2 The Arrow Letter from the Editor By: Eli Koppenhaver, Publications Committee Chairman Greetings, Arrowmen! Welcome to The Arrow s new look. Inside these pages you ll find important information about the Lodge, and other articles which I hope are both interesting, and informational, to you. Of course, if you don t see an article about an event (or something else you think should be in here), feel free to write one and send it to me! I m always looking for more great articles from Lodge members around the area. I can be reached at publications@pa-hin.com -

3 Chiefly Speaking By: Ryan Hanson, Lodge Chief Brothers, What an exciting year 2017 had in store for the Order! I got to experience many different opportunities meeting new Arrowmen at Lodge events, attending our 40 th anniversary conclave where we buried a time capsule (which I ll be 78 years old when it pops out of the ground!), and getting the opportunity to serve on the Operation Arrow staff at the National Jamboree in West Virginia this summer (where you ll find me doing my laundry with a plunger and a bucket in the picture). I have a strong feeling that I will look back at these memories for years to come, and I am excited to create even more as your Lodge Chief in 2018! I have just finished my first semester at North Dakota State University where I have gotten to experience new situations and meet even more people. When it comes to college, there are two important things to remember; set goals for yourself and network with others. What is your New Year s resolution? This year, I encourage you all to set goals for yourselves inside and outside of Scouting, whether it be in school, at home, or even as a chapter officer in O/A! There s always someone or something out there that can be improved- sometimes challenging work can really be opportunity in disguise. The second part of my reminder is about having fun. Make sure you have plenty of that! All in all, I m excited to work with every member of our Lodge this year. Come up and talk to me if you see me at an O/A event, at summer camp, or even in Fargo somewhere. I want to meet as many people as possible this term, and I WILL make the time to meet you! Let me know if there s anything I can do to help make your dreams a success! See you on the Scouting trail! Yours in the Order, Ryan

4 December Indian Winter Recap By: Camden L., Lodge Secretary December Indian winter held at the Scout Center in Fargo, ND was a blast. I learned a lot about Native American Culture. There were breakout sessions in everything from beading, to care of regalia, and ceremonies practice. The food was amazing and I feel I learned a lot that will make me not only a better Arrowmen but a better person as well.

5 NOAC 2018 By: Evan Schroeder The 2018 National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is gearing up to be an amazing opportunity for members of the Pa-Hin Lodge. Join us and our Contingent July 30th - August 4th (dates of the conference not including travel) as we meet up with thousands of our fellow Arrowmen from across the nation at Indiana State University. NOAC is the Order of the Arrow equivalent to the National Scout Jamboree. It is a national event full of fun and exciting activities, top of the line training, Native American activities and everything else having to do with the Order. Attendees will have the opportunity to make new friends, and network with people who they never would have otherwise been able to meet. Anyone who attended the 2015 Conference would most likely agree that the shows are definitely a highlight of the event. Everything from getting to hear the National Chief and Vice Chief speak, to watching a Juggler do a balancing act and juggle swords and fire, and experiencing a concert with famous musicians like country performers Maddie and Tae. Section Chiefs from across the four regions gathered in December to plan what is looking to be, the best NOAC we have seen yet! Plans are well underway for the Pa-Hin Lodge Contingent to make the trip this summer. The final cost and itinerary for traveling is in the final stages of planning. Our contingent will most likely be stopping and experiencing a Wisconsin Dells water park, as well as a plethora of other fun activities. Larry Martin will be serving as the Adult Contingent Leader and Evan Schroeder will serve as the Youth Contingent Leader. If you have any questions regarding the conference or if you would like to sign up and discuss your options, contact Evan and Larry at: evanschroeder4@gmail.com & adviser@pa-hin.com. Are you ready to #DecideYourDestiny?

Breast Cancer Lodge Flap By: Camden L., Lodge Secretary Back at the October LEC I made a motion that the Pa-Hin lodge commission a Breast Cancer awareness flap into which the profits would be donated to a charity supporting those who have or are going through treatment or research. The feedback I received from the LEC is that they would like to support a local organization of which I am still trying to find and wanted more of the specifics before we were to vote. In talking to the patches sub-committee we said that 200 flaps would be around the right amount. I will seek key-3 approval for this motion shortly and would greatly appreciate your support.
