5 12. Prize Money: USA Badminton is able to offer $120,000 in prize money at the 2013 YONEX/OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships. This money will be allocated in accordance with BWF rules governing Grand Prix events. The Organizer is responsible to deduct amounts in accordance to the local withholding tax law prior to the payments. 13. Registration: Registration will take place at the Orange County Badminton Club on Sunday, July 7, 2013 and Monday, July 8, Shuttlecocks: The Yonex Aerosena is the official shuttlecock for the 2013 YONEX/OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships. Practice shuttlecocks will be available at minimal cost from the supplier at the competition venue. 15. Conditions of Play: The 2013 YONEX/OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships will be conducted under the conditions as laid down by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) governing BWF Grand Prix Events (in the event of dispute, the decision of the Tournament Referee will be final). 16. Entry & Closing Date for International Entries: All international players must enter through their respective Member Associations. BWF is implementing the Online Entry System for this tournament and we seek Member Associations cooperation to ensure all entries are submitted before the closing date Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 23:59 hours BWF Headquarters time (+08:00h) No entry forms are required by Member Association. 6 Member Associations will require a username and password to submit your entries and this can be obtained from the BWF. Please contact BWF Event Manager, Mr. Venugopal Mahalingam at v.mahalingam@bwfbadminton.org. The online entry page will close immediately on the entries closing date Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 23:59 hours BWF Headquarters time (+08:00h GMT) and you are required to submit the entries on time. Late entries will not be accepted. After the closing date, the BWF Online Entry System will send notification to all participating Member Associations confirming receipt of final entries. Receipt of this notification is the conclusive evidence of receipt of entries before the deadline. The Member Associations should contact BWF immediately if such notice is not received by the Wednesday (next day of the entries closing date) by noon BWF Headquarters time (+08.00h GMT) following close of entries. If no objection is received by BWF by Thursday (second day after the entries closing day) hours BWF Headquarters time (+08.00h GMT) following the close of entries, the entries shall be deemed to be correct. No complaints / objections shall be entertained after this point. 17. Entry & Closing Date for USA Badminton Members: Entry is open to any current member of USA Badminton in good standing who has a BWF # ID registered in their USAB profile. Please note that only USAB players with a BWF # ID are registered on the BWF Active Player Database. USAB is implementing the Online Entry System for this tournament. Players who intend to register for this tournament must ensure that they have a working in order to receive a payment and entry confirmation . Entry Deadline: The entry deadline for USA Badminton Members is Tuesday June 4, 2013 at 11:59 MST. No late entries will be accepted. CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO REGISTER ONLINE FOR 2013 YONEX / OCBC U.S. OPEN: Entry Fee: The entry fee for one or two events is $120 per player; for three events is $180 per player. Full entry fee must be paid online at the time of registration. No other forms of payment will be accepted. Confirmation of Entry & Payment: o Registering players will receive an confirmation generated by the USAB Online Entry System and it will include: events entered and for doubles, partners selected as well as the amount paid online. o Receipt of payment and entry confirmation is the conclusive evidence of receipt of entries before the deadline. 6

7 Validity of Entry: o Only U.S. registrant/registrants who have paid o The registrant has current USAB Membership at the time of registering and after the entry deadline. Once draws are published all entry fees are not refundable except for non-placement in the draws. Entries withdrawn before draws are published will be assessed a $40 service fee. (See Section # 18 for Withdrawal Procedures) USAB entries will be entered into the draws in order based on: o BWF ranking o USAB ranking o Random draw by BWF Placement in the draws, including qualifications, is not guaranteed due to the maximum entries limits. For Doubles and Mixed Doubles: o There is no provision for partner request for Doubles and Mixed Doubles. o When entering doubles, it is advisable that the registering player knows: that the partner has a current USAB membership the partner s USAB Number # o A player who intends to compete in doubles and mixed doubles must register with a partner who is a current USAB member with a BWF # ID. o Both players of a pair must register (enter and pay entry fee) separately. o Once a player has been selected, the selected player cannot be chosen by another registrant. o The partnership becomes valid only when both players have registered successfully (both players have paid) If you are a U.S. Citizen and have never competed for the U.S., you must: o join USAB as a Member online through this link: o must obtain a BWF ID #. In order to do that, complete a new player profile (locate form on the 2013 Yonex OCBC Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships on the USAB Event Page) or click this link for the form: BWF New Player Profile When completing the form, type in CAPITAL and save in WORD FORMAT. the completed form and copy of your passport (in pdf) to Lauren LeQuire at lauren.lequire@usabadminton.org and copy Mohan Subramaniam at mohan@usabadminton.org by Monday May 6, 2013 to request a BWF ID. You are advised to use your legal name for the BWF # ID. Note that the process may be time consuming as it involves the USAB National Office communicating with the BWF to obtain a BWF # ID. As such, USAB National Office does not guarantee that neither they nor the BWF will be able to approve the BWF ID in time. 7

The decision involves the BWF and the applicant s previous member association. For further information check: o General Competiton Regulations o BWF GCR # 8 & 9 - Athlete Representation & Jurisdiction International Partnership (partnering a player from a different country) International partnerships in the 2013 Yonex / OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Badminton Championships can occur in the following ways: 1. A foreign player may request to partner a U.S. player: A foreign player may request to partner a U.S. player through his/her Member Association: o Such a request from a Member Association will have a pending status until USAB approves or denies the request. USAB s decision will be based on the following factors Current status of the U.S. player s USAB membership Current Status of the U.S. player with regards to BWF Whether the U.S. player has entered the 2013 Yonex/OCBC U.S. Open and received a payment and entry confirmation generated by the system. 8

9 (NOTE: THE U.S. PLAYER MUST REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE REQUESTED EVENT BY THE DEADLINE TUESDAY, June 4, 2013 AT 11:59PM MST WITH NO EXCEPTIONS) Please be aware, it may take up to two business days for the U.S. player to register for this event which is their responsibility. It is advised that the foreign player and U.S. player discuss their partnership in advance in order for the U.S. player to enter and pay for the event before the deadline. Requesting for a U.S. partner does NOT guarantee that the entry is confirmed. If the U.S. player does not register his/her entry with the foreign player through the USAB online entry system by the deadline, the request will be changed from Pending to Denied. However, this does not affect the U.S. player s other events as they will still be valid. Once the partnership has been approved by USAB, the U.S. player will be informed of the confirmation by . The US player must ensure that the he/she has registered in the USAB profile is a current one where he/she can be contacted. USAB shall NOT be responsible if his/her is not current and cannot be reached. 2. A U.S. player may request to partner a foreign player: In order to be paired with the foreign player, the U.S. player must register and pay online. (NOTE: THE U.S. PLAYER MUST REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE REQUESTED EVENT BY THE DEADLINE TUESDAY, June 4, 2013 AT 11:59pm MST WITH NO EXCEPTIONS). The U.S. player will need to select the Foreign Player tab and complete the information portion pertaining to their partner. The information requested by the system includes: o Full name as registered with the BWF (First and Last Names) o Gender o Date of birth o Country of representation o BWF ID# The foreign player will NOT be charged for a USAB Membership or U.S. Open registration fees. However, the U.S. player MUST make full payment online for him/herself at the time of registering for the entry to be considered valid. It is advised that the foreign player and U.S. player discuss their partnership in order for the U.S. player to enter and pay for the event before the deadline. Requesting for a foreign partner does NOT guarantee that the entry is confirmed. Once the foreign player s Member Association approves the request, USAB National Office will confirm the entry and update the US Player by . The US player must ensure that the he/she has registered in the USAB profile is a current one where he/she can be contacted. USAB shall NOT be responsible if his/her is not current and cannot be reached. If the partnership is not approved and the US player now only competes in one or two events, USAB will credit the balance of the entry fee. 18. Withdrawals: For International Entries Withdrawal regulations and penalties will be based on BWF Regulations. Withdrawals can only be made through the Member Association. Before the deadline, a Member Association can withdraw through the BWF online entry system. 9

Withdrawals after the draw is made due to illness or injury must be supported by a medical certificate. Withdrawals after players arrive in venue city must be made by notification of withdrawal at the Team Manager s Meeting or to the Referee in writing. Clothing: Color, design, lettering and advertising on players clothing shall be regulated by General Competition Regulations 19 to 23. In particular, the following shall be noted; o It is mandatory for doubles partners to wear the same color from the start of the main draw onwards. o It is mandatory that, from the main draw onwards, the opposing players/pairs in each match wear different colors from each other. In the event of a breach to GCR and , the player/pair ranked lower or listed lower in the M&Q report, whichever the case may be, will be required to change the color of clothing. o The name of the player on the back of the shirt is mandatory. o The name of the player s country on the back of the shirt is optional. o Lettering shall be in capital letters in the Roman alphabet and shall be placed, as close to horizontal as possible, near the top of the shirt. o The country name must be a maximum height of 5 centimetres. (Effective 1 st January 2013). o Lettering sequence on the shirt from top to bottom shall be player name, country name (if present) and advertisement (if present). o Advertising on players clothing shall comply with GCR 23.2 to 23.5 In applying General Competition Regulations 19 to 23, the decision of the Referee shall be final. 20. Practice Facilities: Practice times at the venue from Sunday onwards may be requested from the Orange County Badminton Club before the event starts, or by completing the practice request form and ing to usopenmail@gmail.com by Tuesday June 25, Transport: Airport transportation between the Hilton Suites hotel and the airport will only be provided for players staying at Hilton Suites hotel; all requests (complete Transport request Form attached) must be ed to usopenmail@gmail.com by Tuesday, June 25,

11 Venue transportation will be provided only between the Hilton Suites Hotel and the Orange County Badminton Club. 22. Accommodation: Hilton Suites - Anaheim/Orange (400 N. State College Blvd., Orange, CA 92868) has been selected as the official headquarters and host hotel for the 2013 YONEX / OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships. Special room rates are $129 plus $10.31 tax per room for Single, Double, Triple or Quad. Rates include full American breakfast buffet for up to 4 persons per room. Reservations must be made before June 8, 2013 for this special rate. All reservations must be done directly with the hotel. USAB is NOT responsible for organizing accommodation for any team or individual player. Visa: Players and officials who require visa to enter USA and/or require visa support letters, kindly complete the visa request form provided by Tuesday June 18, 2013 to the USAB National Office, attention Peggy Savosik at peggy@usabadminton.org USAB will only communicate with a Member Association s National Office. USAB will not be able to provide visa support letters for if the visa request forms are incomplete and are not accompanied by the requested documents. 24. Airline: This discount is offered to USAB members only. You have access to special United Airlines discounts when traveling to USAB sanctioned events. The Continental/United merger has prompted some minimal changes to these discount codes. Book online and enter the code ZMGH when searching for flights. 25. Drug Testing: In accordance with the current regulations of both the International and United States Olympic Committee, random drug testing may be carried out at any time during the course of the competition. All testing will be done in accordance with the current BWF,USAB, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regulations. 12 26. Medical Insurance: All USAB members competing in the 2013 YONEX / OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships are covered by insurance. All non-usab participants are NOT covered by USAB s insurance. USAB encourage non-usab participants to organize medical insurance before arriving in the U.S. USAB is not responsible for medical expenses incurred during the competition. 27. Release & Covenant Not To Sue: By submitting an on-line entry to the 2013 YONEX/OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships, participant (and parent(s)/guardian(s) if participant is of minority age) affirms having read this document and agrees to be bound by its terms. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the 2013 YONEX/OCBC U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Championships and for good and valuable consideration any participant named below, hereinafter called ENTRANT, do hereby agree and covenant with, and release and discharge USA Badminton, Orange County Badminton Club, K & D Graphics, Bebe s Cafe, Yonex Corporation, their employees, agents, officers, members, heirs, assigns, executors and administrators and any and all participants in this event as follows: Entrant does hereby promise, agree and covenant that he/she will never, at any future time, sue or bring action against the forenamed or any of them, reason of any claim for damages, whether such damage arises from the conduct of the tournament or condition of the premises or from any cause whatsoever. Entrant does hereby release, remise and discharge the forenamed, or any of them from all claims, actions, suites, causes of actions and demands of nature, whether at law or in equity, arising from or alleged to arise from any accident or other occurrence during or in connection with this tournament or condition of the premises on which this event takes place. Entrant warrants and represents that he/she will be bound by the rules and regulations of the Badminton World Federation and USA Badminton; is an eligible player as defined by the rules of the organization; understands that the forenamed makes no warranties or guarantees of any nature with respect to the condition of the premises, the operation of the tournament and that no agent or employee is authorized to vary the terms of this agreement, either orally or in writing.
