2 Arrowmen of Kidi Kidish, Chiefly Speaking I would like to thank you all for inviting me to your Winter Banquet. I had a great time playing foosball, air hockey, and basketball. Scuba diving was by far the most fun. I had a great time visiting with all of you on Saturday. The growth potential and leadership is evident among every arrowmen and I look forward to visiting with many of you at NOAC in the coming months. Congratulations to everyone that received recognition for their hard work throughout the year. The year 2009 shows great promise for your lodge and I look forward to viewing Kidi Kidish among the best lodges in the nation for another year. Thanks again to everyone for being such gracious hosts especially Cody and Bob Gibbens. Dear Arrowmen, Yours in Cheerful Service, I hope that you all are enjoying the splendid weather that spring has brought us. This is going to be another busy and exciting year for Kidi Kidish Lodge. We have many events planned for the year. Last January we held our annual Winter banquet at the North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. We had a good turn out and all that attended had fun. Activities that Arrowmen took part in included scuba diving, pool, air hockey, basketball, patch trading, training and much more. Our guest speaker for the evening was immediate past Central Region Chief Tyler Elliot. Above, lodge advisers and arrowmen challenged each other at pool. Below, our lodge treasurer Bryce Joonas, is about to taste basketball Our next event will be Spring Conclave at Camp Brown. Our lodge has been given a great honor this year. We have received a $5, service grant for Camp Brown. We must use this money to finish the fishing area and to revamp and finish the trails around camp so they are more user friendly for Cub Scouts. At Spring Conclave we will be trying to get as much of this project done as possible so we need all that can attend to be there. It is almost that time of year again when the Summer Camp Staff packs up their gear and returns to Camp Hansen. I hope you all are ready for another beautiful year at Summer Camp. Most of our Lodge Officers will be on staff this year. There will be many new activities at camp this year so I hope you are looking forward to another great week at Camp Hansen. This summer you have an opportunity of a lifetime, the National Order of the Arrow Conference. Here you will meet other Arrowmen from all over the country, experience our order like never before, and have an incredible amount of fun while doing it. If you are unable to attend NOAC there is another life changing event coming next summer. I know there are some spots available on our two troops that will be attending the National Jamboree to celebrate 100 years of Scouting in America. This year we are hosting the Section C-5A Conclave at Camp Hansen. The theme for this event is Survivor. We need as many people to attend at possible. If you have never been to a Section Conclave, you really need to go. You will meet some really cool people and participate in even more cool activities. The dates for this event are September More information will be sent out at a later date. We are also making progress to our goal of Quality Lodge. Like I said before, we have a very busy year and I am looking forward to it, I hope that you are too. I hope to see you all at Spring Conclave. Page 2 Coon s Eye!

Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation. Vigil Honor members have an honorable tradition to uphold. They must at all times conduct themselves in accordance with the ideals of Scouting, the Order of the Arrow, and the Vigil Honor. Membership comes as recognition of unselfish leadership in service. 6 SPRING CONCLAVE PROJECTS, CAN YOU HELP? Potential OA Projects & Camp Clean-up Projects for 2009 Fishing Area Re-route rain water so the it goes around the sand instead of through it 1) Use available 6 x 6 timbers at camp Install one more section of split rail fence split rail post in Morton Building at camp brown and two rails in top of old shelter by staff area Spread more sand in fishing area. I think 1 dump truck load will do it. For seating, I am thinking of using the excess logs we used in the OA Ceremony ring. I think there is enough to do 4 or 5 seats. Clean, weed & mulch all trails a) We need some good mulch, or we can use what Donnie brought in last year. Using the old mulch works great but we have to re-mulch every year. However, this is a good annual project for Cubs as well as OA. Clean camp get a big Dumpster placed centrally located in camp. a) Remove all of the big round tables b) Remove old freezer by Morton Building c) Remove ice machine in dining hall Clean out cooks bedroom and lounge area Do a general clean up around Morton building and edge of tree line Eagle Pavilion Paint, install lights & weed area a) We will need about 5 gallons of paint and a paint sprayer (or 10 paint brushes/rollers) b) Council will need to bring in an electrician to wire and install lights Cabins & Pavilions stain, seal & repair We will take approximately 1½ gallons of stain/sealer per cabin (16 cabins) Each pavilion will need approximately 1 gallon of stain/sealer (3 pavilions) 1 cabin in lower area needs some attention due to dry rot of 2 logs Fence around trash dumpster Page 6 Coon s Eye!

7 SPRING CONCLAVE PROJECTS, CAN YOU HELP? 4 remaining outhouses A)Remove remaining outhouses (put lumber in burn pile) B)Fill pits and cap with cement (will need lots of sand) Muddy Waters campfire ring Climbing tower A)Repair steps (use railroad ties stored by Morton Building) B)Repair several seats using timbers stored by Morton Building C)In the future, we will need to do a complete remodel of the campfire area, The remaining timbers area rotted out. A)Weed inside of fence at climbing tower. B)We will need several loads of mulch dumped in side the fence Last time we used a tractor to spread the mulch and youth to smooth it out Dining Hall, Cooks sleeping area Swimming pool A)Remove desks, copier, beds, safe B)Clean carpet C)Install new bunk beds and put some furniture in the cooks lounge area D)Put up new curtains and shades A)Weed around fence Kidi-Kidish Lodge Selected For National Service Grant For the past several years, the National Order of the Arrow Committee has provided matching service grants for a limited number of projects submitted by application to the national OA office. The evaluators considered the innovative scope and design of the project, the number of Scouts impacted by the project, and how the project enhances Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting in the council. Congratulations goes to the Kidi-Kidish lodge from Section C-5A for being selected, along with 8 other lodges nationwide, as a National Service Grant recipient for Kidi-Kidish Lodge, Coronado Area Council #192 received $5000 complete a 2.5 mile hiking and biking trail and improve an area of camp for fishing access in order to offer ecology hikes, biking, fishing and other activities to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. We have a ton of projects, activities, and a cool patch for whoever comes out and joins us in service. The theme for this conclave is Kidi Kidish Under Construction, and we need all the workers we can get. If you recall, we received a $5,000 service grant to use on the fishing area, which we plan to use to the fullest. There will also be quite a few other projects that we really want to get done. Some of those projects include painting and dealing with other materials that wouldn t be good to get on your designer jeans, so be sure to bring some grubby clothes to do work in. In the afternoon, once you're done with your projects that you're working on, there s a whole list of things to do for you brothers who don t want to do more service projects. The climbing tower will be open to those who have a physical and meet the age and weight requirements. Rumor has it that the Pool may also be open, so I'm calling out to you Life Guards to please be there and be able to help us out. There will be lodge ball, chapter vs. chapter, for any chapters who want to put a team together. We have Frisbees and scorecards for people who would like to go down and toss a little Frisbee Golf. Another fun thing is a Frozen T-Shirt Contest, a race to put on a shirt that s frozen solid. Finally, our theme being construction, there will be a challenge open to Arrowmen of all ages: To build a tower as tall as you can, with 25 toothpicks, and 3 feet of duck tape. I think it s going to be a fun weekend for everyone, and I hope to see all of you out there. If you have any questions, you can call me any time at (785) Yours in Brotherhood, VCE Jared Gross
