Summer is the perfect time to take a vacation, connect with friends and family, and spend time exploring the outdoors. And as those in the know will tell you, summers in the Pacific Northwest are practically perfect. Gray skies and rainy days are replaced with long, warm, sunny days with nary a cloud in sight. Locals and tourists head outdoors to take advantage of every last drop of sunshine, warm temperatures and blue skies. Luckily, Snohomish County is packed with fun, outdoor recreational activities, wildlife viewing and a large selection of events and festivals! At the end of the day, pitch your tent in one of the beautiful campgrounds throughout the county, on a fluffy pillow in one of our comfortable hotels, inns or in the homeaway-from-home setting of one of our cozy bed and breakfasts. Whatever you choose to do, we hope you enjoy your stay in Snohomish County! Outdoor Recreation 1/9
2 What better time of year than summer to explore the great outdoors? Since more than half of Snohomish County is rural, there s never a shortage of beautiful outdoor play spaces around here! The extreme sport of kiteboarding is growing in popularity, especially in Snohomish County, and many athletes travel from outside the area to kiteboard and windsurf at Jetty Island, just off the coast of Everett providing some of the warmest water in Puget Sound due to its shallow, tidal waters. Other water sports such as kayaking, scuba diving, stand up paddle boarding, canoeing and more are popular in the county s many lakes, rivers, and in Puget Sound. Use the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau website as a resource to find an outfitter near you! Looking for family activities? Or just want to drop the kids off somewhere for the day and do your own exploring? Either way, Sunset Bay Beach Camp is a great place to entertain kids and adults alike! This water sports camp provides opportunities to wakeboard, sail, windsurf, sea kayak, and zip line. Day camps, overnight camps and drop-ins are all available for water lovers of all ages. Visit our site for a complete listing of all outdoor recreation and education camps. Experience Wildlife 2/9
3 Warm weather brings out the animals too! Throughout the county there are plenty of opportunities to see animals, whether you prefer to watch from afar or want a more interactive experience. The Outback Kangaroo Farm in Arlington is part zoo, part farm, part petting zoo and all fun! Visit, feed and pet kangaroos, wallabies and wallaroos, llamas and alpacas, pygmy goats, ringtail lemurs, parrots, peacocks and other furry friends. Get up close and personal with some lovable alpacas and partake in some crafty projects with alpaca fleece at Alpacas from MaRS in Snohomish, or sleep in a yurt, shop alpaca goods and visit the animals at the Paca Pride Guest Ranch in Granite Falls. For those who just want to snuggle some cute, furry, farmyard friends, head to the in Forest Park Animal Farm in Everett to spend some quality time with goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, and horses! If you d rather not touch the critters, head to the Reptile Zoo in Monroe. Open 365 days a year, this zoo houses snakes, chameleons, lizards, scorpions and spiders, and big tortoises -- the most extensive collection of reptiles on display that you will find in the Pacific Northwest! For those who want a more hands-on experience, certain animals are available to touch and hold kids and adults alike are invited to hold small snakes (it s safe, we promise!) and pet gentle tortoises.
