Brothers; Associate Lodge Adviser of OA Affairs Curt Morrison AssociateOAadviser@chogun.org On March 15th to 17th of this year our Lodge & Council were privileged to host the Central Region, NLS & DYLC training at Camp Wakonda. Including participants & training staff, there were over 100 Arrowmen from all over the Central Region. Including the National Chief & the Central Region Chief, who were also in attendance as training staff. As a lodge, we had 16 members of our Lodge complete the NLS or the DYLC training, which was the largest group from one lodge in attendance. I would like to congratulate all of our Lodge members who completed the training. We look forward to watching them use what they have learned to help lead their brother Arrowmen in the great CHO- GUN-MUN-A-NOCK Lodge. We had 2 Lodge members Ted Weiland & Christopher Merck serve on NLS/DYLC staff. Thanks to them for their service. We also had 29 of our Lodge members who spent their weekend working as camp staff, to the tune of nearly 400 service hours for the lodge. They planned, prepared & served all the meals, helped with setup & then cleaned up on Sunday. I would like them to know that their service was greatly appreciated by everyone who attended. We received numerous compliments from the participants & the training staff, who were very appreciative of the accommodations & especially the great food that our Lodge members served them the entire weekend. You no doubt made a very positive impression on all of the visitors to Camp that we had & I want to personally thank you for all of your help with this event. and the opportunity to help showcase your Camp & your Lodge. 2 Vice-Chief of BSA Affairs Evan Rossman Lodge Treasurer Isaac Vrba The beginning of the year has come in with quite a bang and a lot of snow, but nevertheless, the start of my new term has been very eventful. Unit elections have begun, a new patch is in the works for Elangomats, a token system is being introduced for camp promotions, and much more! But the most exciting part so far is getting to welcome female youth in this next few months. Regardless, this year is proving to be a good one. Evan Rossman Brothers, as Spring Conclave is rapidly approaching, it's time to think about getting your Brotherhood or Duty Promotion paperwork ready for Conclave. I look forward to reading all those letters for Brotherhood candidates. Make sure you remind your fellow Troop members who got called out last summer if they have not yet attended a Conclave, this spring is the LAST CHANCE to do their Ordeal before they would have to be re-elected by their Troop. Spring Conclave is May 17 th -19 th. Summer is just around the corner, despite what the amount of snow still on the ground at the beginning of March might make you think. Summer is coming, which means the Ice Cream Socials and Call Out Ceremonies are also coming up. If you can make it to any of these events please try. Any and all help at these events is greatly appreciated. Yours in Brotherhood, Sean Ehlert Lodge Secretary Sean Ehlert LodgeSecretary@ChoGun.org Greetings Arrowmen, I hope your 2019 is going well! We are off to a good start for the new year. Early in January our lodge held its annual Winter Banquet where we handed out awards for the year, passed down the bonnet, and ended the night with an Assist the Arrowman auction. At this event we raised $1000 with all proceeds from the auction going directly into the ATA fund for the youth members. Huge shout out to those who participated both on the donation and buying-end. You have our thanks! In March we also held our annual Spring Fellowship weekend event with our two auctions that both benefit the Assist the Arrowman fund. Between the youth only silent auction and the traditional auction, following the Powwow, we raised a grand total of $2,759. These funds will be used to assist youth Arrowmen for attending Regional and National events. Thanks again to all of those who participated! Lastly, I would like to mention that the Lodge House now accepts cards! That s right, starting as soon as this Spring you will have the option to make your purchase with a credit or debit card. We look forward to seeing you in the Lodge House this spring! Isaac Vrba Greetings Arrowmen,

3 Brothers: The Lodge 2019 Spring Conclave is quickly approaching. With that being said we need to remember what conclave is for. At Spring Conclave we are helping prepare your camp for the summer camping season. So I am personally inviting al of you to attend, & join me in a weekend of Fun, Fellowship & Service At conclave we also have all of the Lodge Induction Ceremonies, welcoming New Ordeal & Brotherhood members, so every chapter ceremony team NEEDS to be ready Friday night. Lastly there are still a few positions available on the OA side of the LEC. If you are interested in serving on the LEC, please contact the Lodge Chief, Clint Hill, for more information Jonathan Schlotfelt Vice-Chief of OA Affairs Jonathan Schlotfelt VCofOAaffairs@ChoGun.org Native American Events Co-Chairs Logan Hill and Mason Erger NAEvents@chogun.org Hello, I was super excited for our Powww at Spring Fellowship. In our adult males, we had in 1st place Colby Robbins, in 2 place: Mike Merek, and in 3rd place Chris Cheatum. And a special congratulations to our head man Johnathan Schlorfelt and our head lady Sarah Harris. We all enjoyed the Pow Wow and will look for many more in the future. Hello Brothers, My name is Jordan Silcox. I am the 2019 Unit Elections Chair. I've been in the OA for 2 years. I am Brotherhood. I look forward to seeing more people in the OA in the future. For those units who have not completed elections, please contact your Chapter Vice-Chief of BSA Affairs or myself to set up a date. I look forward to calling out all the new candidates this summer. As always make sure to encourage all OA members to come to any chapter meetings or OA events. Jordan Silcox Brothers, I am trying to collect the information of the OA Unit Reps in HAC. 4 Hello everyone, We recently had the chapter campout out at Waubeek and helped with the workday on Saturday to give back to our camp. We also discussed plans about the dance team for this year. Our next big lodge event will be Spring Conclave. Before that, though, Three Rivers is helping out the surrounding Cub Scout packs by having an opening ceremony for their Blue and Gold Banquets. Finally we have to go around to the troops and do their OA elections to hopefully get new youth into our lodge. Thank You, Thomas Meineke Three Rivers Chapter Chief Thomas Meineke What is the Vigil Honor? The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserve for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or m ore of the following, their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout camp. Lodge Chief Clint Hill will be calling for the 2019 Vigil Honor candidates selection in June. If you have someone you would like to nominate for Vigil Honor, fill out the Vigil Nomination Form, which is available at chogun.org/forms Vigil_Nomination.pdf. Please include a picture of the candidate to help the selection committee know who they are. The 2018 Vigil Honor members are listed here with their Vigil names, talents or traits: When you see on of the new Vigil members, ask him what his name means. Vigil names are a based upon each person s qualities. -Article written by Dick Eyman, Vigil Adviser Brothers, OCV Chapter Chief Caleb Brandauer OCVChapterChief@ChoGun.org During this new year we are focusing on increasing our attendance to the Lodge and Chapter events/meetings. One of the most important things for us to be doing is to talk to our fellow Arrowmen. Not everybody in our lodge will be reading this article, so we need people reading this to talk to people in their units to inform them. Speaking of informing our units, we need to make sure that each unit has an OA Representatives, and that these OA reps are attending both the chapter/lodge events including monthly chapter meetings so they can share information back to their units. As a reminder for those who don't know, Old Capital Valley meets the second Thursday of every month at the First Christian Church (900 Lincolnshire Pl, Coralville). The meetings begin around 7:00 PM. The first step of increasing our attendance and activity in our order is informing our members about what is going on.i also need your help to get the members of your unit more active in the OA. Next time you go to a meeting or event, invite another OA member to go with you. If you know that somebody was called out last summer but hasn't completed their ordeal, encourage them to complete it during the April Ordeal event or at Spring Conclave. If you know somebody who has completed their Ordeal but hasn't completed their Brotherhood, encourage them to attend Spring Conclave. The more members we have involved, the more we can accomplish and the more fun we can have. Caleb Brandauer

8 Inductions Chairmen Gunnar Swan Activities Adviser Mike Merck To my fellow Arrowmen, We have a unique opportunity this Spring! We are having an ordeal weekend April 5th- April 7th. This is an additional opportunity for Ordeal Candidates to fulfill their ordeal. In addition to Ordeal Candidates we also need Elangomats. The Ordeal Weekend is not the only time we need Elangomats, as Spring Conclave is coming up. If you are interested in being an Elangomat, me at Inductions@chogun.org. In addition to the new Ordeal weekend, we are offering a new patch set to Elangomats. Elangomats that attend training at Fellowship (which is being offered this upcoming spring fellowship), and are an Elangomat from Friday to Saturday Ordeal ceremony will be given this patch set as a one time show of gratification. Gunnar J. Swan Spring Fellowship went great! Thanks to everyone who did presentations during the training cells. The classes were great! The food was excellent and also plentiful. The cooks did an outstanding job as usual. How about the Sasaya Singers? Wow! Super music to dance to. Great Powww. The Assist the Arowman Fund auctions brought in $2759! Special thanks to everyone who brought in items for the auctions. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did. See you all at Spring Conclave May 17-19! Yours in Brotherhood, Mike Merck Awards and Rec Chair Avery Sanford AwardsandRec@chogun.org Congratulations to Theodore Collins and Clint Hill as they were this years recipients of the Black Crescent Scholarship. Both will receive a $500 scholarship to the school they will be attending. A big thank you to the Awards and Rec committee who reviewed all of the applications this year.
