Fun and Festivities at Croatan Fall Fellowship The members of Croatan Lodge took the opportunity to gather once again at Camp Boddie on the weekend of October to take a break after a wonderful year of hard work to prepare camp for the summer camping season, and to help us great ready to invite over 1500 of our fellow Scouts and Scouters from across North Carolina to the 2016 Cardinal Conclave. While there is still some work to be fun, this wasn t the weekend for it, and if you didn t get to make it, you sure did miss a lot of excitement! Friday evening kicked off with introductions of those running for Lodge leadership positions for 2016 and some of the most thrilling minutes of the event during the Minute to Win It challenge. Saturday morning got things rolling with demonstrations, competitions and crafts at the dance arbor and handicraft area that included working on a dugout canoe, regalia, and blowguns. Chapters also had the opportunity to highlight some of their skills in competitions that included Native American team dance, team drum, individual dance and ceremonies. If that wasn t quite your thing, then you could head on over to the athletic field for some sports and comradery, or just enjoy that morning while looking out at the river and enjoying a cup of coffee. It really did not matter what you were doing, as long as you were out with your fellow Arrowmen having a good time. The real fun came in the afternoon where the lodges went head to head in the quest for the silver arrow. Teams from the lodges competed in a multitude of events to see who would come out on top, followed by the ever-favorite lodge volleyball tournament. Even the lodge advisers and adult leaders managed to get in on some of the action and show that youthfulness doesn t always trump experience. With all the competitions, it is important to note that there were some quite solemn moments for all Arrowmen as well, beginning with the calling out of the seven Croatan Lodge Vigil Candidates on Friday night. Saturday, Croatan hosted their own 100 th anniversary campfire rededication. It was truly a memorable occasion where our own heart of Camp Boddie, the council fire, was joined through the mingling of ashes of other lodges from all across the country as well as from the NOAC Centennial Fire, Summit Circle, Treasure Island and Dr. E Urner Goodman s own Brotherhood Barn. For all the fun and excitement of the weekend, don t forget, that our next Conclave workday will be November 21 st. This is in replacement of the Winter Banquet which would usually be held on this date, but will instead be held in January along with the Lodge Leadership Development. This is a great opportunity for Arrowmen to take some training to learn the inner workings of the lodge and their chapters, and then join us for a great meal looking back at all of the accomplishments of our lodge and chapters as well as the installment of the 2016 lodge officers.

Above: Congratulations to the seven newest recipients of the Vigil Honor for Croatan Lodge; Jeb Lamm, Hunter Hairston, Luke Risario, Belinda Cowell and Brandon Kleimann, also not pictured are Avery Ingalls and Thomas Boykin. Below: It was a full lodge with standing room only for the ceremonies on Friday and Saturday and the lodge meeting on Sunday

Was it your chapter s Minute to Win it? Above: Harvey Hoopes IV competes in the final round of the Friday night Minute to Win it, but were his card skills up to snuff? Right/Below: The Spudnik challenge was overseen by everybody s favorite deer. The first challenge of the night was to see who could make a potato satellite to balance the peanut M&M s, though for some the hardest part was just not eating the M&M s.

Many Arrowmen spent the morning participating in various Indian Affairs activities including blow guns, choker making, and various dance, drum, ceremonies and singing contests.

Not Sure If Playing Volleyball... Or Dancing to Thriller?!?
