter than 180 degrees then lowering your ground speed by 2-3 M.P.H. will help. Using a digital heat temp gun periodically will tell you the temperature range. Also be sure to check your fluid level if you are ever in doubt about heat or noise. On some units that return for summer service we notice the Sno-Cat vehicles are secured to the trailer by going around the main frame, while this may secure the load it also puts a great strain on the leaf springs and can actually flatten them out. We do recommend using the carrier stops as a tie-off point, but remember not to use too much force because they can be bent. If you notice paint cracking around your tie-off point then it is too tight. When greasing your Sno-Cat vehicle remember if your wheels have aluminum hub caps, a couple pumps every 6 months is sufficient because too much pressure will push out the rear seal. If you notice your unit is not tracking properly while going down the trail check the tie rods and if nothing is bent then a simple measurement from the front 5th wheel plate to the rear of the frame left and right can determine your straight point. 4 This photo was taken sometime in , probably in the spring after testing in the higher elevation snow. Emmitt Sr. and his three sons; Jasper, Morris, and Emmitt Jr. are pictured along with another person in the local mountains. Up until this time the Tucker Sno-Cat had two tracks on the rear and skis on the front, which provided the steering. Pictured inside the skis is the wheel kit which came into play when crossing a surface that was not covered in snow, as seen above. The prototype DOUBLE DRIVE completely changed the way the Sno-Cat steered and increased the flotation from increased track area. 5 Meet Mike Bullard.Mike was recently hired to help in the Research and Development section of the Engineering Department. He has an Associates Applied Science in Manufacturing Engineering Degree and along with his mastery of CAD software he has been a big help to R&D section. Mike spent 22 years in the furniture design market where he honed his skills on CAD. He is a Southern Oregon native and married with grown children. Mike s hobbies include building things; built his own C&C router table, likes to weld, fabricate, and has a hobby machine shop. When spare time permits he also likes to ride on the sand dunes, and hunt. (oh yes and he also teaches a class on Inventor software at the local community college!) Page 5 of 5
