(425) Dates: April 13- April 17, 2017 TRIAL BACKGROUND The Junior International Trials (JIT) is not an entry level tournament for novice or intermediate level players. The objective of this tournament is to determine the best and highest ranked junior badminton athletes who intend to compete at World Junior Championships ( WJC ) and Pan Am Junior Championships (PAJC). The Junior International Trials (JIT) is primarily used to select junior athletes to represent USA Badminton at the 2017 World Junior Championships (U19) and Pan Am Junior Championships Team Event (U19) and the Individual Event (U11, U13, U15, U17, U19). This is the last year for U11 to be included in JIT. The JIT results may also be used to select junior athletes for other USAB Projects such as International Junior competitions or other training projects which require national qualification. Athletes desiring to compete in an Individual event(s) in any age group must submit an entry for those events, even if not competing for the Team(s). Note: There is no USAB funding designated for this International event. The Trial results will be used for the rank order of the players/teams and be submitted to the Badminton Pan America Confederation (BPAC) or the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The Trial results will NOT generate US junior ranking points. USAB reserves the right to select and revoke athletes at its sole discretion including but not limited to the athlete s misconduct, membership status with USAB, BWF or BPAC, injury, health of the individual and/or Team. World Junior Championships Venue: Jogyakarta, Indonesia (October 9-22, 2017) The World Junior Championships (WJC) Team Event format is a mixed team event, consist of one (1) Boy s Singles, one (1) Girl s Singles, one (1) Boy s Doubles, one (1) Girl s Doubles, and one (1) Mixed Doubles. Team Event (Oct 9-15): USAB will select four (4) boys and four (4) girls for the WJC. Individual events (Oct 16-22): The typical BWF WJC slots per event for USA is 3 Boy s Singles players, 3 Girl s Singles players, 2 Boy s Doubles pairs, 2 Girl s Doubles pairs, and 3 Mixed Doubles pairs. Note: The exact slots-per-event allocation is determined by BWF Junior International Trial 1

2 Pan Am Junior Championships Venue: Markham, Canada (July 21-28, 2017) Team Event: The Pan Am Junior Championships (PAJC) Team Event format consists of one (1) Boy s Singles, one (1) Girl s Singles, one (1) Boy s Doubles, one (1) Girl s Doubles, and one (1) Mixed Doubles matches. Team Event: USAB will select four (4) boys and four (4) girls for the PAJC. Individual events: The typical Badminton Pan America Confederation (BPAC) PAJC slots per event in each age group (U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19) is 4 Boy s Singles players, 4 Girl s Singles players, 2 Boy s Doubles pairs, 2 Girl s Doubles pairs, and 4 Mixed Doubles pairs. USAB will select the top finishers in the U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups in the 2017 JIT as described below. Note: The exact slots-per-event allocation is determined by BPAC. USAB s pool play rules require that an athlete must complete all of his/her pool matches in order to be credited with a final group position and to have the chance to move on to any playoff round. Each player may enter a maximum of 3 events. USAB seriously recommend players participate up to 2 events to avoid fatigue and injury. Players cannot play in more than one Singles event, one Doubles event (Boys or Girls), and one Mixed Doubles event. The events entered cannot span more than 2 age groups e.g., U13 BS U15 BD U13 MX is OK, but U13 GS U15 GD U17 XD is not OK. Note that there is no Partner Request option for JIT Junior International Trial 2

3 ENTRY & DEADLINE Entries must be made online at by March 2, :59 PM MST. Entries include Event fees (see Fees section), Tournament Documents and passport photo (not less than 150kb) Tournament Documents (copy of passport and/or birth certificate) and passport photo (not less than 150kb) must be done online at by March 2, :59 PM MST. LATE ENTRIES and other forms of entry WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. VALID ENTRY In order for the entry to valid, make sure that the following are met: The Player is signed up through The player is signed up and pays the entry fees by March 2, :59 PM MST. If the player has signed up for a doubles and/or a mixed doubles event, then make sure that the partner(s) know about this and that they also sign up for and pay the entry fees by March 2, :59 PM MST. Note that there is NO Partner Request option for JIT. Check 1 for PAJC only ($150), Check 2 for PAJC Only ($240) & Check 3 for WJC Only ($90) are submitted to the JIT Tournament Director at Registration (for more information on the checks, see JIT Tournament Fees & Deposits page 6 & 7). SIGNING UP FOR DOUBLES & MIXED DOUBLES If you are confirming for Doubles or Mixed Doubles, please take note of the following: Your partner must have created a Simply Compete account first, before he/she can be selected as a partner. Once the partner is selected, the partner will receive an invitation to his/her . The partner must accept the invitation and then pay the entry fees before the partnership is confirmed. No unconfirmed entries will be accepted. SIGNING UP REMINDER If you already have a USAB account on Simply Compete: You do NOT have to create a new account. Parents are requested to update both the player s and parents contact details in their profile. Remember the you registered for the account as this is the User ID. If you forgot your password, click on the link for Forgot Password and a password reset link will be sent to your user ID that is registered in the player s profile. If you do not have a USAB account on Simply Compete, Please create an account by signing up and paying for USAB membership and the entry fee online through the USAB Online system at this link Parents are requested to update both the player s and parents contact details in their profile. Take note that each account on Simply Compete requires a unique user ID ( ). You cannot share s for other people s accounts. USING SIMPLY COMPETE Simply Compete recommends using the latest version of these supported browsers Chrome, Firefox, Safari. Using older browser versions may prevent you from using certain features of Simply Compete that are essential for JIT registration. Instead, always use the latest version of your browser since old browsers are more vulnerable to security threats like viruses and malware. 4 You will need a working to sign up and for your account to be activated; you will be required to verify the account from your . Upon doing that, login and complete your profile, upload your photo and required Tournament Documents (copy of passport or birth certificate), and then sign up for the event and/or events. Recommended Steps o Click on the "Athlete Sign Up" button at the top left and create an account with a valid address. o You will receive an confirmation, please confirm your address by clicking on the link you receive in the . o Login using the address and password. o Upon login, upload Tournament Documents (copy of passport and/or birth certificate) and passport photo in JPEG or PDF (but PDF is the preferred format). o At the Athlete Dashboard, please go to "Manage Tournament Entries". o Click on "Sign Up" o Select the events you would like to participate in. o Provide your credit card information, click on "Pay and Sign Up". o You should receive an with a receipt. Please verify that everything looks correct, and you are done! Technical Problems: o Should you have a technical problem, contact the Tournament Director or click on the Report A Problem link at the bottom right hand corner of the Simply Compete homepage to provide feedback on issues. We will be in touch with you as soon as possible to assist you. o The following examples are not technical issues such as: how do I create an account, how do I apply for coaching credentials, I applied but the system shut down because it was past entry deadline, and other redundant s will not receive a response. Duplicate Accounts: o If you forgot your user ID ( registered for the USAB account on Simply Compete) or your password, DO NOT create a new account. This may affect your child s ranking. o If you forgot your user ID ( ) click on the forgot username on Simply Compete. o If you forgot your password, you can click on forgot password on Simply Compete. Important Notice: 1. Do NOT wait until the last minute to sign up for the 2017 JIT through Simply Compete. Sign up as soon as possible so that if technical issues come up there will be enough time to address them. USAB 2. It is not Membership a technical issue & if US one Citizenship enters at the last minute and the online system shuts down because it is past the Athletes deadline. must be U.S. citizens at the time of signing up for the JIT. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Athletes must be USAB members in good standing at the time of signing up JIT and throughout the Trial. Parents are responsible to ensure that the athlete s USAB Membership is current at the time of registration and throughout the JIT. Parents are responsible to provide proof of U.S. citizenship for the child/children by uploading Tournament Documents (copy of passport and/or birth certificate and/or any other document accepted by USAB/USOC) and passport photo (not less than 150kb) at by March 2, :59 PM MST. Note that Green Card holders are not eligible for the JIT as the Badminton World Federation allows only citizens to represent a country at the World Junior Championships and/or the Pan Am Junior Championships Junior International Trial 4

5 How to Qualify for the 2017 Junior International Trial Qualification by Junior Ranking as of 03/02/2017 will be used for entry into the 2017 JIT. The size of each event will be capped as shown below. The event cap sizes are as follows: U11 BS ~ 16 U13 BS ~ 20 U15 BS ~ 20 U17 BS ~ 20 U19 BS ~ 16 U11 GS ~ 16 U13 GS ~ 20 U15 GS ~ 20 U17 GS ~ 20 U19 GS ~ 16 U11 BD ~ 8 U13 BD ~ 8 U15 BD ~ 10 U17 BD ~ 8 U19 BD ~ 8 U11 GD ~ 8 U13 GD ~ 8 U15 GD ~ 10 U17 GD ~ 8 U19 GD ~ 8 U11 MX ~ 16 U13 MX ~ 16 U15 MX ~ 20 U17 MX ~ 16 U19 MX ~ 16 If the overall entry is lower than expected and court time permits, then the caps in select events may be increased from the numbers given above at the discretion of the Referee and Tournament Advisory Group (TAG). Any U.S. citizen may enter provided they are under the age limit on 12/31/2017 and that the events entered satisfy the event combination conditions on page 2. Entries and Tournament Documents (copy of passport and/or birth certificate) and passport photo must be done online at by March 2, :59 PM PST By March 9, 2017 the Junior Ranking Group (JRG), the Trial Referee with the International Events Coordinator, will ascertain if any events have more entries than the cap and will finalize the accepted entries for each event. If the number of entries for a particular event is too large based on the cap size, then the JRG will use the Junior Rankings as March 2, 2017 to determine the entries that can be accepted into the event. The JIT is not an entry level tournament for novice players. Therefore, a player with no ranking in a given event is considered a novice. If an event has not filled its cap, and a player documents experience e.g., a player who was ranked the year before but has been out of country he/she will be considered by JRG for an otherwise unfilled entry slot. Players are strongly encouraged to enter even if their current ranking falls below the cap e.g., a player ranked 24 for an event capped at 16, since players with a higher ranking may choose not to enter due to a scheduling conflict, injury, lack of interest etc. If a player is not accepted into JIT because of capping, then the entry fee and deposit will be refunded (but not the Simply Compete admin fee). JIT TOURNAMENT FEES & DEPOSITS The JIT fees consist of: JIT FEES 1. Tournament Fees - These fees include the JIT Entry Fee, Coaching Fee, and Technical Official Fee. All the above fees must be paid online at the time of signing up for JIT as well as the Simply Compete processing fee per agreement with USA Badminton. This processing fee is nonrefundable. JIT Entry Fee The entry fee is $50 per player per event. Coaching Fee Each player participating in the JIT will be charged a $50 fee for the USAB Junior Coaching Fund. The fees will cover the coach expenses for the Pan Am Juniors (PAJC). World Juniors (WJC) Coaching fee is included in check Junior International Trial 5

6 Technical Official Fee Each player participating in the JIT will be charged a $5 fee for the USAB Tournament Officiating Fund. Total Amounts Due Adding the amounts described above along with the Simply Compete processing fee gives the total amounts payable per player at the time of signing up on Simply Compete as follows: o $ for 1 event, o $ for 2 events, and o $ for 3 events. How and When To Pay JIT Entry, Coaching & Tournament Officiating Fees Entry Fees, Coaching Fees, Technical Officials Fees, and Processing Fee must be paid online at the time of signing up at by March 2, :59 PM MST. LATE ENTRIES and other forms of entry or payment WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 2. If selected for PAJC, and the player confirms, but later turns down (other than a medically confirmed reason), the check will be cashed and added to the Junior Development Funds WJC DEPOSITS Conditions The WJC is an event that requires a more extensive preparation as it is a world-class event. USAB requires signing up participants who are serious registrants unlike in the past when some participants signed up for the U19 age group in the JIT merely to experience a higher level competition against other top juniors in the same age category. Hence, in order to participate in the JIT and to be considered for the WJC, check 3 is a non-refundable Registration Fee. Check 3 will be cashed and used to cover the WJC attire, other WJC general administration expenses, Pre-WJC training expenses and the Junior Development Funds. 1. If selected for the WJC, and the player goes to the WJC, the check will be cashed and used for Pre-WJC training, assistant coach's travel expenses, etc. 2. If selected for WJC, and player confirms, but later turns down (other than a medically confirmed reason), the check will be cashed and used for Pre-WJC training, assistant coach's travel; expenses, etc. PARENTS - IMPORTANT REMINDER: For Entries to be VALID, the following checks must be submitted to the JIT Tournament Director at registration U-19 Players who would like to be considered only for the PAJC must submit Check 1 & Check 2 U-19 Players who would like to be considered only for the WJC must submit Check 3 U-19 Players who would like to be considered for the PAJC & WJC must submit Check 1, Check 2 & Check 3 U11, U13, U15 & U17 Players must submit Check 1 & Check 2 Where and When To Mail The Deposit Check 4: ($250) WJC Confirmation Check ) This check must be made payable to USA BADMINTON. 8 JUNIOR COACHING CREDENTIAL COACHING CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS USA Badminton continues in its efforts to bring coaching standards up to those in other parts of the badminton world and also meet the USOC demands for sports to upgrade their coaching system and structure. Beginning in 2013, coaches were required to have coaching credentials/badges at all USAB sanctioned junior events such as the U.S. Junior National Badminton Championships, Super Regional, and Junior International Trials (JIT). In the long run as per other major sports in the U.S., USAB will also require a coach to have an appropriate level of certification. This process has been introduced in stages. The junior coaching credential is a license for USAB members in good standing who meet the requirements to coach at USB sanctioned junior ranking tournaments. Beginning in this JIT (2017), only certified USAB Level 1 or higher High Performance (HP) coaches will be allowed to coach at this event. All qualified HP coaches must submit his/her request of the intention to coach at this event to USAB (Mohan Subramaniam.) by March 10th, 2017 at internhpc.usab@gmail.com. Late request will not be accepted. MANDATORY CONDITIONS Only USAB Certified Level 1 or higher HP coaches are allowed to sit on the coaches chair. No one is allowed to coach if he/she does NOT have a credential (badge). USAB Certified HP coaches must make sure they meet all requirements (active memberships, background check, and etc.) to maintain an active HP Certification Coaching Credentials CANNOT be shared with someone else. If someone is caught sharing credentials and/or using a fake coaching credential badge, his/her coaching credential badge will be confiscated by tournament Referee (or by the Technical Officials as instructed by him/her). APPLICATION All qualified HP coaches who plan to attend 2017 JIT must be submitted his/her request of the intention to coach at this event to USAB (Mohan Subramaniam.) by March 10th, 2017 at internhpc.usab@gmail.com to obtain a special credential. Late requests will not be accepted. An application does not mean that it is confirmation of being credentialed. If a member is not in good standing USAB reserves the right to not approve the application. Criteria for approval: o USAB member in good standing at the time of applying o Has a current approved background check on file at the time of applying o Coach has been certified as a High Performance Coach When applying HP coaches must include the following in their o Name as registered in their USAB profile in Simply Compete o USAB ID o registered in their USAB profile in Simply Compete 2017 Junior International Trial 8

The Simply Compete Process Fees will not be refunded if an athlete withdraws at any time; 2. If an athlete withdraws before the entry deadline, the Tournament Fees (Entry Fees, Coaching Fee, and Technical Official Fee) will be refunded. 3. If an athlete withdraws after the entry deadline but before the draw date other than a medically supported reason, the Tournament Fees (Entry Fees, Coaching Fee, and Technical Official Fee) will not be refunded; 4. If an athlete withdraws after the draw date for any reason whatsoever, the Tournament Fees (Entry Fees, Coaching Fee, and Technical Official Fee) will not be refunded; 5. If an athlete s entry is not accepted into the JIT due the cap size, the Tournament Fees (Entry Fees, Coaching Fee, and Technical Official Fee) will be refunded. 6. If the athlete is selected for the PAJC and/or WJC, the parent will ensure that the athlete will abide by the team regulations including attending team training, staying at the official hotel during the PAJC/WJC and meeting deadlines for documents sent by the USAB National Office, Team Managers and/or the JIEPC. By submitting the online entry managed by Simply Compete, for the 2017 USAB Junior International Trial (JIT), the participant (and parent(s)/guardian(s) if participant is of minority age) affirm that having read this document and agrees to be bound by its terms including accepting the BWF, USAB regulations and procedures. As the parent, guardian, coach, I acknowledge the following: I am responsible to review and understand the Pan American Junior Championships & BWF World Junior Championships Selection & Approval Procedures; If an athlete qualifies for the 2017 JIT, the parent shall confirm participation as per the deadline; if there is an emergency whereby the athlete has to communicate with any USAB Officials, Tournament Director, HAPG and/or JAG, their parent/ legal guardian must be copied in the correspondences. USAB Officials, Tournament Director, HAPG and/or JAG reserve the right to not respond to any junior athlete s which does not include their parents/ legal guardian in their Junior International Trial 10

11 AGREEMENT & WAIVERS USA Badminton Waiver & Release of Liability ATTENTION PARENTS: By submitting the online entry managed by Simply Compete, for the 2017 USAB Junior International Trial (JIT), the participant (and parent(s)/guardian(s) if participant is of minority age) affirms that having read this document and agrees to be bound by its terms. In consideration of my involvement at the 2017 USAB Junior International Trial (JIT) under the auspices of USA Badminton and Bellevue / Harbour Pointe Badminton Club, I acknowledge, appreciate, and agree that 1. I risk bodily injury, including paralysis, dismemberment, disability, and death, and while particular rules of the sport, equipment, and discipline may reduce this risk, this risk of injury does exist, as well as the risk of damage to or loss of property. 2. I knowingly and freely assume all such risk; both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the releases of others; 3. I willingly agree to comply with the state and customary terms and conditions for participation. If, however, I observe any unusual or unnecessary hazard during my presence or participation or if I observe any concern in my readiness for participation, I will immediately bring such to the attention of the nearest official and refrain from participation; and 3a. I, for myself, and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release, hold harmless and promise not to sue USA Badminton, the committee, their sponsors, their officers, volunteers, staff, sponsors and/or agents, ( releasees ) with respect to any and all injury and loss arising from my participation, whether caused by the negligence of the releasees, the condition of the premises or otherwise, except that which is the result of gross negligence or wanton misconduct, to the fullest extent permitted by law. 4. I agree to be bound by the rules and regulations of the Badminton World Federation and those of USA Badminton and I hereby stipulate that I am eligible to play in the events for which I am applying and that I understand that the above mentioned make no representation or warranty with respect to the condition of the premises or the operation of the event. 5. I hereby grant to USA Badminton, it s licensees and contractees including photographers, television and motion picture rights including to film or videotape me during matches, narratives, personal interviews, or comment thereon for any and all commercial, news or other purposes together with the right to transfer or grant their rights to others, all without remuneration or compensation to me whatsoever.
