2 5. Format All events will be Pool Play per USA Badminton Regulations followed by playoffs (where applicable). USAB s pool play rules require that an athlete must complete all of his/her pool matches in order to be credited with a final group position and to have the chance to move on to any playoff round. 6. USAB Membership and US Citizenship a. Athletes must be members in good standing with USA Badminton at the time of registration. b. Players are responsible for providing proof of current USAB membership and US citizenship. 7. How to Qualify for the 2013 Junior International Trial Qualification by Junior Ranking as of 12/31/12 ( Ranking Cut-Off Deadline) will be used for entry into the JIT for the first time this year. The size of each event will be capped at 8, 16, or 32 (best sizes for pool play) based on the size of the event in the last three years. Each of four regions will get at least one slot in the draw for each event subject to the requirement described below. The four regions are: a) SoCal Region; b) NoCal Region; c) Northwest and Midwest Region; and d) Northeast and Southern Region. The event cap sizes are as follows: U11 BS 16 U13 BS 16 U15 BS 32 U17BS 32 U19BS - 16 U11 GS 8 U13 GS 16 U15 GS 16 U17 GS 16 U19 GS 16 U11 BD 8 U13 BD 16 U15 BD 16 U17 BD 16 U19 BD 16 U11 GD 8 U13 GD 8 U15 GD 8 U17 GD 8 U19 GD 8 U11 MX 8 U13 MX 16 U15 MX 16 U17 MX 16 U19 MX 16 If the overall entry is lower than expected and court time permits, then the caps in select events may be increased from the numbers given above as determined by the Tournament Director, Referee, and Junior Ranking Group (JRG). Any US citizen may enter provided that they are under the age limit on 12/31/2013. Both players in a doubles pair must submit separate entry forms. In doubles events no partner requests will be processed. All entries and checks must be received by January 8th, By January 15th, 2013 the Junior Ranking Group (JRG), the Trial Referee, Chris Lawrence with the JIT coordinator, Johanes Susanto will ascertain if any events have more entries than the cap and will finalize the accepted entries for each event. If the number of entries for a particular event is too large based on the cap size, then the JRG will use Junior Rankings as of 12/31/12 ( Ranking Cut-Off Deadline) to determine the entries that can be accepted into the event, subject to region representation as described below. When this results in no representation from one of the four geographical areas defined above, the JRG will examine the ranking list for that event and accept the highest ranked player/pair from the missing geographical area(s) who entered that event. This player/pair will replace the lowest ranked player/pair from the regions with sufficient representation. A player/pair will not be substituted into an event in this manner unless they have a ranking of at least 16 in an event capped at 8, or ranking of 32 in an event capped a 16, or a ranking of 50 in an event capped at 32. A doubles pair consisting of players from different regions shall be considered as representation for both regions. In general, JIT is not an entry level tournament for novice players. Therefore, a player with no ranking is considered a novice. If an event has not filled its cap, and a player documents experience e.g, a player who was ranked the year before but has been out of country he/she will be considered by JRG for an otherwise unfilled entry slot. Players are strongly encouraged to enter even if their current ranking falls below the cap e.g., a player ranked 24 for an event capped at 16, since players with a higher ranking may choose not to enter due to a scheduling conflict, injury, lack of interest etc. If a player is not accepted into JIT because of capping then the entry fee and deposit will be refunded. 8. Entry Fee $40 per player per event (maximum of 3 events consisting of one Singles event, one Doubles event (Boy s or Girls), and one Mixed Doubles event). Additional fees of $40 and $3 are required for all participants applied towards the USAB Junior Coaching Fund and Junior Rankings fund, respectively.

3 9. Deposit a) Initial team deposit shall be set at $100 for each player and is required to be submitted as a separate check along with the completed entry form and entry / coaching fee / ranking fee check. Upon qualifying for the team, an additional $200 is required with a written or electronic acceptance to play. b) The $100 deposit shall be forfeited if a player is called upon to play in either an individual or team event and refuses to participate regardless of the final position attained in JIT. c) Both the $100 and $200 deposit shall be forfeited if a player accepts the offer to play but subsequently withdraws from either the individual or team event in the World Junior Championships or Pan American Junior Championships. d) If the qualified athlete accepts the international invitation, the $100 deposit shall be applied to entry fees into the Pan American Junior Championships and/or World Junior Championships, and towards the hotel, uniform and any other expenses deemed necessary by the USAB Junior Advisory Group. e) If the athlete is not called upon to play in the team then the $100 deposit check shall be destroyed. 10. General Requirements Failure to comply with the following requirements will result in the removal of the athlete from the U.S. delegation: a) Athletes must have paid all outstanding invoices to USAB at least 30 days prior to submission of the entry forms to the Pan American Junior Championships and/or the BWF World Junior Championships. b) Athletes must have signed and returned the USA Badminton Code of Conduct Agreement and the Parental/Guardian Permission and Liability agreement at least 30 days prior to submission of the entry forms to the Pan American Junior Championships and/or the BWF World Junior Championships. c) Athletes participating in the Pan American Junior Championships must meet all eligibility requirements for participation under the Badminton Pan American rules and must comply with all regulations for the event. d) Athletes participating in the World Junior Championships must meet all eligibility requirements for participation under the Badminton World Federation rules and must comply with all regulations for the event. e) All team players participating in the team events are required to participate in a USAB team training camp at the location specified by USAB. The U19 team training camp is tentatively scheduled to be held in Northern California. f) All players participating in these events must stay at the official hotels designated for each event while family members can stay elsewhere. 11. Selection Committee The Selection Committee will be comprised of: Chair of the Junior Advisory Group USAB Director, Coaching & High Performance Junior International Tournament Coordinator Head Coach Individual Event Team Manager 12. Team Event Selection Process (U19 and U17 only) a) USA Badminton reserves the right to revoke selection of an athlete at USA Badminton s sole discretion. b) The 2013 JIT winners of GS, BS, GD, BD, and XD from JIT are selected first. c) Doubles pairs are selected together. If one athlete of a winning Doubles pair is unable to compete, the other athlete is consequently not selected (but may be selected by step 4 below). d) If for either boys or girls, the above procedure does not yield enough athletes, the Singles runner-up is selected next. e) If for either boys or girls the above procedure does not yield enough athletes, then sufficient additional athletes are to be selected in the order of their JIT scoring total based on their two best events Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles using the scoring formula as follows: Each 1st Place = 30 points Each 2nd Place = 15 points Each 3rd Place = 7.5 points Each 4th Place = 5 points Each 5th Place = 3 points Each 6th Place = 2 points Each 7th Place = 1 point Each 8th Place = 1 point f) In the event of a scoring tie with fewer spots available, the singles head-to-head result in JIT will be used to select the next player.

4 g) If there is no singles head-to-head result, then the Boys or Girls Doubles head-to-head JIT result will be used. h) In the case of neither a singles nor doubles head-to-head result being available then the Mixed Doubles head-to-head JIT result will be used. i) If there is still a tie, then a coin toss(es) will be used to select among the tied athletes. j) Any remaining Team spots vacant after all the U19 JIT results are exhausted will be filled by the Selection Committee from among the U17 winner(s) or from the top 8 boys/girls in the National Junior Ranking. k) The Pan American and World Junior Championships Teams may be different. 13. Individual Event Selection Process (U19, U17, U15, U13 and U11) a) USA Badminton reserves the right to revoke selection of an athlete at USA Badminton s sole discretion. b) Team members receive no priorities regarding their entries into the individual competitions. c) Doubles teams qualify as a pair if one athlete of a Doubles pair rejects selection or is unable to compete, then the athlete s partner is consequently de-selected in that event also. d) The top 4 finishers in singles will be selected. If there are any openings, then players will be selected according to their singles rank order from the 2013 JIT results. e) The top 2 pairs in each Boy s Doubles and Girl s Doubles event, and the top 4 pairs in each Mixed Doubles event will be selected. If there are any openings, then players will be selected according to their doubles rank order from the top 8 (eight) 2013 JIT results in doubles and Mixed Doubles. f) If all the Trial results/ranking for a given age group doubles event have been applied and there are still additional spots available, then the Selection Committee has the discretion to select either re-formed pairs, or pairs from lower age groups according to their rank order finish from the 2013 JIT, or from the top 12 boys/girls in the National Ranking System as of 1/8/13 for an event. g) Reformed pairs i) Reformed pairs will only be used at the Selection Committee s discretion. ii) If there is a vacant position(s) after the top eight pairs have been offered positions, the Selection Committee may decide to use reformed pairs from that event or to select from lower age group players who competed in 2013 JIT to select complete pairs. Players from the top eight teams whose partners opted not to play, may recombine. Recombined pairs shall be prioritized for selection according to their total scores in that event, based on the point system detailed in (12e). iii) Once the reformed pair is formed and accepted, it is final. iv) If there are no remaining top eight ranked players for that event, then reformed pairs can be made for those players already going to the Pan American Junior Championships or BWF World Junior Championships but not playing in that event. The ranking shall be based on the formula in Section 12e. 14. Penalty After acceptance of an offer to participate in either the Pan American Junior Championships or the BWF World Junior Championships, withdrawal for any reason other than a documented medical condition precluding play shall result in forfeiture of all deposits and removal from both the Pan American Junior Championships and BWF World Junior Championships. 15. Injury a) In the case of injury arising after an athlete has been selected, but prior to departure, the Selection Committee reserves the right to revoke selection of the athlete if, in the Committee s sole discretion, the athlete s or the team performance will be compromised. The Selection Committee reserves the right to select a player/pair based on the criteria above to replace the injured athletes. b) An injured player whose selection has been revoked according to (a) above may petition the Selection Committee for reinstatement providing that he/she provides all of the following: i) demonstration of extraordinary results prior to or after the injury; ii) a board certified medical doctor s certificate attesting to full recovery; iii) information from the athlete s personal coach confirming a return to full capability; iv) conclusive evidence and proof that they would surpass other potential candidates.
