1 2016 The Villas at Mill Run Newsletter President s Report Sue Nelson We welcome summer with the opening of the pool. Come for water aerobics with Marilyn Coe. Our Annual Meeting was held in April and was well attended. I was re-elected (Thank you!) and Judy Flowers was newly elected, replacing Nancy Whalen. Welcome to the Board, Judy, and thank you, Nancy! The current Board is: Sue Nelson, President Carol Jones, Secretary Alex Semons, Treasurer Jan Cox Judy Flowers Jim Schutte At the meeting, a resident brought up a concern that shrubs were growing above the height of our patio fences both inside and outside. There is no rule governing the height of shrubs in our Rules and Regulations. Benchmark trims the shrubs outside the fences, and owners are responsible for the inside trimming. There is a rule, however, which states that patios should be kept neat, clean, and in good repair. Now is a good time to be sure that your patio meets these requirements. We are planting five trees and replacing dead shrubs. Darryl Hutson is replacing shrubs along patio fences, and they will need watering through the summer. If you or a family member cannot water for you, please see if a neighbor can help you. To survive, the shrubs need a bucket of water a week through the summer. We have new cleaners for the clubhouse, who started in May. They will clean once a month through the year and twice a month during the summer on a Monday or Tuesday. Once a month, they will clean out the refrigerator. The street lights are being repaired by Jess Howard. Work will be starting as soon as they get the permit from the city of Hilliard. 2 Property Manager s Report June Clayman This summer will be a busy one at the Villas at Mill Run. All the buildings will be painted. The plan is to start by power washing all the buildings. This will begin the week of June 13, 2016, weather permitting. Paint4You is the company contracted to do the work. This is the same company that painted the fences last year. The painting will be done in phases. Paint4You will be putting flyers on your doors to let you know when it will be time for your building to be painted. They will also be identifying and replacing any rotten wood on exterior walls. If your unit is one of these, please remove any pictures or items off interior walls and mantels, as the nailing of the boards could cause the items to fall. If you would like to have them paint your garage door or your front door, you can talk to the supervisor on the property. They will give you a price for each. Dead or missing shrubs will be replaced along the fences and brick walls this week. Due to the painting, any other plantings will happen in the fall. The new storm drains that were installed will be leveled later this year. Originally, it was going to be done next year; however, the snow plows will damage them, so we want to get this completed before then. Please note this in your resident directory. Welcome, New Neighbors! LouAnn Regula Our community welcomes Shirley Boggess, who moved to 3715 Mill Stream Dr. in April. Shirley was born and raised in West Virginia. She moved to the Columbus area in l972. Isabel is her 3-year-old granddaughter, whom she babysits frequently. Isabel lives with her parents in Dublin. Shirley worked as a banker for 30 years, 10 years in industry, and for a defense contractor, who developed software for the army. Her interests and hobbies are walking, reading, and traveling. She is anxious to meet new friends. We also welcome Bob Taggart, who moved to 3703 Mill Stream in March. Unit for Sale The unit at 3740 Mill Stream is for sale by owner. For more information, call

3 Swimming Pool For many of us, our swimming pool is an important component of the summer. It opened as expected last Saturday, and many people have already enjoyed it. We even got mid-summer style downpours to boot. Pool hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. As always, any pool concerns should be addressed to our property manager, June Clayman, We d like to remind you of some pool etiquette and courtesy, as well as the written rules regarding pool use. Dry off before entering the restrooms and turn off the restroom lights after use. Lock the gate(s), if you are the last one leaving, regardless of time of day. If chairs are moved, please put them back where they were. Close umbrellas after use. Check to be sure the clubhouse doors are locked. Take all your trash home with you. If you see rules being ignored, politely remind the offenders of the rules. If rule violations continue, please report them to the Board, via June Clayman, The pool belongs to all of us in this community, and we want everyone to enjoy it! And following are the rules as found in the current Rules and Regulations: The pool is for the exclusive use of the Villas residents and their guests. Any person, who cannot be identified as a resident, or who is not accompanied by a resident, will be asked to leave the pool area. The pool season opens Memorial Day weekend and closes Labor Day weekend. Pool hours will be posted. There is no lifeguard. All persons using the pool and pool facilities do so at their own risk and sole responsibility. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult resident. Guests are limited to six (6) per household and must be accompanied by a resident at all times. The following are PROHIBITED: Glass or other breakable items Animals or pets Rafts, inner tubes, large objects in the pool Private pool parties Running, jumping, or diving in the pool area Excessive noise, splashing, or loud radios Disruptive behavior in the pool area Swimming is permitted only in garments sold as swim wear. Children must be potty-trained or wearing a waterproof swim diaper to enter the pool. Lounge chairs or tables may not be reserved. The pool area is not to be used after closing time.

4 Library Before you head for the pool, don t forget to grab a book from the Clubhouse library. There s something there for everyone, and it s always in good order thanks to our librarian, Sylvia Roberts. Water Aerobics Marilyn Coe began her free water aerobics class on Memorial Day. There were eight exercisers at the first session. It is held every Monday and Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Everyone is welcome, especially new members. Just show up ready to jump in and exercise. It s a good way to start your day and meet your neighbors. Random Reminders One of our neighbors has noticed many mailboxes hanging open, which could lead to rust. Take an extra moment to make sure your mailbox is closed tightly after retrieving your mail. If your mailbox is defective, please report this to June Clayman, Garage doors have also been left open for long periods of time, exposing garage contents. This could be very tempting to thieves. The Hilliard police urge everyone to keep their garage closed when not in use. With the summer season upon us, and Memorial Day behind us, it s good to remember what our Rules say regarding the display of the American flag: The American flag may be displayed on the permanent attachment of a pole-mounting bracket located inside the patio fence. The American flag is to be flown following flag protocol. This means that it should not be left out at night, unless lit, or in inclement weather. Here is a website you may wish to refer to for more information: Also with the summer come joggers and dog walkers outside our property on Mill Run Drive. Be sure to stop before you reach the sidewalk when driving out, and look both ways. Joggers, especially, appear very suddenly! And were you one of many who put their trash out this past Monday evening? Remember that if a holiday falls on Monday, trash collection is put off one day. July 4 falls on Monday this year, so the trash goes out the evening of the 5 th, Tuesday, for Wednesday collection. Memorial Day and Labor Day are always Monday holidays. Please remember to water the new shrubs planted this week!! Keep them watered all summer, so they establish themselves and continue to add beauty to our community. If you are unable to do it yourself, please ask a neighbor for help. That s what neighbors are for.

5 Lunch Bunch Come join this fun bunch for lunch on Wednesday, June 15 th, 1:00 p.m. at the Rusty Bucket on Britton Parkway. We are a welcoming group of 12 to 15 people, sometimes more. Recently, we ve lunched at Spageddies and Louie s Grill. It s a great way to meet your neighbors and make new friends. And, gentlemen, we are an equal opportunity group, so join in the fun as well! The book we are reading for the June meeting is The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. Recently we enjoyed The Girls of Atomic City, a novel set at the Oak Ridge nuclear bomb plant during WWII; The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty; and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Anne Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
