The Eagle June 2014 Summer Conclave 2014 As the weather starts to warm up, it s time to start thinking about the Summer Conclave at Sand Hill Scout Reservation June 6 th -8 th. All Lodge members are encouraged to register early so that we can fully plan for a weekend of cheerful service and fun. Online registration is preferred; however, there is a mail-in registration form on page 6. Registration will begin on Friday at 7:00pm, followed by the pre-ordeal ceremony and a work project leader s meeting. A complete list of work projects can be found on page 8. The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge Lodge Officer Contacts Phone Numbers and Nick Fatolitis, Lodge Chief Adam Ekblad, Administrative Vice Chief Trevor Case, Inductions Vice Chief Our Activities Chairman Patrick Ronayne reports that we will be having fun in the sun! Although we ll be working hard to prepare Sand Hill for summer camp, there will definitely be time to cool off in the pool. Remember to bring your bathing suits and sun screen! After a day of service and a hearty meal from our chuck-wagon crew, we ll relax to an evening of board games and fellowship. See you at Sand Hill! Leadership Development Conference With the recent Lodge elections, it s time to hold our Lodge Leadership Development (LLD) Conference. The conference will be held at Mease Countryside Hospital on May 10th and lunch will be provided. Members of both the Lodge Executive Board (LEB) and the Lodge Executive Committee (LEC), as well as their advisers, should plan on participating this year. It s a great refresher for those that may have participated in past years. This training session is an important part of your commitment to the lodge, so please plan on attending. It takes many hours of training and planning to run successful lodge activities and we d like to thank all the chairmen and their advisors for service to the lodge and our youth! 2 The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge Page 2 Lodge Chief s Bonnet Thanks to all who came out and joined us at Section Conference on April Held at Camp Shands, it was a weekend full of friendship and fellowship; we had a pretty incredible weekend! Our Pre-ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies teams participated in the ceremonies competitions and were both recognized as Honor Teams at the closing ceremony. Since both teams only recently started to work together as ceremonialist, it s amazing to see the progress they made over the past year and that they were recognized as being one of the best Ceremonies teams in the Section. It really shows us how lucky we are to have them. Lodge Historian, Kevin Ronayne, participated in the King s Cup Competition and made a display to show off the history of Timuquan Lodge. His display and presentation won the Lodge first place! Unfortunately, our Lodge did not meet its attendance goal and fell shy by almost 15 people. We need to work together to get the attendance numbers to Lodge and Section events to an all-time high! Coming up on June 6 th - 8 th is the Lodge s annual Summer Conclave. The council really depends on Timuquan Lodge to help make sure Sand Hill Scout Reservation is ready to open its doors for their summer camp program. I am looking forward to seeing all your familiar faces, as well as new ones, at the June weekend. I challenge you all to go back to your troops and invite all of your brothers to come join us for a weekend of serving your camps and spending time with your brothers. If we can get 150 members at the June Conclave then I will give one of the attendees the opportunity to throw a pie in my face! So, be sure to go back to your troops and recruit as many members as possible and maybe you ll be the one to pie the Lodge Chief! Good luck to all those with upcoming AP and final exams. Be sure to study up! - Nick Fatolitis, Lodge Chief Timuquan Lodge, Best Lodge in Section S-4 Admin Update It was good to see everyone at the Spring Fellowship. For those of you that don't know, I was reelected to serve the lodge. I would like to thank all of the chairmen that have decided to stay on, and continue to serve and help improve the lodge. I have several plans to help us move forward this year that include: Filling empty chairmen positions (Camping Promotions & Troop Representative - contact me if interested). Using the Youth Resource Surveys to help chairmen fill their committees. Hosting committee midways at every conclave. It's hard to do these things alone, if not impossible! I will need your help to carry out these plans. At the June conclave, the committee chairmen and I are having a committee midway to help recruit people, and help everyone see all the behind the scenes work that is done. I hope that you will take a few minutes to check out the displays. Thank you for reelecting me and I look forward to your help successfully completing my plans. If you would like to get involved, contact me. - Adam Ekblad, Administrative Vice Chief Ceremonies The Ceremonies team is very proud to announce that at Section Conference our Pre-Ordeal and Brotherhood teams both received the distinction of "Honor Team." Competing against teams from all over the State of Florida, our Pre-Ordeal team was one of four teams to receive this award, while our Brotherhood team was one of only two teams to be recognized. Our Lodge was represented by Jakob Fritz, Todd Little, Anthony Morelli, Kevin Ronayne, Patrick Ronayne, Chris Thornton and Shawn Young. When you see these fellow brothers, stop and congratulate them on a job well done! We look forward to welcoming our new brothers at the June Conclave so please plan to join us for our Pre-Ordeal ceremony at the Dance Arbor, located just to the left of the dining hall. Our Ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies will be held at the ceremony ring and we need you to come out and support your award winning ceremonies team as we work to provide an outstanding experience for the candidates. We hope to see you all there. - Anthony Morelli & Todd Little, Ceremonies Chairman To our Pre-Ordeal and Brotherhood Ceremonies Teams for distinction at the S-4 Section Conference

The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Page 3 Vigil Class of 2013 It is with great honor that I present to you the 2013 Vigil Class of Timuquan Lodge. Let us congratulate Zak Bowles, Nick Fatolitis, Dane Nichols, Barbara Gieselman, Greg Sammel, and Theresa Ronayne. I congratulate you on being bestowed this honor for the cheerful service you have done and will continue to do in the future. Along with congratulating our new brothers of the Vigil Honor, I have many people to thank for making their process of receiving the vigil a very smooth one. First my adviser, Mrs. Coser. I was probably the most frustrating person you have ever had to deal with, and I thank you for your advice and guidance along the way. I would also like to thank all of the other Vigil Honor members that helped in the process. You all made their experience a great and enjoyable one. I thank you all for helping me along the way with whatever I needed. The Vigil Honor is an award that can t be earned, it seeks those who have earned it. All of you can one day be presented with the Vigil Honor, but only if you represent the true spirit of the Order of the Arrow. At the Vigil Breakfast, Bob Cliff shared some words that we could all use as arrowmen. E. Urner Goodman, viewed the world noting how his words still ring true today. Things of the spirit are what count: Brotherhood in a day when there is too much hatred at home and abroad. Cheerfulness in a day when the pessimists have the floor and cynics are popular. Service in a day when millions are interested in getting or grasping, rather than giving. Remember the ones who chose you NEED you, for he who serves his fellows is of all his fellows greatest. - Jakob Fritz, Vigil Selection Chairman Camping Promotions Since its humble beginnings in 1946, Timuquan Lodge has striven to uplift the tenets of the Order of the Arrow and to assist the Council in as many ways as possible. Largely for this reason, the Lodge created the Camping Promotions Committee whose sole purpose is to help promote camping, Troop camping in particular, at one of West Central Florida Council s two amazing properties: Sand Hill Scout Reservation and Camp Soule. The Camping Promotions Committee has been hard at work to provide the members of West Central Florida Council, with more resources and information about places to take your unit camping that is both close to home and all around fun. We also update the "Where to go Camping Guide. If you are interested in helping the Camping Promotions Committee to promote camping within our council, please volunteer for this committee. We are looking for several arrowmen who would like to serve on this committee. Please contact me if you can help. - Greg Sammel, Camping Promotions Advisor Brotherhood and Retention Brotherhood and Retention has a busy year ahead of them. To start things off, we are aiming to get at least 25 eligible members to go through Brotherhood and of course we d like to see more members participate in the lodge. We definitely need your help to meet these goals. You might ask, How can I help? Well, there are several ways: promoting lodge activities at your unit meetings, getting members of your troop to come to lodge weekends, chapter meetings, and encouraging them to be active in the lodge in general. Brotherhood and Retention is always looking for brothers to help out being Elangomats and Brotherhood counselors at our lodge weekends. If any of these sound interesting, please contact me. See you all in June at the Conclave! - Zachery Zukowski, Brotherhood & Retention Chairman Inductions Congratulations to our new brotherhood members: Richard Case (T26) and Sean Pittman (T305). As many of you know, the Summer Conclave is right around the corner and this means new opportunities to become active in the lodge. Unit Elections, Ceremonies, and Brotherhood & Retention all need your help. So please contact the chairmen of these teams to become active. Lastly, remember that the Order of the Arrow is an organization for brotherhood so please encourage the members in your troop to join us in cheerful service. - Trevor Case, Inductions Vice Chief

The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge Page 4 Calusa Chapter Good News! The Calusa Chapter now has a new Elections Chairman, Billy Kline, and a new Scribe, Michael Bulu. Be sure to welcome them at our next meeting. This is perfect timing as we plan for April troop elections, and this will give you time to help grow our chapter by doing troop elections before summer camp. I hope to see all Calusa arrrowman at the Summer Conclave where we ll help get Sand Hill ready for summer camp, and welcome new Calusa Ordeal and Brotherhood members. As a reminder, Calusa Chapter meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month at Clearview United Methodist Church. The church is located on the corner of 38th Ave N and 40th St N and we meet at 7:00 pm. - Dane Nichols, Calusa Chapter Chief Osceola Chapter We have a lot to do! As new Chapter Chief, I m planning on having more troop elections, improving our chapter and its participation, as well as getting some of our members in key positions. Make sure to come we need participation! Our next chapter meeting is on May 14th at the First Lutheran Church, 1644 Nursery Rd, Clearwater FL I will try and arrange an upcoming meeting at a park, so we can have some fun at the end of the meeting. I will also talk to other chapters to see if we can have a day where our chapters can compete or just play some games. If anyone has any ideas for a chapter meeting or activity, make sure to talk to me or Mrs. Knaebel! You can reach me on my mobile phone or . I recently got a Facebook account, so you can look me up there, too! - Daniel Viera, Osceola Chapter Chief Tocobaga Chapter My name is Shawn Young, I m a Life Scout and the newly elected Tocobaga Chapter Chief for Good news: We won the Silver Arrow at the Spring Fellowship! As Chapter Chief, I represent the chapter at the Lodge Executive Committee (LEC) and I need your help to choose what you as a chapter want to do. My goals this year include bringing the chapter back to a gold status and seeing better attendance at chapter meetings, events, and lodge weekends. As many of you know, the attendance dropped a lot last year and I want to bring it back up to help the lodge regain its former glory. Our next event is the Summer Conclave and I d love to see Tocobaga arrowmen there! - Shawn Young, Tocobaga Chapter Chief Vigil Certificate Project Vigil Certificates were established in 1938 and Terry Grove of Winter Park, FL is working to collect a complete set of certificates for the National OA Archives and museum. The event will be open to the public with a goal of increasing membership in the West Central Florida Council. Targeted towards young boys, we hope to show them all the fun Scouting has to offer. There is something for everyone, so please contact me ASAP. - Kyle Denman, Lodge Secretary

The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Page 5 NOAC 2015 I am very excited to be your chairman for our NOAC 2015 Lodge Contingent. In less than two years, this event will be held at Michigan State University (MSU) during the week of August 3 rd - 8 th. This also mark the 100 th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow, and to celebrate every registered arrowman will receive exclusive rewards including, a special NOAC Patch and a limited edition red and white OA sash. Our goal is to increase our attendance from 2012 by fifty percent. This will provide strong representation of Timuquan Lodge and help us get priority registration with dorm placement, and make for an overall great trip. In 2012 we had 19 members, so in 2015 we would like to have over 50. The registration deposit is $50 and we also need a patch design and theme for the trip. I am encouraging all brothers in the lodge to come up with their own patch designs and have them ready for review by the Summer Conclave (June 6 th - 8 th ), so that my advisors and I have plenty of ideas to work from. The patch must include an eagle and have something to do with Timuquan, Pinellas/Pasco counties, WCFC, NOAC and/or 100th anniversary of the OA. It cannot include any copyrighted MSU logos. In the meantime, my advisers and I will be working hard on planning the logistics and trip events, as well as getting information to you. Put NOAC on your calendar today (August 3-8, 2015)! Visit these links for the registration form and more information on NOAC 2015: NOAC_2015_Flyer.pdf - Anthony Morelli, 2015 NOAC Chairman Centennial Branding Guidelines With the release of the centennial logo and totem comes the Centennial Anniversary Brand Guidelines. Check it out for full details on how to incorporate the graphics into your patches and promotional items! Visit the National OA website at for details. - Courtesy of the Centennial Update enews Centennial Totem & Logo After months of deliberation, the Order of the Arrow s centennial anniversary identity has been selected and approved by the national committee and the 100th Anniversary Task Force. The identity, which includes a totem and a logo, will commemorate the theme of our celebration, Centuries of Service. Although dozens of impressive designs were submitted to the Centennial Anniversary Identity Contest last year, one rose above the rest. The winning submissions were designed by Arrowman Nathaniel Kelton of Coosa Lodge and feature many references to symbolism found within the Order of the Arrow. The simplistic, but meaningful designs of the totem and matching logo make them worth both using and remembering. The purpose of the totem is to provide the Order of the Arrow with a symbol for the centennial celebration. Similar to the 75th anniversary totem, lodges and sections are encouraged to feature this totem on all centennial anniversary memorabilia. As a way of preserving the Order s celebration of the centennial, lodges are being asked to send one of each item to the National Scouting Museum in Irving, Texas. These items - including shirts, flaps, buckles, etc. - will be put into a large collection to archive our 100th anniversary. The centennial logo, which includes the totem, is designed to unify the many parts of our celebration. Chapters, lodges, sections, and regions are encouraged to use the centennial logo to brand all of their centennial activities and promotional materials. The logo will also be utilized to unify the Order of the Arrow s national program brands in Three different iterations have been designed for use with specific audiences when promoting the centennial anniversary. The centennial anniversary is quickly approaching and our year-long celebration will soon begin. For now, though, the centennial anniversary identity is here to help us prepare for the momentous occasion. - Gerald Fraas, National OA Website

At the 2012 national OA planning meeting, the web team was challenged to redesign and rebuild the national OA web site. The web team spent thousands of hours in service to the Order creating the site. If not for their hard work and dedication, completion of this project would not have been possible. This redesign marks the first time in many years that the national Order of the Arrow website has been rebuilt from the ground up. Some new features include: Responsive Design - The new site is 100% responsive and will automatically resize to fit any screen size, providing a consistent user experience across any device. New Look - The new site showcases visual media wherever possible and aligns with newly updated OA brand guidance. Improved Navigation - The new navigation structure brings up the content that visitors access most in just a few clicks. Social Media Integration - The OA Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds are showcased throughout the site, to allow visitors to easily read and share content. E-News - Sign-up for the News You Can Use can be found at the bottom of the page, so you can receive the latest OA news right in your inbox. In 2014, the web team will continue to refine the site as well as design and develop brand new features such as an interactive calendar, photo gallery, branding resources and more. During the redesign project, their goal was to provide the best user experience possible to visitors. In that spirit, should you have any questions, comments or feedback, please contact the web team at webmaster@oa-bsa.org. - Courtesy of Aaron Gluck, National Bulletin Spring 2014
