2 2 Chiefly Thoughts My brothers, For the last four summers, I ve been on staff at Gardner Dam and it s great to see so many scouts that are enthusiastic about the Order of the Arrow. Summer is a great time to see what is possible in the Order of the Arrow. When you re at camp, you can attend the OA Callout Ceremony, complete your Brotherhood if you re eligible, and most importantly, strengthen the bonds of Brotherhood at the OA Cracker Barrel at camp. What s better than free ice cream?! Hopefully when you were at camp, you earned the Kon Wapos Award and got the cool glow-in-the-dark patch. Earlier this spring, I went to Rokilio and Gardner Dam for Spring Conference and had a blast at both! I got to meet many new Arrowmen, and see many more learn more about the Order when they sealed their membership. I hope to see all of you at a Fall Conference in August and at Fall Rendezvous in October at Bear Paw. ASA Opportunities The National Order of the Arrow Committee created the Arrowman Service Award, or Sash Patch last year to help get Arrowmen just like you excited about the Centennial of our Order, which was just over a week ago. The Arrowman Service Award is kind of like the Kon Wapos Award, but for lodge events instead of summer camp. Some of the requirements include attending a Lodge Centennial Event, ArrowTour, Section Conclave, NOAC, sealing your membership, giving Cheerful Service, attending a high adventure base, and serving on staff at a Council Camp. 3 3 Adviser Minutes IT STARTS WITH US The Ripple Continues I ve been talking about the ripple effect for a several months. The National OA Conference theme It starts with us, talks about how one person doing just a small positive thing can create a ripple effect like that of a small pebble tossed into the pond. The ripples spread out from the point of contact and move out far and wide. Your small positive actions can make a big difference. I hope you are planning to attend the fall conferences. You will have the opportunity to create ripples with your service at camp. The service projects will help keep our camps in great shape for the many Scouts, leaders and parents who attend the Bay-Lakes Council camps all year round. I d like to challenge each of us to start a ripple with our new Ordeal members joining the OA during the fall conferences. We can all reach out to the new members and welcome them into the OA. Introduce yourself, get to know the new members, invite them to future chapter meetings, encourage them to attend the next lodge event and mostly make them feel welcome, so they want to continue being part of something special the BROTHERHOOD of CHEERFUL SERVICE! The Kon Wapos National Order of the Arrow contingent of 87 Arrowmen and a number of staff members from the lodge will be at Michigan State University the first week of August. Check Facebook for updates and see what your fellow Arrowmen are doing. You ll want to talk to the conference delegates once they return. I m sure there will be plenty of stories to share. As this issue of the Natowa is being assembled our lodge is making final preparations for two of our Centennial Celebrations; ArrowTour and NOAC. Hopefully you plan to join us with your friends and family at ArrowTour to look back at the past 100 years of our Order and celebrate all that we have done. Unfortunately, we can t bring every member of the lodge to NOAC. We invite you to stay tuned to the Lodge s Facebook page and other National social media sites to get taste of the Celebration. As fall comes there are two more Centennial Celebrations that Arrowmen can take part in. The first is the Centennial Section C -1b Conclave September We will be joining Arrowmen from across the Section as L.E. Phillips Scout Reservation in Haugen, WI. For more information and to register click here. The last Centennial event is our Lodge Fall Rendezvous October at Bear Paw Scout Camp. There will be many activities over the weekend but the highlight will be our Annual Lodge Awards. 4 4 Nominations It's that time again for nominations of your fellow Order of the Arrow member! Nominations for the vigil rank, the highest award in the Order of the Arrow have begun. This is an extremely high honor to be awarded to an OA member, so do not hold back on nominating those who you feel are worthy. On top of this, the Founder's Award, celebrating Arrowmen with outstanding service has started opening nominations, along with the Scoutmaster of the Year Award, which recognizes a Scoutmaster who has shown strong leadership and fellowship in the Arrowman community. Finally, we have the Arrowman of the Year Award, which honors an Order of the Arrow member which has exemplified the qualities of the Order to our chapter. Nominations are due by Fall Rendezvous, and to fill out any of these forms, please visit our chapter's webpage at: Yours in WWW, Alexander Richards Awards and Honors Chair Fall Conference Hello Arrowmen of Kon Wapos Lodge! My name is Spencer Martin and I m here to tell you about the biggest service event left in the 2015 calendar year. Why Spencer, are you talking about Fall Conference? asks Andy Arrowman. That s right, I m talking about FALL CONFERENCE! This is your chance to help the Bay-Lakes Council camp that you love and use year-round. That sounds like an awesome opportunity to give back to my lodge and council camps! When and where do I sign up? inquires Benjamin Brotherhood. Great question Benny, you can sign up online ASAP atwww.baylakesbsa.org! Where and when will Fall Conference be held? Will there be events on different dates if a weekend doesn t work with my schedule?! worries Vincent Vigil. Fantastic question Vincent! In fact, there will be multiple Fall Conferences over the weekends of August 14 th through the 16 th and August 21 st through the 23 rd. Bear Paw and Hiawatha s Fall Conferences will be the weekend of 8/14-8/16 and Gardner Dam, Rokilio and Twin Lakes Fall Conferences will be the following weekend, 8/21-8/23. 5 6 Inductions Brothers in the Wimachtendienk, Kon Wapos Lodge had five successful Spring Conference events earlier this year. We conducted inductions for all three honors at all five camps, but our work is not yet finished. As I am sure you know, Fall Conference is rapidly approaching! With this in mind, there are a few things which can help make your Chapter's conference go as smoothly as possible: 1. Be there! Our Council camps are in need of much cheerful service as the summer comes to a close, in order to Be Prepared for the coming winter. Also, there will be food, fun, and fellow-ship. Register at under the Fall Conference you wish to att3end. 2. Be an Elangomat! Help our new brothers as they undergo the four chal-lenges of the Ordeal. Guide them as a friend, and set an example of cheerful ser-vice for them. For more information, contact your Chapter Chief. 3. Don t Be There Alone! Invite your friends and OA members in your troop or crew to join us! If everyone brings a friend, we can not only accomplish more Cheerful Service, but also have more fun with more Arrowmen. 4. Bar your sash! If you are an Ordeal member, and you were inducted at least ten months before your Fall Conference, make sure you sign up to complete your Brotherhood Interview and get some bars on your sash. Register as a Brotherhood Candidate on for the Fall Conference of your choice. Don t forget: the cost of your sash was included in yuour Ordeal fee, so there s no reason not to become a Brotherhood member! Talk to your Chap-ter Chief for more details. The following Chapters are responsible for these camps: Mahwow (NL) and Muk (VY) Bear Paw Scout Camp, Mountain, WI (August 14 16) Mahng (HL) Camp Hiawatha, Munising, MI (August 14 16) Anikwa (KC) and Beshkno (LS) Camp Rokilio, Kiel, WI (August 21 23) Wesmianiw (GW) Gardner Dam Camp, White Lake, WI (August 14 16) Mekek (TL) and Witcawa (LL) Camp Twin Lakes, Waupaca, WI (August 14 16) Remember that you do not have to go to your Chapter s conference, and you can always sign up to go to two weekends. Each Fall Conference has a fee of $20.00 associated with it, and late fees do apply, so register early! Golden Arrow members, don t forget to register even though you already paid, and remember you would need to pay for the second Fall Conference you attend. A final reminder: you need Parts A and B of the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record for each lodge event you attend. They will not be returned due to state law compliance. Ankiwa chapter will be working with Beshkno Chapter to make a great Fall Conference.

September 18th through the 20th is Section Conclave at Phillips Scout Reservation in Haugen, Wisconsin.

Toward the end of the month, on the 9 th through the 11th, in Salvation Army Wonderland, Camp Lake, Wisconsin the National Leadership Seminar will

Several Ordeal members expressed interest in leadership positions, making me hopeful for our Chapter in the coming years. Also in June, summer camp sessions started. Anikwa Chapter members attended camp serving as troop members and as staffers. The beginning of another successful OA High Adventure year started in June. In July we will be having Arrowmen helping and attending Arrow Tour 2015 at Bear Paw Scout Camp. There will also be a NOAC contingent meeting at Arrow Tour. In August NOAC 2015, there will be a lot of Arrowmen going to NOAC and some of them will be Anikwa Arrowmen. There are so many cool things to do at NOAC including Ceremonies competition, Dance competition, the OA Warriors Challenge, and a ton more. Kon Wapos Lodge Fall Conference at Rokilio is on August 21 _23. This will be filled with work projects as we prepare to close up camp Rokilio for the winter months. New Ordeal members into the Order will be inducted as well. Again there will be great food provided for us by the kitchen staff. Ankiwa chapter will be working with Beshkno Chapter to make a great Fall Conference. In September we start with our first chapter meeting after the summer months. At this meeting we will be electing a new chapter chief. September 18th through the 20th is Section Conclave at Phillips Scout Reservation in Haugen, Wisconsin. October 4 th will be our first meeting with a new chapter chief, it will also be the Halloween meeting. Toward the end of the month, on the 9 th through the 11th, in Salvation Army Wonderland, Camp Lake, Wisconsin the National Leadership Seminar will be held to help train future leaders in the Order of the Arrow. Look forward to seeing you at some of these great events. Erik Janssen, Ank iwa Chapter Chief Spring Conference was once again a huge success for the Beshkno Chapter. We had 31 new ordeals, 9 scouts sealed their membership in the order of the arrow by earning brotherhood, and we also had 4 people earn vigil over the weekend at Camp Rokilio. Everyone made the best of a very rainy weekend and completed as many service projects as possible for the camp. By the end of the the weekend the camp looked great and ready for the summer camp. While at Rokilio, scouts and their families were also able to come and get Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Scott Tolzien s autograph. We are looking forward to Arrow Tour when it comes to Bear Paw on July 25. We are excited to learn more about the Order of the Arrow and have a great day in scouting.
