CONSTRUCTION (3108B) 1. The finish color shall be white. 2. Lane lines shall be of a contrasting color. 3. Step edges shall be of a contrasting color. Tiles shall be slip-resistant and 1 inch - 2 inches wide. 4. Waterline tiles around the pool shall be of a contrasting color. 5. Tiles installed at the 4 FT 6 IN depth line shall be of a contrasting color. 6. No projections or recessed areas. B. POOL GEOMETRY (3109B) 1. Geometry of pool conforms to one of the appropriate diagrams at figures 31B-1 through 31B- 3. EXCEPTION: Special purpose pool may be exempted from construction standards that are not applicable to the proposed use. 2. Uniform water depth along entire base of stairs. C. PERMANENT MARKINGS (3110B) 1. No markings, designs or lettering shall be permitted on pool shell except for slip resistant lane marking, depth marking lines and safety markings. 2. Width of slip-resistant lane contrasting line markings at bottom of pool 12 inches inches - 6 inches wide slip-resistant contrasting color straight line across bottom of pool required at 4 ½ feet depth. EXCEPTION: Pools with depth 5 feet are exempt from requirement. 4. Depth markers required at (a) maximum depth, (b) minimum depth, (c) each end, (d) both sides at the shallowest and deepest part of the pool, (e) 4 ½ feet break in slope, (f) on perimeter at increments not exceeding 25 feet. *No Stickers or Painted letters/numbers 5. Depth markers shall have numerals 4 inches in height of contrasting color with the background and be marked in units of FT or IN (4 FT 6 IN not 4 ½ FT). D. STEPS, RECESSED STEPS, LADDERS, AND STAIRS (3111B) 1. If the vertical distance from the bottom of the pool to the deck > 1 foot in the shallow portion, steps or ladders are required. 2. If depth in deep portion > 4 ½ feet, a second means of entry & exit (steps, recessed steps, ladders, stairs, ramps or a combination of all) is required at the deep end. 3. If pool width > 30 feet, means of entry & exit are required on both sides at increments not exceeding 100 feet apart. 4. Ladders corrosion resistant, slip resistant tread surfaces, clearance to pool wall must be 3 inches - 5 inches. Tread 5 inches, Width 14 inches. Step risers uniform and 12 inches height. First step riser measured from the deck. Handrails on both sides and shall extend over coping or edge of deck. 5. Recessed steps Tread 5 inches, Width 14 inches. Step risers uniform and 12 inches height. First step riser measured from the deck. Handrails on both sides and shall extend over coping or edge of deck. 6. Stairs- Risers 6 inches - 12 inches. First Standard step tread 14 inches 18 inches wide and width 24 inches long or First Triangular step tread/convex step tread/concave step tread 21 inches 24 inches wide, measured at widest point. 5 7. Handrail extends from deck to a point above top of lowest step (deck to step). Top surface of handrail to top surface of deck and each step 28 inches - 36 inches. Distance between handrail and step riser 3 inches. E. LIGHTING (3115B) 1. Underwater lighting fixture must provide complete illumination to all areas of the pool with no blind spots for nighttime use. EXCEPTION: Overhead lighting fixtures acceptable as equivalent to underwater lighting fixtures only if equivalence demonstrated to enforcing agent F. SKIMMERS (3136B) (Pools < 5000 square feet) 1. One skimmer for each 500 ft 2, or fraction thereof, or enough to meet 100% pump flow, comply with NSF/ANSI performance standard. 2. Capable of withdrawing not less than 100% required recirculating capacity. 3. Built-in type and recessed into pool wall. 4. Adjust automatically to variations in water level, minimum range of 4 inches. 5. Screen or basket to trap objects and skimming weir. 6. Equalizers, if present, split at least 3 feet apart through a "T" fitting and covers meet ANSI/APSP performance standard in addition to meeting or exceeding the pump flow rate. 7. Located in relation to pool inlets to aid recirculation & surface skimming. (Example: Locate skimmers so that the prevailing wind (West-Northwest) blows into the skimmers) G. PERIMETER OVERFLOW (3136B.2) (Pools 5000 square feet) 1. Capable of withdrawing not less than 100% required recirculating capacity. 2. Channel outlet: Channel outlet spacing and channel bottom slope shall be hydraulically designed by an engineer or architect who has experience working on public pools. 3. Channel detail: Channel 3 inches deep; bottom width of channel 3 inches; opening beneath deck into channel 4 inches. 4. Channel lip: Channel lip 12 inches below top of deck; Top 2 inches of rounded lip edge 1 inch - 2 ½ inches. 5. Surge storage capacity: Surge tank storage capacity minimum 1 gallon per square foot of pool surface. Surge storage shall be permitted in the surge basin, perimeter overflow channel, and in the channel drain piping returning to the surge basin. 6. Automatic surge flow control to make-up water with manual override for maintaining pool water level. 7. Channel drain cover: Openings in channel outlet covers < ½ inch accessible for cleaning. 8. Channel drain piping: Provide drainage of overflow system, carry overflow water to surge basin and return to skimming within 10 minutes of being flooded by the replacement of pool water by users. H. OUTLET FITTINGS (3137B.1) 1. Each pool shall be provided with a main drain submerged suction outlet typically located at the bottom of a pool that conducts water to a recirculating pump. 2. At least two suction outlets 3 feet apart and hydraulically balanced and symmetrically plumbed. 3. Suction fittings meet ANSI/APSP performance standards. If covers require a sump, depth of the sump shall be as specified by the cover manufacturer or 1.5 times the pipe diameter, whichever is greater. If no sump is required, documentation of such from the manufacturer must be provided with the plans. 4. Velocity of suction piping between suction outlets 3 feet per second or 6 feet per second when one outlet is blocked. Page 5 of 22

6 5. Hydrostatic relief device in areas with high ground water. I. INLETS (3137B.2 & 3137B.2.4) 1. Minimum of 2 inlets for the first 10,000 gallons and one inlet for each additional 10,000 gallons or fraction thereof. 2. Located 18 inches below waterline. 3. Separated by at least 10 feet and shall be located to ensure uniform circulation. 4. Wall inlets must be adjustable for both flow and direction and protrude no more than 1 ¼ inches. 5. Pools greater than 40 feet in width or 3000 ft 2 surface area need floor inlets. Floor inlets shall be located to provide uniform circulation and be flushed with the floor. J. SOLAR HEATING (3139B) 1. Suction outlets shall comply with section 3137B. Suction outlets shall be split a minimum of 3 feet apart through a "T" fitting and be covered with approved drain covers. 2. Suction outlets shall be located no closer than 5 feet from any pool inlet fitting. 3. Solar system shall not interfere with required turnover rate nor exceed pipe flow velocities. DECK A. PERMANENT MARKINGS (3110B) 1. Depth markers required at (a) maximum depth, (b) minimum depth, (c) each end, (d) both sides at the shallowest and deepest part of the pool, (e) 4 ½ feet break in slope, (f) on perimeter at increments not exceeding 25 feet. *No Stickers or Painted letters/numbers 2. Slip-resistant, durable, and resistant to weathering depth markers required on pool edge of deck or coping no more than 3 feet from water. 3. Depth markers shall have numerals 4 inches in height of contrasting color with the background and be marked in units of FT or IN (4 FT 6 IN not 4 ½ FT). 4. Pool water depths 6 feet must have universal and slip-resistant No Diving markers symbols adjacent to each depth marker located on the deck. *No Stickers or Painted letters/numbers B. HANDHOLDS (3112B) 1. Located 9 inches above water level, around entire pool perimeter. 2. Bull-nosed coping or cantilevered decking with rounded slip resistant edges and overhang 1 inches - 2 inches and thickness 2 ½ inches. 3. For special use pools used for instruction or competitive swimming, perimeter overflow lip required. C. DIVING BOARDS AND PLATFORMS (3113B) 1. Anchored to pool deck, corrosion resistant, slip resistant. 2. If > 18 inches above deck, provide ladder or stairs for access. 3. If > 1 meter (39.37 inches) above water, provide hand rails on ladder or stairs and guard rails on both sides of diving board or platform. 4. If required, guard rails shall be 36 inches above diving board or platform. 5. Dimensions and clearances conform to Figures 31B-1 and 31B-2. D. DECKS (3111B.6, 3112B.3, 3114B) 1. 4 feet wide (measured from poolside edge of coping lip), slip resistant, cleanable, nonabrasive, concrete, flush with pool coping, surrounding pool and both sides and rear of diving board, fixed disabled access assistance device or slide and their appurtenances. *Materials other than concrete must be preapproved by this office 2. 6 feet clearance required between SPA and adjacent pool. 3. Deck sloping 1 % ( 1 /8 in./ft) - 2 % (¼ in./ft) away from pool to deck drainage system. Page 6 of 22

7 4. Deck covering not equivalent to concrete shall not be installed within 4 feet of pool. 5. Landscape plants, flower beds, unpaved areas shall not be located within 4 feet of spa. 6. Stress protection required at contact points of the deck and pool shell. Expansions joints and spaces must be sealed with approved caulking. E. LIGHTING (3115B) 1. Deck lighting for nighttime use must be provided at deck and emergency egress areas. F. HOSE BIBBS (3118B) 1. Provided at each pool and protected against backflow, within 75 feet of all deck areas. 2. Hose bibb shall be provided in equipment area. G. SKIMMERS (3136B) (Pools < 5000 square feet) 1. One skimmer for each 500 ft 2, or fraction thereof, or enough to meet 100% pump flow, comply with NSF/ANSI performance standard. 2. INDOOR VENTILATION (3121B) 1. Indoor pools shall be adequately ventilated (3121B and Chapter 4 of the California Mechanical Code). FENCING AND GATES A. FENCING AND GATES (3119B, Figures 31B-4 and 31B-5) 1. Provided at each pool and spa pool, enclosed by 5 feet height fence, wall, portion of a building, or enclosure, as measured from the outside. NOTE: Doors, openable windows, or gates of living quarters or associated private premises shall not be permitted as part of the pool enclosure. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July Page 7 of 22

8 RESCUE EQUIPMENT 1, 1994 but no fence enclosure shall be less than 4 feet in height. Installation of an enclosure which reduces pool deck to less than 4 feet wide around perimeter of existing pool may be allowed when physical characteristics of a site preclude the 4 feet wide deck around pool requirement. Fencing shall be constructed over hard and permanent material equivalent to concrete. 2. Openings, holes or gaps in or under the enclosure, doors and/or gates shall not allow the passage of a 4 inch diameter sphere. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Horizontal members shall be spaced at least 48 inches apart. Horizontal and diagonal member designs, which might serve as a ladder for small children, are prohibited. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, No planters/structures that can be climbed within 5 feet of outside of pool enclosure (common public area) or within a 5 foot arc. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Chain link openings are 1 ¾ inches measured horizontally. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Gates and doors shall be equipped with self-closing and self-latching devices located between 42 inches - 44 inches above the deck or walkway. EXCEPTION: Doors leading from areas of hotels and motels, as defined in the Business and Professions Code Section (b), which are open to the general public, e.g., restaurants, lobbies, bars, meeting rooms, and retail shops need not be self-latching. Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Gates and doors shall open outward away from the pool except where otherwise prohibited by law. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Gates and doors capable of being locked when pool is closed. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, Pool enclosure shall have at least one means of egress without a key. If not all doors/gates allow exiting without a key, those that do must have a sign in 4 inch high letters stating EMERGENCY EXIT. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, The enclosure shall be designed and constructed so that all persons will be required to pass through common pool enclosure gates or doors in order to gain access to the pool area. All gates and doors exiting the pool area shall open into a public area or walkway accessible by all patrons of the pool. EXCEPTION: Does not apply to pool enclosures constructed prior to July 1, 1994 A. SAFETY EQUIPMENT (65540) foot rescue pole with permanently attached body hook. Public pools > 75 feet length or > 50 feet width requires a total of two sets of rescue pole one on each opposite side. EXCEPTION: Enforcing agent may approve shorter pole based on configuration of spa inch minimum (exterior diameter) life ring with attached minimum 3-16 inch diameter rope. Rope shall span maximum width of pool. Public pools > 75 feet length or > 50 feet width requires a total of two sets of life ring one on each opposite side. 3. For public pools with lifeguard personnel on duty, the following equipment must be available: a Red Cross 10-person Industrial First Aid Kit, an operating telephone, a backboard and head immobilizer. 9 SAFETY SIGNAGE A. SIGNS (3120B) 1. Occupancy/Capacity Pool: 1 bather/20 square feet of water surface area; Minimum 4" tall font. 2. NO DIVING sign for pools 6 feet deep or less. Minimum 4" tall letters. 3. NO LIFE GUARD ON DUTY sign. Minimum 4" tall letters. The sign shall also state Children under the age of 14 shall not use pool without a parent or adult guardian in attendance in minimum 1" tall letters. 4. Artificial respiration procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation sign. Illustrated diagram with procedures in minimum ¼ tall letters. 5. Emergency sign. 911 in minimum 4" tall letters. Nearest emergency services number in minimum 1" tall letters. Pool facility name and address in minimum 1" tall letters. 6. SPA warning sign. "CAUTION" and "1. Elderly persons, pregnant women, infants and those with health conditions requiring medical care should consult with a physician before entering the spa. 2. Unsupervised use by children under the age of 14 is prohibited. 3. Hot water immersion while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, drugs or medicines may lead to serious consequences and is not recommended. 4. Do not use alone. 5. Long exposure may result in hyperthermia, nausea, dizziness or fainting" all in minimum 1" tall letters 7. "Emergency Shut-Off Switch" sign for spa. Minimum 1" tall letters. 8. NO USE OF POOL ALLOWED AFTER DARK (pools without lights or not all lights are functional) on gate entrance exteriors. Minimum 4" tall letters. 9. KEEP GATE/DOOR CLOSED sign shall be posted on the exterior side of gates and doors leading into the pool enclosure area. Minimum 4 tall letters 10. Diarrhea sign. Text that clearly states that persons with diarrhea and persons who have had diarrhea within the prior 14 days shall not enter the pool water. Posted at entrance area of pool w/ minimum 1" tall letters. 11. SPRAY GROUND: Visibly posted CAUTION: WATER IS RECIRCULATED. DO NOT DRINK. 12.Gaseous Oxidizer warning sign. DANGER: GASEOUS OXIDIZER- (SPECIFIC CHEMICAL NAME) warning sign with appropriate hazard identification symbol on exterior side of door entering chemical feeder room or area. Minimum 4" tall letters. 13. Turn On Before Entering Gas Chlorination Equipment Room Switch sign, TURN ON BEFORE ENTERING at light & ventilation switch. Minimum 4" tall letters. SHOWER, TOILET, DRESSING, AND DRINKING FACILITIES A. SHOWERS, DRESSING FACILITIES, AND TOILETS (3116B) 1. One bather/15 square feet of pool surface. Divide factor by 2 to determine sex distribution. (All pool area 15 2) = Males and Females 2. One shower/50 bathers. EXCEPTION: Showers and dressing facilities not required if available in adjacent living quarters. 3. One toilet/60 women; one toilet and urinal/75 men; one lavatory/80 bathers. EXCEPTION: Restrooms not required if they are available within 300 feet of pool at living quarters or adjacent building. 4. One lavatory/80 bathers. 5. Floors shall have hard, non-absorbent, slip-resistant surface; 5 inches integral coved base required (no carpet/artificial floor covering). 6. Floors sloped > ¼ inch per foot to drains or other approved surface disposals. 7. Walls and ceilings not adversely affected by moisture. 8. Doors and windows arranged to prevent viewing of interior. 9. Hot and cold water (or tempered water) to showers and lavatories. Page 9 of 22

10 10. Shower and lavatory temperature control which limits non-adjustable temperature to 110 F. 11. Dressing rooms and toilet rooms shall be vented. 12. Permanently mounted single-service soap, paper towel dispensers/hot air blowers, toilet paper dispensers at toilet facilities. 13. Permanently mounted soap dispensers at shower facilities. EXCEPTION: Decks showers are not required to have soap dispensers. 14. One waste receptacle in each toilet facility. B. INDOOR VENTILATION (3121B) 1. Dressing rooms and toilet rooms shall be adequately ventilated (3121B and Chapter 4 of the California Mechanical Code). C. DRINKING FOUNTAINS (3117B) 1. Guarded angle jet drinking fountains required unless water is available at adjacent living quarters or adjacent building. Number of fountains based upon one bather/15 square feet and computed at 1 fountain/250 bathers plus an additional fountain for each additional 200 bathers. MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT ROOM A. POOL EQUIPMENT ENCLOSURE (3122B) 1. Equipment to be mounted on concrete pad and sloped a minimum ¼ inch per foot to drain or other approved surface disposal (3122B). EXCEPTION: does not apply to pool constructed prior to January 1, Equipment installed so that access is limited to authorized persons (3122B). EXCEPTION: does not apply to pool constructed prior to January 1, All filters, valves, pumps, strainers, and equipment must be readily accessible for repair and replacement without the having to climb over equipment and/or piping B. RECIRCULATION SYSTEM, GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (3123B) 1. Each pool shall be provided with a separate recirculation (recirculation, filtration, and disinfection) system. 2. All equipment shall comply with NSF/ANSI performance standards and be installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions. C. TURNOVER TIME (3124B) 1. SPA: ½ hour. 2. Wading Pool: 1 hour. 3. Medical Pool: 2 hours. 4. Swimming Pool: 6 hours. 5. Spray ground: ½ hour. D. RECIRCULATION (3125B) 1. Flow velocity not to exceed 8 feet per second on return system and 6 feet per second on suction piping (3125B.1). *Note: Check manufacturer s recommendation for maximum GPM suction flow thru skimmer. 2. Pressure gauge (pounds per square inch-psi, usually under impeller) and vacuum gauge (inches of mercury-inches Hg, usually below strainer basket) for each pump system. The pressure gauge located on the filter shall be marked with the clean start up pressure reading. Gauges must have a scale range approximately 1 1/4 times maximum anticipated working pressure or vacuum and be accurate to within 2 percent scale. Gauges must be located so they can be easily read without having to climb over equipment or piping 3. Approved flowmeter on each recirculation system per manufacturer's written instructions and accurate within 10% of flow. Valves shall be installed on all recirculation backwashing and drain system lines which require shutoff isolation, adjustment, or control of the rate of flow. E. PUMP CAPACITIES DESIGN FLOW (3126B) 1. Pressure diatomaceous earth filter. 60 foot head. 2. Vacuum diatomaceous earth filter. 40 foot head and 20 inches vacuum on the suction side. 3. Rapid sand filter 45 foot head. 4. High rate sand filter 60 foot head. 5. Cartridge filter 60 foot head. F. WATER SUPPLY (3127B) 1. Permanently installed potable water supply line for both pools and spas. 2. No direct connection between any potable water supply and pool or its piping systems. Air gap, vacuum breaker, or double check valve attached to permanently installed line. 3. Automatic make-up water shall be provided to maintain proper pool water level. G. FILTER REQUIREMENT (3128B THROUGH 3132B) 1. Rapid Sand maximum filtration rate 3 gpm/ft 2 of filter area; backwash rate minimum 15 gpm/ft 2 of filter area. 2. Diatomaceous Earth maximum filtration rate 2 gpm/ft 2 of filter area. 3. High Rate Sand maximum and minimum filtration rate based on NSF/ANSI performance standard, backwash rate minimum 15 gpm/ft 2 of filter area. 4. Cartridge maximum filtration rate gpm/ft 2 or less as per manufacturer, approved wash down area required, extra set of filter elements available while existing filter elements being cleaned. 5. Approved type based on NSF/ANSI performance standard. H. CHEMICAL FEEDER (3133B) 1. Approved type based on NSF/ANSI performance standard. 2. Constructed with an adjustable output rate device to permit repeated adjustments. 3. Piping resistant to corrosion or chemical deterioration. 4. Interlocked with recirculation pump (flow switch(es) required) to prevent accidental chemical release. I. DISINFECTANT FEEDER (3134B) 1. Approved type based on NSF/ANSI performance standard and complies with chemical feeder requirements. 2. Delivers 3 lbs. 100% available chlorine/day/10,000 gallons. J. GAS CHLORINE ROOM (3135B) 1. Room not located below ground level or above first floor. 2. Entry door shall open to the exterior of the building and shall not open directly toward the pool or pool deck. 3. Mechanical exhaust ventilation systems shall be in compliance with CA mechanical Code. 4. Audible alarm capable of producing a sound level of at least 90 decibels and a visible alarm consisting of a strobe light mounted directly over the entrance to chlorine room. 5. Artificial illumination of at least 50 footcandles shall be provided in the room. 6. Switches for the control of mechanical ventilation and lighting shall be located adjacent to the entry door outside the room. 7. The gas chlorine feeding device shall be interlocked with pool recirculating pump. 8. The gas chlorine storage room shall not be used for the storage of items not related to use of gas Page 11 of 14

12 chlorine equipment. K. CLEANING SYSTEMS (3140B) 1. Portable. 2. Jet type (Must have approved Backflow Protection Device). L. WASTE DISPOSAL (3141B, 3132B) 1. Diatomaceous earth filters discharge into separation tank. Waste water from separation tank must discharge to sanitary sewer. 2. Sand Filters sump & drain pipes must have sufficient capacity to receive recirculation system backwash water without overflow of the sump receiver 3. Sight glass installed on the waste water discharge line. EXCEPTION: Not required if visible air gap connection to sewer is provided. 4. Approved cartridge filter wash down in pool equipment area. Permanently plumbed to sanitary sewer capable of receiving drainage from filter vessel. M. ELECTRICAL (Article #680) AND LIGHTING (3115B, 3160B) 1. Electrical equipment shall be bonded and grounded in accordance with CEC Underwater/Deck Lighting (Pool open at night). 3. GFCI required for underwater lights. N. SVRS (3162B) 1. Pools with single drains that are not unblockable must have SVRS, suction limiting vent system, gravity drainage system, automatic pump shut off, or any other system that is deemed, in accordance with federal law, to be equally effective at preventing or eliminating the risk of injury or death associated with the circulation system of the pool suction outlets. ADDITIONAL SPA REQUIREMENTS A. SPA REQUIREMENTS (3110B.4.1, 3111B.6, 3114B.5, 3138B, Figure 31B-6, Table 31B-6) 1. Aeration/jet system shall be separate from recirculation system and not interconnected with any other pool. 2. Surface area 250 square feet. 3. Water depth 2 feet - 4 feet 4. Labeled emergency shut off switch for control of both recirculation systems and aeration/jet system installed adjacent to spa within the enclosure 5. Water depth over SPA bench < 24 inches. 6. SPA bench width 12 inches - 24 inches. 7. Floor width between last step riser and bench bottom wall 24 inches. 8. Radius pinch points 6 inches. 9. At least two depth markers indicating maximum depth on water-line tile and coping or deck handrails required extending from deck to a point above top of lowest step (deck to step). Top surface of each handrail to top surface of deck and each step 28 inches - 36 inches. Spa step shall be located where the deck is at least 4 feet wide. 11. Landscape planters, flower beds, or similar unpaved areas shall not be located within 4 feet of spa. 12. Maximum allowable operating temperature 104 F 13. Finish in white or light color. 14. Bench and step edges shall be of a contrasting color. Tiles shall be slip-resistant and 1 inch - 2 inches wide. 15. SPA Capacity : 1 bather/10 square feet of water surface area. EXCEPTION: SPA exempt from return inlet location at 18 inches below waterline but still required to have inlets located to ensure uniform circulation. Page 12 of 22

EXCEPTION: Enforcing agent may approve shorter rescue pole length based on the unidque configuration of each spa. The length of the rescue pole shall be of sufficient length to effectuate rescue. WADING POOL A. WADING POOL (3110B, 3161B) 1. Water depth 18 inches circulation drains per pump that are hydraulically balanced and symmetrically plumbed, drains are 3 feet apart. 3. Antivortex grates on main drain suction outlets that are less than 12 inches across. 4. Flow velocity on suction system < 6 feet per second. 5. At least two depth markers indicating maximum depth on water-line tile and coping or deck. EXCEPTION: Wading pools exempt from return inlet location at 18 inches below waterline but still required to have inlets located to ensure uniform circulation. EXCEPTION: Handholds not required at wading pools. EXCEPTION: Occupancy/Capacity sign does not apply to wading pools. SPRAY GROUND A. SPRAY GROUND (3106B) 1. Spray Ground: Minimum 4000 gal or 3x flow rate all pumps combined, whichever is higher. 2. No standing water in the splash zone. 3. No safety hazards. 4. Minimum 4 ft. wide deck area around splash zone. 5. Nozzles that spray from the ground shall be flush with the ground, & openings no more than ½. 6. Water features that extend above the ground must be clearly visible. 7. Splash zone shall be sloped so that only water from the spray ground flows to surge pit. 8. Foggers & misters that produce finely atomized mists shall be supplied directly from potable water source. 9. Recirculation pump(s) & water feature pump(s) shall be interconnected so that when the recirculation pump is off, the water feature pump is also off. 10. Surge basin must be constructed of inert, corrosion resistant, nontoxic, watertight materialsconcrete, fiberglass, high density polyethylene, stainless steel, or other materials as approved by the enforcing agent. 11. Total volume of surge basin shall be at least 4,000 gallons or a minimum of 3 times the gallons per minute flow rate of all the feature pumps & recirculation pump combined, whichever is higher. 12. Turnover ½ hour (30 minutes) 13. Intake in the surge basin for the spray ground or feature pump(s) shall be located adjacent to the recirculation return line. Page 13 of 22

When separate pumps are used, the suction intake for the recirculation pump shall be located in the lowest portion of the surge basin on the opposite side from the suction intake for the spray ground pump. 15. Surge basin shall be designed for easy access with at least one ladder and one 3 x 3 opening. Lids shall be locked or require a tool to open. 16. Automatic make-up water fill device required. Must have air gap or other approved backflow protection. 17. Ultraviolet light disinfection required in addition to required disinfection. 18. Calibrated UV light meter shall be installed in the wall of the disinfection chamber at the point of greatest water depth from the light source. 19. UV light unit shall be located on the recirculation system to provide treated water directly to spray features. 20. UV disinfection system must be equipped with an automatic shutdown system that inactivates the water feature pump if the UV dosage rate drops below 40 mj/cm Artificial lighting provided for spray ground pads used at night. 22. A means of diverting storm water runoff from surge basin required when spray ground is not in operation. 23. A removable and cleanable catch screen or basket shall be installed on the spray ground drainage system before it enters the surge basin.
