It s going to be exciting, head coach Jarod Cerota said. It looks like it is going to be a great day with great weather. It has been a long road swing, so it s nice to be home and play in front of our own crowd. After hosting the Fighting Hawks, CSU will visit the state of Texas during spring break for matches at both Texas State and UTSA. The Rs will then travel to the state of Nebraska for a pair of matches before beginning conference play at the end of the month. The te is really showing perseverance during the rough moments, Cerota said about the te s growth. They are really believing in themselves and noticing that they are pretty darn good. They are learning that high-percentage tennis is more effective in high-pressure, tight-te matches. MATCH INFO First serve at 1 p.m. MT, beginning with doubles play. The match will be held outdoors at the University Tennis Complex, located just south of cpus (2400 Research Blvd.). Admission to the match is free. ive scoring can be found on CSURs. com (search tennis schedule), with updates on Twitter (@CSURsTennis). SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA The visiting Fighting Hawks come into Friday s match with a 6-7 mark. UND has won back-to-back matches, defeating Southern Utah and Omaha last weekend. UND is 5-1 at home, but just 1-6 away from its home court. Four players have a winning singles record this spring, led by Mimi Yunker, who is 7-5 (2-1 from No. 1 position). ee Faith is on a three-match winning streak. UND is coached by Tom Wynne, who is in his 26th season with the progr. He also coaches the men s te. 2 AST TIME OUT The Rs visited as Vegas last weekend for three matches against some of the top tes in the country. The Rs went 1-2, sweeping UC Riverside (4-0) and falling to No. 40 FIU and No. 46 UNV. On Saturday, CSU split its contests, beginning the day with a 4-0 loss to FIU before rebounding in the afternoon with a dominating win over the Highlanders. Against UC Riverside, the Rs won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Emily Kolbow and Alyssa Grijalva won 6-2, followed by an emotional 7-5 victory at the No. 2 position, featuring Celine Voss and Riley Reeves. The doubles win set up a trio of straight-sets singles victories. Kolbow (No. 1), Reeves (No. 2) and Grijalva (No. 3) won their second matches of the afternoon with impressive wins. Kolbow won 6-2, 6-4, but both Grijalva (7-5, 6-1) and Reeves (7-6, 6-3) had close opening sets earning tight victories and setting up follow-up wins in Set 2. Voss (No. 4), Sandra Keta (No. 5) and Solene Crawley (No. 6) did not finish their matches once the Rs fourth point was clinched. The weekend concluded at UNV, with the Rebels winning four singles matches, including at No. 1, where they were represented by the 31stranked player in the nation. The tes began the day with singles play due to high winds, and did not play doubles once UNV won the point. STEEP COMPETITION CSU has earned three victories on the young season, but it s the recent losses that could help the Rs grow the most. CSU s last three losses have come to some of the top tes in the nation. On Feb. 19, CSU lost to Nebraska, who last week entered the ITA rankings at No. 39. This past weekend, CSU was defeated by FIU (now No. 26) and UNV (now No. 45), in addition to beating UC Riverside. CAMEROTA EARNS FIRST VICTORY, RAMS SPIT ROAD TRIP CSU earned a split Jan , beating Milwaukee before falling to Wisconsin of the Big Ten. Despite playing on the road, CSU had more than 50 fans at both matches, playing in the home state of head coach Jarod Cerota and sophomore Emily Kolbow, and nearby several other current, future and former Rs. We appreciate the tremendous support all weekend, Cerota said. It s great to see how much fan support we have all across the country. We learned and grew from this weekend. CSU s win over Milwaukee was the first for Cerota, who is in his first season leading the Rs. Overall, all seven players won either their singles or doubles match, with Kolbow winning both. FA REWIND The Rs competed in four fall tournents from September-November, allowing the four freshmen to adjust to the college ge and for the entire te to jell together under first-year head coach Jarod Cerota. During the fall, the Rs used 15 different doubles lineups, leaning heavily on the veteran duo of seniors Madison Porter and Celine Voss (3-1). In singles action, freshman Riley Reeves proved to be a great addition to the Rs roster, picking up six victories, with several coming from the No. 3 post. On the last day of the fall, the final day at UNV, I think the light turned on in our heads that we can be a good te, Cerota said. We are a young te, but that s exciting. RETURNING TO THE COURT Returning to the court this spring are three players from last year s ros- RAMS NOTEBOOK ter, a trio that entered with more than 50 career singles wins and more than 60 doubles victories. Senior Celine Voss is the veteran of the group, playing in her fourth season with the progr. Additionally, Madison Porter (New Mexico) began her collegiate career elsewhere before finding her home at CSU. Porter enters her senior spring season with 57 career victories to her ne (27 singles, 30 doubles), Just a freshman last year, Emily Kolbow earned six singles wins competing at the No. 1-3 positions and a te-high-tying five doubles victories. ate in the year, she won three singles matches in a row. NEWCOMERS MAKING THEIR MARK Four true freshmen made their collegiate debuts in September, and each immediately made a mark on the progr. Riley Reeves led all players with six singles victories, in addition to five doubles wins mostly at the No. 1 position, while Sandra Keta ranked second on the te with five singles wins (plus three doubles wins). Alyssa Grijalva competed at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for the majority of the fall, advancing to the Air Force Flight A chpionship, and Solene Crawley advanced to the Rebel Flight 3 doubles chpionship. CAMEROTA AT THE HEM For the first time in 31 seasons, the Colorado State tennis progr is under a new direction. ongtime coach Jon Messick retired following the season, and over the summer, Jarod Cerota his assistant during his final year was ned the head coach. We are excited to have Jarod remain at Colorado State, where he made an immediate impact during his time as assistant coach, director of athletics Joe Parker said at the time of his hiring. Throughout our national search, it become evident that Jarod had the ability to not only relate to our current student-athletes but also recruit talented players who will become the next wave of our tennis progr. Prior to his one season at CSU, Cerota was an assistant at Northern Arizona ( ), helping the umberjacks to a fourth-place finish and a semifinals berth in the Big Sky Conference chpionship. Before NAU, he spent two seasons ( ) as a tennis pro at Northwestern. Cerota has previous head coaching experience, as well, holding three head coaching jobs. From , he was the head men s and women s tennis coach at Jacksonville University, followed by a stint as the men s tennis coach at Georgia State from , and three years ( ) as the head men s and women s tennis coach at Mars Hill College. MEDIN JOINS STAFF After being ned head coach, one of Cerota s first objectives was completing his coaching staff. He did that by bringing in Erica Medlin. Erica was my first choice, even before I got the job, Cerota said. I hired her because of her maturity and ability to coach, and she has incredible loyalty. She was also a great player, but that s secondary to her being a great coach and a hard worker. Medlin ce to CSU after one season ( ) as the assistant coach for Northern Arizona. During her stint in Flagstaff, Medlin helped the umberjacks to a Big Sky regular-season chpionship and runner-up finish in the conference tournent. Four of her players earned All-Big Sky honors, with the top doubles te ranking No. 81 nationally. She is a former collegiate tennis player, spending two years at San José State and her final two seasons at Northern Iowa. As a senior in 2015, Medlin was ned the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. She also earned two All-WAC honors as SJSU, helping the Spartans to their firstever NCAA appearance.

All three are really good students, good kids and good competitors on the court, and we think they ll bring a lot to our progr, Cerota said about the trio who signed in November and will join the progr in the fall.
