(858) (214) It's Time to Head West! Heavenly is Waiting!!! Come Join the TEAAM! ****** THIS JUST IN!!! ****** Are Johnsen January 26 at 2:52pm For those of you worried that snow conditions are bad at Heavenly, fear not. From reports I m getting from the mountain sales office, the
fear not. From reports I m getting from the mountain sales office, the race department and Michael Williams from AA who lives across the lake, the snow is fine. Mike says from the top of the gondola and up they have great snow, below its thinner but they are running races this coming weekend and the weekend before our arrival. For racing the plan is to run both A and B SL races on World Cup on Wednesday and A and B GS races on their new race venue Stagecoach on Thursday. Don t forget to register on and book your stay with Forest Suites. I m looking forward to another great week at Heavenly and to seeing everyone... Are Johnsen NAASF President FROM YOUR PRESIDENT Ted Rutherford Greetings fellow American Airlines Ski & Snowboard Team Members. Steamboat Debrief, and Looking Forward to Heavenly What a great week in the land of Champagne Powder! I would like to thank our Room Parents: Darla Madion and Chicken Man James Tullos; thanks for making this such a wonderful NAASF meet on our home turf We missed one of our star Women s A Team Racers: Danielle Honore, as she fractured her ankle at work. God Speed Danielle in your quick and complete healing. The combined work of so many made this NAASF week a smashing success! The week started with the year-long efforts of Don Oakes and Na Stewart putting together a Bucket List trip: Steamboat Powder Cats. We had 3 full snow cats with nearly 100% NAASF skiers and boarders. The conditions in spite of the lack of large amounts of fresh snow were excellent.
These folks at Steamboat Powder Cats are Da Kine! Highly recommended for next year s Steamboat 2019 NAASF. One of the best things about the cat skiing was being crewed up with our most excellent Vice President, skier, gentleman, and all-around outstanding guy: Nathan Green! He and Julie Molano make such a great team, and we are honored to have them. There are so many things that Nathan has done to make our team a better place to be: working with various AA Corporate and fellow employee groups, VP Green secured the large inflatable tail that made it s appearance at the Snowboard, New Comer, and A-Race venues. Nathan has arranged for this inflatable tail to accompany us to Kitzbhuel for the IASF week. Ever the hard charging powder hound and adventurous soul, your VP was captured in action battling snow snakes on Mountain: Your Vice President fully charging (no snow snakes, and better yet, Nathan was not harmed!) Speaking of photos: Eric Jenson, Dennis Mellon, Steven Yates, and Cristin Campodonico took the time and effort to capture our members not only on the race course, but in all venues during the week; thank you very much for sharing your talents and time. (Most on Facebook! Ed.) We had a special guest member, and former SWA team member: Fritz Fritzatola Moyer as our color commentator (and
member: Fritz Fritzatola Moyer as our color commentator (and designated kisser for the women s awardees) for the B-Team races. FritzyBobby, as he is known was absolutely hilarious, and had not only the racers, but the Steamboat Race crews doubled up in stitches. Rocky, (NAASF VP), made a motion to make Fritz the official NAASF Race Announcer. His Royal Silliness, Fritz Moyer Our team captains, Mike Williams and Bob Antal, kept us pumped up, and ready to charge on the course. Congratulations and best wishes to Craig Watkins and our Secretary/Treasurer, Greg Gilger who have stepped up to the big time of the A-Team. Heavenly Update/Forecast: So far this winter, the Tahoe area has been blocked from the really juicy snow storms that normally provide that area with some of the deepest bases in the lower 48. That pattern is weakening, and as this is going to press, there is a Pacific Northwest storm poised to provide some badly needed Sierra Cement to the area. The long range forecast calls for significant amounts of snowfall by the end of January, and setting up a pattern of consistent snowfall throughout the beginning of February. Michael Williams is our Room Mom and a Tahoe local. He knows Tahoe. Ski/Board fast and safe, as they say in Navy: if you re not having fun, you re not doing it right And speaking of FUN... Hollie Lazzareschi is volunteering her family home Hollies Heavenly Hideaway, Sunday evening 11 Feb at 6:30 pm, for a social meet and greet. Beer and hors d oeuvres provided but you are welcome to BYOB or BYO appetizer or favorite gourmet food to share. She recommends sharing Uber because parking is somewhat limited. An
recommends sharing Uber because parking is somewhat limited. An event with her address and phone number is posted on our FaceBook page so please check it out and RSVP if you plan to attend. See you soon! Very Respectfully, Ted FROM YOUR Vice PRESIDENT Nathan Green Hello Boarders and Skiers, For those who were unable to attend the TEAAM dinner at the Ore House last week you missed a great meal and hanging out with bunch of awesome people. We also shared a few words on what your club leadership is developing. The American Airlines Ski and Snowboard club is comprised of fellow AA employees and retirees who share common interests the beautiful mountains, snow, and the passion of the winter sports. These people (YOU) are some of the most friendly, compassionate, wonderful people on the planet and we want to protect our club from ever being harmed in any way. Therefore we are moving into a direction that will give us legal protections by incorporating the club and becoming a legitimate nonprofit 501c7 organization. By incorporating, we will benefit in several areas... The club and leadership will have added protections from liability, the club will benefit by being more attractive to corporate support and possible sponsorship, and the club will become more organized and financially secure due to the 501c7 nonprofit requirements. Due to the requirements, we are putting together a leadership handbook, constitution and bylaws, and release of liability. We are hopeful to have this project completed for your approval at the Crested Butte club dinner. I look forward every season to spending time with all of you. We have a superb club with super people and your leadership is doing all we
a superb club with super people and your leadership is doing all we can to keep it that way by protecting the foundation that your amazing previous leadership has provided. Now lets all go and share a little piece of heaven at Heavenly!! See you there, NATHAN FROM YOUR "A" Team Captain Mike Williams What a way to start the season. All three teams rocked and we have a good lead so far. Louise, Rachel, Denise, Kathy, Bjorn, and KJ led the way on the A team We are gonna need some A team women to sign up for Heavenly. Right now we have no one registered. I would like to thank Eric Jensen and Dennis Mellon for taking great pictures and videos of all the racers. Look at them and try to improve on your stance, technique, or overall racing abilities. (Dennis posted a ton of videos of ALL racers. Go to your FACEBOOK page, join the "American Airlines Ski and Snowboard Club") Tahoe got a foot of snow last night (first major dump of year at lake level) and hopefully we will get more. Still skiing is average and above average up on the upper slopes. On a sadder note. One of our top women A skiers was injured Danielle Honore was injured at work and broke some bones in her foot We will miss her and hope she has a safe and speedy recovery. I m your room mom for Heavenly The Forest Suites Resorts is where we stay. Phone number We will have dinner at Harrah s at 6:30 pm. Cost is $ Pretty cheap and the buffet is scrumptious Any questions call me
Mike FROM YOUR "B" Team Captain Bob Antal WOW!!! Way to go B teamers. We had a fantastic showing across the board. Our ladies and gentlemen flew through both GS and Slalom courses with excellent results. Congratulations to Greg Gilger, winning both GS and Slalom for our men! (Best wishes to Greg as he advances to the big leagues of our A team.) Great things are happening with our B team racers. Thank you all for your outstanding efforts. As an unexpected highlight, we were graced with the amazing announcing talents of our good friend Fritz Moyer (formerly of SWA). Fritz entertained us with his own inimitable brand of skier profiles throughout the races. Heavenly at Tahoe is next. Hope to see you there. You rock team! Bob FROM YOUR Snowboard Captain Eric Bergman
Go get em Shredders! Eric has been overtaxed and unable to attend, so he asked Jim Tullos to cover for him. Jim has been undertaxed and is lost on the Mountain somewhere. I don't know anything about Snowboarding, so I went to the local grade school and ask this 7 year old kid to do the write up. Later, Ed. My name is Ryan, I like Snowborders, they ski on these fat board things and go really fast. I gess the guy with a chicken on his head went the fastest, he wun. Did the chicken help? The guy named Dennis Watermelon also went fast he almost caut the chicken man and finished #2. He seemed really happy! I like the gurl borders best, they look more pretty. That Hollie girl (with the funy last name) was the purdiest. She got 2nd, and she was my favorite. I hope I can see the races again someday. When I grow up I want to be a Snowboarder, they are the funest! Ryon FROM YOUR Uniform Co- Ordinator Jim Hershey Hi skiers and boarders.. Hope everyone had a great "off season"! Jim is working, but he related a few things to me. This will probably be your last chance to order a New Team Jacket. I think the order has to be in before March 1. So contact him if you are interested. He is also
working on many other uniform ideas...standby! Ed. Jim FROM YOUR Room Mom Mike Williams (by default) February, 2018 I m your rom mom for Heavenly The Forest suites resorts is where we stay. Phone number We will have dinner at Harrah s at 6:30 pm. Cost is $ Pretty cheap and the buffet is scrumptious!
