Selling Dalbello Skiboots Understanding your customers skiboot needs Selecting the appropriate ski boot for each customer is challenging. The more you know about your customers; their skill level, level of physical fitness, feet type, physical attributes, prior boot fitting problems, general knowledge of ski equipment, commitment to the sport, future goals, etc., the easier, faster, and more efficiently it will be for you to choose a suitable ski boot for them. Start by learning as much as you can about your customers: Ask questions about their skiing skills: 1. How well do you ski?. Where do you ski and how many days per year do you ski?. Do you ski fast? Moderate speeds? Slow?. Which types of terrain do you prefer? Groomed, Powder, Hardpack, Moguls, Off Piste, Park & Pipe? 5. Do you, or will you, take ski lessons? Ask questions about their ski equipment: 1. What kind of boots do you presently use? How old are they?. Why are you shopping for new ski boots?. What kind of skis do you presently use? Probe for additional information 1. Do you have problems with your feet?. Do you have problems buying other kinds of footwear?. Are you athletic? Do you participate in other sports?. How much money do you plan to spend on new ski boots? 5. Do you use orthotics or custom insoles? Measure and observe your customer's feet and lower legs to determine: Foot length: Measure both feet Foot width: narrow, average, or wide? Instep height: High/Average/Low? Arch: Average Height/Flat Foot? Calf width? Thin, Average, Large, Extra Large? Are there any protruding bones or bone spurs? Advice from the professionals Following are some simple tips to help you develop and improve your skills as a professional bootfitter/boot seller. Conducting yourself professionally in front of your customers is a very positive reflection on you and your expertise, as well as on the quality and professionalism of your store. Skier's prefer to do business with professionals. Know your inventory Familiarize yourself every ski boot brand and model sold by your store. Know which boot models are best suited for different skier types and foot shapes. Before you recommend a particular ski boot model and size, be sure you know that it is in your store's inventory. Limit the number of ski boot models you recommend Customers become confused when, in their selection process, they try on too many ski boots. You will most likely close the sale if you limit the number of ski boot models you recommend to or MAIMUM.

Advice from the professionals Make sure the size you have selected is correct The most important service you can perform for your customer is to make sure you select and sell that customer the correct size ski boot for his/her foot. It is estimated that 60% of all ski boots sold are between 1 - sizes TOO BIG!!! Boots that are too big do not provide the proper support for responsiveness and control. The innerboot materials have a tendency to break down (compress) very quickly due to the excess foot movement within the boot. Boots that are too big must be buckled tighter than boots that fit correctly. "Overtightening" produces uncomfortable, aching, cold feet. Make sure your customer is wearing the appropriate ski sock Ski socks should be light to medium weight, wrinkle free, and, ideally, a woven blend of synthetic and/or natural fibers. They are designed to wick moisture away from the skin in order to keep the foot dry and warm. Socks should fit snugly and comfortably around the foot and over the leg calf. Most skiers find that ski boots fit better and are warmer when they are warn with only one ski sock. Describe to your customer how a new ski boot should feel You should prepare your customer for what he/she is about to feel BEFORE the ski boot is tried on. New ski boots should feel comfortable and snug. When the knee is flexed forward, your heel should stay in the heel pocket of the boot. It is normal to feel the front of the boot when standing upright, but the toes will pull back when the boot is buckled and the knee is flexed forward. The multi density foam fit materials in Dalbello boots are sensitive to body heat and pressure from the foot contours. They will conform to the foot after the boot has been on the foot for 5-7 minutes. If a minor pressure point is initially felt, it will usually disappear within that time. The foot should be held firmly without the need to tighten the buckles excessively. A good fit should originate from the shape of the boot matching the shape of the foot. For TRUFIT model fitting, refer to page 6, "TRUFIT Custom Fit System Procedures". Explain how all features, adjustments, and mechanisms function Make sure you take the time to fit both boots to your customer. Use the time you have to explain the buckle adjustments, and other personalization mechanisms (forward lean, flex control, walk/ski, canting, etc.) Try to answer your customer's questions with simple explanations. Explain how ski boots should be cared for Be sure to avoid walking excessively on hard or abrasive surfaces in ski boots. Otherwise, damage to the bootsole can occur over time. Ski Boots should be cleaned ONLY with water and a mild detergent. Cleaning with other chemicals can damage the boot. Dry the boots after each use. If excessively wet inside, the innerboots may be removed for faster drying. Avoid drying boots near radiators, fireplaces, microwave ovens, or any other sources of direct or excessive (above 5 C/110 F) heat. Explain how ski boots should be stored at the end of the season Make sure the entire ski boot is clean and dry...inside and out. Over a long period of time, moisture contained in the innerboots can become a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and other kinds of bacteria. Remove the liner. Clean it and dry it. Put it back into the shell making sure that it is inserted correctly, and that the tongue is not twisted. Buckle the boots up with buckles under loose tension. Close the Velcro powerstrap (loosely). This will keep the shell plastic in the proper alignment to close around your foot and lower leg the next time you wear the boots. Store the boots in a cool, dry, and dark place. Do not leave them in a place where small animals or insects may be able to nest in them.

Before you start FIT SYSTEM PROCEDURE & GUIDELINES For your own safety, before you use the Therm-IC FITSYSTEM, make sure you thoroughly read and understand the instructions manual accompanying the device and follow all the recommended procedures. To insure that heating temperatures and times are correct and consistent for TRUFIT Custom Fit boot models, we recommend ONLY the Therm-IC FITSYSTEM heating device, or the INTEC LH- Heat Machine. DO NOT USE: OVENS, HEAT GUNS, HAIR DRYERS, or FORCED HOT AIR SYSTEMS not designed for TRUFIT boots, as they may damage the innerboot materials. Dalbello assumes no responsibility for damage to TRUFIT innerboots caused by improper heating, or heating with equipment not recommended by Dalbello. ANY HEATING PROCEDURES PERFORMED ON TRUFIT BOOTS WITH HEATING EQUIPMENT OTHER THAN THAT RECOMMENDED BY DALBELLO IS PERFORMED AT THE SHOP'S OWN RISK. Overview of TRUFIT Heating Procedure 1. The procedure you are about to perform will require approximately 0 minutes time from start to finish.. The Therm-IC FITSYSTEM Heating Device warms the ULTEVA foam material inside the innerboot to the appropriate temperature for custom forming around the contours of the customer's foot.. Though the boot feels hot to touch, there is no discomfort and no physical danger.. After the boots have finished their heating cycle, you have approximately 1 - minutes to put the boots on the customer's feet. 5. ULTEVA foam molds to the foot and then cools very quickly. After standing in the boots and flexing gently for 5-6 minutes, the TRUFIT fitting procedure will be finished. TRUFIT boots are ready for skiing immediately after the procedure has been finished. 6. In case of a mistake or problem during heating or fitting, it is possible to repeat the heating procedure up to times. Therm-IC Fitsystem Operation The Therm-IC FITSYSTEM features two conical air flow tubes that direct the warm air into the ski boot. The air flow tubes may be rotated 60 around the the main electrical casing unit and, the tubes are designed to stop at 90 intervals. Do not attempt to "spread open" the air flow tubes. When rotating, make sure the tubes are parallel to the main electrical casing unit. 1. Plug in the power cord.. Place ski boots on a horizontal surface (NOTE: it is NOT necessary to remove the innerboots or the innersoles from the innerboots for this procedure. Position the air flow tubes in the ski boots (as shown in photo) so that the air flow tube cones are seated as deeply into the boot as possible. Gently close the buckles on the boot cuff to hold the air flow tubes in place. Make sure that the air intake holes (visible hole on the top of the air flow tube cone) are not blocked, covered, or in any other way obstructed.. Switch on the device (I = on, 0 = off). Select HEAT SETTING - The Therm-IC FITSYSTEM features two programmed heat/time cycles. HEAT SETTING is a 15 minute "high heat" cycle used for TRUFIT models. This setting is activated by pressing the RED button which illuminates a RED LIGHT during the cycle. HEAT SETTING 1 is a 10 minute "warm/dry" cycle functioning at a lower temperature. It is activated by pressing the YELLOW button which illuminates an ORANGE LIGHT during the cycle. HEAT SETTING 1 will NOT activate the thermomolding properties of TRUFIT innerboots. Dalbello assumes no responsibility for damage to ski boots caused by improper use of the Therm-IC FITSYSTEM. 5. Do not leave the Therm-IC FITSYSTEM unsupervised during the heating procedure. 6. After the heating cycle ends a 10 second series of "beeps" will sound and the heat supply and circulating fan will automatically shut off. Switch off the device and remove the tubes from the boots. Be careful to avoid touching the tubes, as they may be hot. 7. DO NOT IMMEDIATELY REPEAT THE HEATING PROCEDURE ON THE SAME PAIR OF BOOTS. Heating Skiboots with Custom Insoles/Orthotics Dalbello innersoles need not be removed from the innerboots for the heating procedure. In the event a replacement custom insole or orthotic device will be used, the standard equipment Dalbello insole should be removed before performing the heating procedure. In order to avoid heat damage to the replacement insoles or orthotic devices, we recommend performing the TRUFIT heating proccedure without the insoles inside the innerboots. You may insert the replacement insoles into the boots immediately after the heating cycle has finished and before your customer puts on the boots. Dalbello assumes no responsibility for damage to insoles or orthotic devices due to excessive heat or other consequences of the TRUFIT thermomolding procedure. 6

HEAT SYSTEM READY CONSTRUCTION Heat System Installation All 00/00 TRUFIT innerboots feature HEAT SYSTEM READY CONSTRUCTION. Innerboots have been assembled to permit fast and easy installation of all aftermarket electronic foot warming systems that use an insole heating elements/electronic cable/external power supply design. A constructed cable exit slot placed behind the heel eliminates the need to cut a hole in the innerboot to feed the insole cable out of the boot. A vertical opening slot is constructed behind the plastic cuff support collar permitting the electronic cable to exit the boot in the correct place for easy batttery pack attachment. Boot technicians no longer need to cut, glue, or in any other way modify innerboots to install electronic foot warming systems. Installing electronic foot warming systems is a simple procedure: 1. Make sure Heat System Insole is positioned correctly in innerboot. Feed cable through constructed slot at boot heel. Make sure cable is exiting flat, without twists, folds, kinks, or bends.. Keeping the cable flat, feed vertically through the slot constructed behind the plastic cuff support collar (located directly above achilles tendon zone).. Feed the cable vertically through the exit slot constructed at the top center of the cuff support collar. Follow instructions provided by the foot warming system manufacturer for battery pack attachment and use. PRE-WIRED FOR THERM-IC HEAT (Select models in USA only) Pre-Wired Skiboots: An Overview Select 00/00 ski boot models are equipped with electronically heatable insoles. The insoles are manufactured by Dalbello using electronic heating system technology and elements under license from Therm-IC Warm Up Technologies of Austria. Boot models that are pre-wired for heat DO NOT include the Battery Packs needed to activate the heating function. Battery Packs may be purchased separately as an accessory item. Only Battery Packs manufactured by Therm-IC will fit and function with Pre-Wired Dalbello models. Therm-IC manufactures two different heat system battery packs: one requires AA batteries per pack, the second uses rechargable NiCAD batteries and is sold with a AC charging unit (Powerpack) For specific information about battery pack opearation, heat settings, powerpack charging instructions, or other Therm-IC products, contact your local Therm-IC representative, or visit Therm-IC online: Attaching the Battery Packs Make sure you read and follow all instructions included with the Therm-IC battery packs before attaching the battery packs. Battery packs feature a "loop type" wire attachment clip with a strong clamping action to hold it in place. The battery pack should never be attached to smooth, slippery surfaces (e.g. plastic ski boot shell material), as the packs may slide off and become lost. REMEMBER: The easier the battery pack slides on, the easier it may slide off. Dalbello recommends using "Therm-IC Mounting Adapter Hardware". The Mounting Adapter is a low profile attachment bracket that is mounted to the boot cuff with a nut and bolt. Battery Packs attach firmly to this bracket with minimal risk of disengaging. A second option is to clip the battery pack directly onto the boot's Velcro Powerstrap. Using Custom Insoles/Orthotics with Pre-Wired Models Custom insoles and orthotics should be fitted with Therm-IC heat system heating elements and Cambrelle insole covers. Both heat system component accessories are available from Therm-IC. Heat system insoles used in Dalbello models Pre-Wired for heat were not designed to by modified or disassembled. Dalbello does not recommend using heating elements removed from disassembled Dalbello manufactured heatable insoles with custom insoles or orthotics. The Dalbello Ski Boot Limited Warranty DOES NOT extend to insoles that have been modified, disassembled, or in any other way altered. 7

Carvex Series Sales and Technical Data Carvex Series skier profile Athletic and ambitious skiers (Freeride/"New School"/ All Mountain) seeking a highly technical boot to help them achieve a perfectly balanced fore/aft stance with precise foothold, powerful energy transmission and comfort. What are the 5 key features in Carvex boots? 1. Three Piece Overlap Shellfit Carvex models feature a unique, three piece overlap consturction - an open throat lower shell, external shell tongue assembly, and hinging cuff design. This construction wraps the foot symmetrically and has been developed to accommodate a wide variety of foot shapes (low/high instep, low/medium overall volume). The combination of the shell tongue/open thoat design provides exceptional foothold with a progressive and smooth f orward flex that functions independently of lateral and rear support.. Dynalink Rearfoot Stabilizer An independently functioning heel/instep closure strap (Dynalink Band) is fixed to the inside of the boot at the hinge rivet. On the lateral side of the boot, the buckle is mounted to the the lower boot shell instead of to the cuff. permitting the cuff to move independently of the buckle/band assembly. As the boot is flexed, foot hold is secure and lower bootshell distortion is minimized. Dynalink provides superior foothold to skiers with lower volume feet, and/or for skiers who prefer softer flexing boots that do not compromise positive foothold.. Versatility and Adjustability Originally developed for optimum performance with modern ski shapes and designs that are sensitive to a balanced stance. Carvex models permit skiers to find their perfect balance point through precise regulation of heel inclination, cuff inclination, forward flex, and shaft alignment. The most sophisticated dynamic performance personalization available on any ski boots.. Fits Medium Volume Feet Carvex models feature Dalbello's most anatomically tapered last shape and are designed to accommodate medium width feet with average pronation. 5. 13 Innovex Auto Sales and Technical Data Innovex Auto Series skier profile Recreational and sport skiers looking for performance and control with a relaxed attitude. Skiers seeking a traditional design ski boot that is easy to put on and take off, provides all day comfort and warmth, and features functional, easy to use adjustments. What are the 5 key features in Innovex Auto boots? 1. Auto Instep Easy Entry Overlap Shellfit Innovex Auto models utilize a close fitting shellfit construction that integrates a secondary set of flexible overlapping closure panels (on top of forefoot above instep zone). The lower shell structure utilizes a Hard P.U. (or Lytrel Polymer) plastic for support and energy transfer, while the Auto Instep System's soft durometer plastic "twin overlap" panels very wide to permit very easy entry and boot cloure. Boot entry is virtually hands free entry. Convenience is further enhanced by the ergonomic Walk/Ski function.. -Module Cuff Expansion Innovex Auto cuffs are modularly constructed in pieces to adapt to a wide range of lower leg sizes, shapes, and lengths. The -MODULE (plastic cuff height extension piece) insert, which is attached along the the boot cuff perimeter, may be removed to expand the boot top opening circumference. When removed, opening circumference is approximately 5 cm longer, and boot height is approximately cm lower. The -MODULE Insert should be removed ONLY if more cuff volume is required for fit or comfort, or if a lower boot cuff is desired for better performance or fit.. Special Lady's Designs Women's Innovex Auto models are specifically designed to accommodate womens unique leg and foot anatomies. All LS models feature: Low Contour Profile (LCP) innerboot and shell cuff geometries - lower rear boot height t comfortably accommodate lower and/or wider leg shapes, Narrower Innerboot Last Shapes, -Module (see above) Cuff Expansion, Microfleece Lining Textiles for warmth and comfort, and Microadjustable ramp Angle inclinator fo more precise rearfoot fit and adjusting fore/aft balance fo better skiing performance.. Fits Medium -Wide Volume Feet Innovex Auto models feature a "Relaxed Fit" last shape. Targeted for comfort and convenience, the fit is medium to wide, and developed to comfortably accommodate feet with average to above average pronation. 5. TRUFIT Custom Fit System Two (out of ) Innovex Auto models feature TRUFIT Custom Fit innerboots. TRUFIT innerboots incorporate anatomically heat moldable ULTEVA foam constructions. Different density heat moldable foams are used in different construction TRUFIT innerboots (Performer, Sport) TRUFIT innerboots are designed to fit right out of the box. Or, they may be optionally custom heat molded (see TRUFIT Fit System Procedure for more information - Page 6). 17 FAQ's: (Frequently Asked Questions) Advice from the Boot Fitting Experts Notes about ski boots that are TOO BIG 1) It is estimated that 60% of all ski boots sold are between 1 - sizes TOO BIG!!! Boots that are too big do not provide the proper support for responsiveness and control. ) The innerboot materials have a tendency to break down (compress) very quickly in boots that are too big due to the excess foot movement within the boot. ) Boots that are too big must be buckled tighter than boots that fit correctly. "Overtightening" produces uncomfortable, aching, cold feet. How can I verify that the ski boot size I have selected is correct? All Dalbello ski boots are built on the MONDOPOINT sizing scale. Mondopoint sizes can be converted to correspond closely to European, UK, and USA sizes. Check the "SKIBOOT SIZING CONVERSION CHART" on page of the Technical Manual for more information. Size numbers are, unfortunately, only a starting point for selecting the correct size. There is a commonly used method, or technique, in ski boot fitting to verify whether the ski boot size you have selected will match the foot you are trying to fit. That method is referred to as 'SHELL SIZING". Most boot fitting professionals will check "SHELL SIZING" before fitting the ski boot to the customer's foot. How do I "SHELL SIZE" a ski boot? 1) Remove the innerboot from the boot shell ) Make sure the customer is wearing the appropriate ski sock for skiing (refer to Page for further information) ) Place the customer's foot in the empty boot shell (make sure the plastic footboard remains inside the shell during this step) ) Instruct the customer to slide their toes forward inside the boot shell until their toes are gently touching the front of the shell. 5) Ask the customer to bend their knee slightly forward. You should now be able to evaluate how much space there is in the shell by determining how many fingers you can insert behind the customer's heel. 6) Recreational and low skill level skiers prefer to have a more "relaxed" fit. More volume in the shell provides a relaxed fit, and for this type of skier, you should be able to place 1½ - ½ fingers behind the heel. If you prefer a more accurate method to evaluate this, the space should be between 15 mm - 5 mm. 7) Advanced and high skill level skiers usually prefer to have a more secure, snug, "lower volume" fit. For this type of skier you will be looking to place no more than 1-1½ fingers behind the heel (approximately 10 mm). Shell sizing is a very successful way to determine correct boot size for skiers with "average" foot sizes and shapes. Obviously, there are some skiers for whom shell sizing is not the appropriate way to determine correct size: skiers with exceptionally wide feet, skiers with different size feet, skiers with bones protruding from the feet, and others. You will need to use your best judgment in those cases. 0

FAQ's: (Frequently Asked Questions) Advice from the Boot Fitting Experts How should my new Dalbello ski boots feel? 1) New ski boots should feel comfortable and snug. ) When the knee is flexed forward, your heel should stay in the heel pocket of the boot. ) It is normal to feel the front of the boot when standing upright, but the toes will pull back when the boot is buckled and the knee is flexed forward. ) The foot should be held firmly without the need to tighten the buckles excessively. 5) The foam fit materials in Dalbello boots are sensitive to body heat and pressure from the foot contours. They will conform to the foot after the boot has been on the foot for 5-7 minutes. 6) If a minor pressure point is initially felt, it will usually disappear in a short time. 7) A good fit should originate from the shape of the boot matching the shape of the foot. How can I avoid getting cold feet? 1) Make sure your boots are dry at the beginning of each ski day. Remove wet innerboots at night to dry them, but NEVER DRY INNERBOOTS ON A RADIATOR, FIREPLACE, OR ANY OTHER SOURCE OF ECESS HEAT. Consider using a boot drying appliance such as the Therm-IC Boot Dryer. ) Avoid wearing multiple pairs of socks. One pair of high performance, technical ski socks is sufficient. ) If your foot perspires excessively, change into a dry pair of socks at midday. ) Always wear clean socks. The moisture wicking function of the socks is maximized when they are clean. To keep your feet warm and dry, wear clean socks. 5) Have your boot fit checked by an expert. Too big? Too small? Pressure Points? Is the blood circulation being restricted? Consider a custom footbed or orthotic. 6) Install an electronic insole footwarmer such as the Therm-IC Footwarmer or Footwarmer Max. How should I care for my Dalbello Ski Boots? 1) Be sure to avoid walking excessively on hard or abrasive surfaces in ski boots. Otherwise, damage to the bootsole can occur over time. Check replacement toe/heel inserts regularly. If evidence of excessive abrasion or wear is present, replace the toe/heel inserts. ) Make sure all buckles are in working order. Do not ski with a boot if buckles are broken or missing. ) Ski Boots should be cleaned ONLY with water and a mild detergent. Cleaning with other chemicals can damage the boot. ) Dry the boots after each use. If excessively wet inside, the innerboots may be removed for faster drying. 5) Avoid drying boots near radiators, fireplaces, microwave ovens, or any other sources of direct or excessive (above 5 C/110 F) heat. 1
