We have since hosted two epic Surf Therapy events: Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach on Oct 7 and the final event of our biggest season yet Malibu on Nov 11. Thanks to John Paul Mitchell Systems for sponsoring the entire 2017 AWOW Surf Therapy season; they make all of this possible. 1/10

2 Subscribe Past Issues You may have also heard the rumors (and they're true!); we sent a covert AWOW team to scout out NLand Surf Park in Austin, TX, where we experienced the joy of 24 perfect waves every hour on the hour. If the smiles on the faces of our Athletes and Surf Therapists are any indication, it looks likely that AWOW could be hosting a 2018 event in the middle of Texas! The surf gods have really been on AWOW s side this season, maybe a little too kind with some larger swells! Yet such is the magic of giving back that even with some nervous days leading up to events, we always seem to end up with absolutely perfect days. AWOW s incredible Water Safety teams worked hard all summer, ducking in and out of waves like dolphins always within arms reach of our Athletes and ensuring the safest possible surf therapy. Malibu Malibu was AWOW's biggest event to date, with everyone jumping in and making sure it flowed to perfection and a great day out was had by all.

We are beyond grateful to JPMS and Relik for stepping up and helping make it one of the best events yet.

3 Nearly 100 Athletes took to the waves, supported by over 150 Volunteers. If you factor in Subscribe Past Issues families and spectators, we were well over 350 in attendance. Katin is also the sole manufacturer of AWOW merchandise, and we are beyond excited to be launching our new online store in concert with them in the coming weeks! Malibu Malibu was AWOW's biggest event to date, with everyone jumping in and making sure it flowed to perfection and a great day out was had by all. Malibu was sponsored by John Paul Mitchell Systems and brought us a new host in Surf Relik, who also provided a few of their amazing team riders to work as AWOW Surf Instructors. We are beyond grateful to JPMS and Relik for stepping up and helping make it one of the best events yet. The sense of excitement, anticipation and awe at the absolute goodness that builds from the predawn set up of an AWOW event is almost indescribable. Nov 11 at Surfrider Beach had a rare show of late fall south swell; Malibu was pumping and so was the excitement for the final AWOW event of the year. More than 100 Athletes in need caught waves alongside AWOW's superstar Volunteers, including Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis, musician Matt Costa, professional surfer Courtney Conlogue, local legend Allen Sarlo, and Haole our Official Surf Therapy Dog. Nearly 200 volunteers showed up to help, and with almost 40 instructors, each and every Athlete left the ocean stoked, surfed out, and smiling. It s a beautiful thing to be a part of, said Anthony Kiedis. A little reminder of gratitude and love and having each other s back. 3/10

I am still in unbelief that my son would ever do something like this. He's 9 years old and has never participated in anything in his life. His autism is ridiculously severe. It's a miracle that he even tolerated the crowd. Some of the instructors were a little concerned about taking him out and for good reason. Pat passed by, heard he wasn't going out and scooped him up and said, "oh no, he's going out" and off they went. I can't believe it. He was so calm that night too. His stimming calmed way down. I'm in awe of everything; how strong the instructors are to take these kids out, how many volunteers there were, how you pulled off such an incredible event. Thank you so much! 5 Subscribe Past Issues Photos by: Mario Cervantes NLAND, Austin Texas AWOW is thrilled to be one of the first nonprofits to bring surf therapy inland, giving children and adults in need access to the waves and a chance to experience the magic of AWOW Surf Therapy. We headed to Austin, TX to do a test run at NLand Surf Park and were blown away by the experience! 12 children from the Autism Society of Texas and their families joined us and based on their ear to ear grins, it looks likely that we'll be returning next year for a full event! 20+ perfect waves in under an hour NLAND, AWOW is coming at you! A big thank you to John Paul Mitchell Systems for making all of this possible. Huge thanks to Doug Coors, Founder of NLand and his wonderful team, for welcoming our team an our amazing Athletes. We can't wait to return to provide Surf Therapy to many more kids in need who might otherwise have never had the opportunity. 5/10

Past Issues Photo by: Vijeyabhaskaran Mohan Safety First - A Walk On Water's ﬁrst advanced water safety training was held this month in conjunction with Oahu-based non-proﬁt Big Wave Risk Assessment Group (B.W.R.A.G.) AWOW Chairman Laura Rubin stated, "There is power and possibility in collaboration across organizations, sharing knowledge and skills. AWOW will not stop innovating, looking for ways to improve the experience for our athletes and their families" Fresh from Nazaré, Portugal, big wave surfer and B.W.R.A.G. Founder Danilo Couto led the group through a day long-series of risk-based exercises, both strategic and practical. The morning session was conducted classroom style including CPR certiﬁcation, reviewing existing protocols and identifying critical scenarios. We then proceeded to Zuma Beach in Malibu, where worst-case scenarios were reenacted, including everything from swimming "unconscious" 250 pound men to shore to "resuscitating individuals, working as a team throughout. We closed out the day with a traditional Hawaiian ceremony, giving thanks for the opportunity to be of service. AWOW Volunteers-Equity also signed as AWOW partners, donating 5% of their commission from all home sales to AWOW and will donate 15% of the commission on referrals. Grace Gerenser has been an avid AWOW athlete for the past few years and considers the AWOW volunteers part of her family, perhaps "Uncle Lippy" being her favorite. Grace holds her stoke of experiences with AWOW so dearly to her heart that when her past birthday came about, she decided to ask her family and friends to make a donation to AWOW! Grace managed to raise $60 to AWOW and proudly presented it to her "AWOW family" at the Malibu event with the most beautiful card. 7/10
