We have lost this year s donor for our cookout. There is interest in having the event as a pot-luck or bring your own. The main ingredient needed is a coordinator. Hopefully, someone will come forward, please! Our Consumer Confidence Report Certification was sent to the NH Department of Environmental Services. This is done yearly and required by the State of NH showing tests results of our water quality. Not every test is done each year and the most recent for copper and lead were done in 2016 and are very low. The first phase of 2017 roofing has seen the completion of 6 buildings. The second phase will be an additional 5 buildings including the Cottage and Pump House. This Fall we will begin cleaning of our septic tanks. If you are experiencing leaking faucets or toilets, please have it repaired. Our water is not free. It costs each of us over $22/month to operate and maintain our water system. Wasted water costs all of us. Our semi-annual meeting is tentatively set for 8/17 at 7PM at the Nesmith Library. We will focus on the proposed document changes related to the subsurface coverage. 2 Dear Homeowners, Note from our Management Company It s mid-summer already. The property looks great and a lot of work has been done for improvement. We could use your help to keep some costs down and make the front of the units look great. There is some painting to do at lower heights and we are looking for volunteers. There are pillars on the front of the units. At the base, the paint tends to chip away. Your help sanding this small base area and then painting would be appreciated. The other common area to paint is around the perimeter of some of the garage doors. You will notice on the base of the trim, the paint tends to wear from snow and rain weathering. These areas will need a little sanding, primer and then a finish. Ideally, we would like to paint a complete entrance (left, right and middle trim boards). We are not asking owners to do their own unit. We are asking for volunteers to go to multiple units with instructions to follow. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Ken Foley Transfer Station With the change of the administration of the Transfer Station and some reconfiguring of the current staff, the Transfer Station will be opening an additional day in the near future. When Transfer Station Manager Dave Poulson retired, instead of hiring a new administrator, the former Highway Agent Jack McCartney was offered a newly created position as the General Services Director overseeing Highway, Maintenance and the Transfer Station. Former Supervisor at the Transfer Station, Dennis Senibaldi was named the General Services Manager, under the Director. With the savings from the retirement and the new structure, the Town is in the process of hiring two new 25 hour part-time operators. This change allows the town to open the station an additional 10 hours, and still have a cost savings. No date has been announced at this time of when the station will add the additional day, but Selectmen voted to open up the Transfer Station on Tuesdays from 9 AM to until 7 PM once the new operators are on board and trained. More information will be provided when the change is ready to be implemented. It is a welcome change for many who had concerns with the gap between the station closing on Saturday and not opening again until Wednesday.

3 See the note below from our insurance carrier. The Letizio Tower, which will be donated to the town of Windham is beginning to take shape. It will be 43 feet high. Currently it stands at 22 feet. A counterclockwise staircase will be craned in and dropped inside. The roof, which is being assembled like 100 years ago will be put on after that. It will be dedicated as part of the 275 th anniversary of Windham. Windham was settled in 1719 by Scottish immigrants seeking religious freedom. It represented a small part of a larger settlement, known by the residents as Nutfield, which also included the towns or Derry and Londonderry. The official Nutfield settlement s 300 th anniversary is set to be honored in 2019 with towns planning celebrations, parades and many more events to honor that historical birthday. Windham, and some of its original settlers broke away from the original colony and petitioned to charter its own community. In 1742, Gov. Benning Wentworth granted that request and Windham was incorporated. All this month, a town-wide scavenger hunt takes place with questions for the hunt available at Town Hall, Nesmith Library and online at windham.recdesk.com. 4 Our Town is buzzing with excitement as it prepares for its 275 th Anniversary Celebration! Commemorative anniversary apparel and community spirit wear have been created in the forms of t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. A special store has been set up where you can purchase your Windham Wear at: SALEM, N.H. A second casino could soon be setting up shop in Salem. The town Planning Board and the public will hear from another potential casino owner Tuesday, as well as Demoulas company representatives who are proposing a fourth Market Basket in town. Businessman Michael Withrow announced late last month that he will be moving forward with his charitable gambling enterprise, Chasers Poker Room. Chasers is slated to begin business in October, pending regulatory approval. After an initial delay, competitor Cheers Poker Room and Casino is scheduled to open by the end of the summer. The gambling sites would be required to provide some security. Withrow had originally planned to open his casino at 13 Garabedian Drive, but he is now seeking the Veterans Memorial Parkway space currently occupied by the Grand China restaurant. It is unclear if the restaurant will move or is going out of business. A public hearing will also be held Tuesday for a 161,000-square-foot retail and restaurant plaza proposal from Demoulas Super Markets company. If approved, the new Market Basket at 56 South Broadway would be the fourth in Salem. It will join two other locations on South Broadway, as well as the store slated for the Tuscan Village project. ONGOING Breakfast on Friday at 8:30 AM. An informal breakfast, open to all residents and guests of Hadleigh Woods, is held every Friday at 8:30 AM at Sammy J s Breakfast Café in Salem. Bowling on Wednesday at 3:00 PM. The H-W Open-To-All bowling party is held every Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Park Place Lanes. We bowl for fun & exercise never following the rules of the game. After our fun bowling, some of us go out for a meal. Coffee at Dunkin Donuts Thursday at 2:00 PM. Donuts on 111 next to Delahunty s Nursery. The men of Hadleigh Woods get together at Dunkin Breakfast on Sunday at 8:30 AM. A number of the Hadleigh Woods Community residents are also going to breakfast at the Southside Diner in Derry on Sundays. 5
