St. Bonaventure Associate head coach John Wasielewski begins his 17th season on the Duke volleyball staff and his 13th in his current position after earning a promotion from assistant coach in January Wasielewski joined the Duke staff in 1999, just one month after Jolene Nagel was named head coach, and has been instrumental in bringing the Duke volleyball program to its current level of success. His impact on the program s recruiting, training and scouting is tremendous, helping the Blue Devils advance to the NCAA Tournament 12 times while capturing five ACC Championships. Wasielewski has been a part of four ACC Coach of the Year staffs and four East Region Coach of the Year staffs. During his tenure, the Blue Devils have established themselves as one of the elite programs on the East Coast and an annual favorite for the ACC Championship. With a resume that includes win seasons, 12 NCAA Tournament trips and 17 All- Americans, Wasielewski has emerged as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation. Since joining the program 16 years ago, Wasielewski has helped the Blue Devils compile a overall record and a mark in ACC play. With Wasielewski s help, the Blue Devils have claimed four ACC Championships since 2000 while finishing among the top three in the conference standings in 11 of the past 13 seasons. In just his third year at the helm alongside Nagel, Wasielewski coached the Blue Devils to the 2001 ACC Regular Season Championship. That season sparked an 11-year run that saw the Blue Devils qualify for the NCAA Tournament nine times while winning the ACC in 2006, 2008 and In 2010, the Blue Devils ventured deeper into the NCAA Tournament than any team in program history, becoming the third ACC team to reach the NCAA Regional Final. Five Blue Devils including ACC Player of the Year and AVCA All-American Kellie Catanach were named both All-ACC and All-East Region. In 2013, Duke made its 18th NCAA Tournament appearance as the Blue Devils earned the No. 16 national seed and hosted the opening rounds of the tournament for the fifth time in program history. The Blue Devils clinched the ACC title and the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a thrilling five-set victory over rival North Carolina in the regular season finale. Wasielewski has overseen the development of Duke s last four ACC Players of the Year in outside hitter Emily Sklar (2013), setter Kellie Catanach (2010), middle blocker Carrie DeMange (2007) and setter Ali Hausfeld (2006). Catanach started every match of her career at Duke while leadingthe Blue Devils to two ACC Championships and four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. DeMange and Hausfeld, meanwhile, were key components to one of the most successful spans in Duke volleyball history. From , DeMange and Hausfeld led Duke to four straight 20-win seasons, three NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2006 ACC Championship and a school-record 38-match winning streak at home in Cameron Indoor Stadium. DeMange left as the ACC s all-time kills leader, and Hausfeld set Duke s all-time assists record. Wasielewski s impact is also noticeable on the recruiting trail where he helped bring in 17 All-Americans and 20 players who went on to collect All- ACC honors. Additionally, Wasielewski recruited the 2006 ACC and East Region Freshman of the Year in 2009 graduate Rachael Moss and 15 ACC All-Freshman Team members. An active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), Wasielewski was a voter for the AVCA s Top-25 Coaches Poll from Before coming to Duke, Wasielewski served as head coach at St. Bonaventure University from Wasielewski built the Bonnies volleyball program into one of the Atlantic 10 s more competitive squads. During his tenure at St. Bonaventure, Wasielewski implemented a weightlifting and conditioning program. He also developed a mentor program and a freshman study group, promoting academic development. Wasielewski also served as club director and clinician for the Cobra Volleyball Club. Prior to taking over the top spot at St. Bonaventure, Wasielewski spent two seasons as an assistant coach overseeing the offseason workouts of the players and helping with the recruitment of student-athletes. During his stint as a Bonnies assistant, Wasielewski earned his master s degree in education in Wasielewski began his coaching career at his alma mater, Penn State, as a student-assistant coach for the women s program during the 1989 season, helping the Nittany Lions to a 34-7 record and the Big Ten Championship. A 1990 Penn State graduate with a degree in economics, Wasielewski was a four-year member of the Nittany Lion program, helping Penn State to two NCAA Final Four appearances in 1987 and As a junior and senior, he served as a team captain and still holds the Penn State record with nine service aces in a match, which he accomplished in Wasielewski also competed in both the 1986 and 1987 U.S. Olympic Festivals, earning a bronze medal in both appearances. Wasielewski and his wife Jennifer reside in Hillsborough, N.C., with their son (Jack) and daughter (Jenna). 8

11 Cristina Robertson Assistant Coach (7 th Season at Duke) B.S. Long Island 05 M.S. Troy After joining the Blue Devils in 2009, Cristina Robertson (née Pintilie) returns for her seventh year on the Duke volleyball staff. Among other duties, Robertson assists with team training, recruiting and scouting. Since her arrival in Durham, Robertson has helped the Blue Devils to a overall record and an mark in ACC play. The Blue Devils have finished in the top three in the league in all but one season since her arrival, capturing the conference crown in 2010 and With her help, Duke has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in five of the past six seasons, including 2010 when the Blue Devils enjoyed a run to the NCAA Regional Final before falling to eventual national champion Penn State. Robertson has also aided in the development of nine All-Americans, 10 All- East Region selections and 12 All-ACC picks, including 2013 ACC Player of the Year Emily Sklar, 2010 ACC Player of the Year Kellie Catanach and threetime ACC Defensive Player of the Year Ali McCurdy. Catanach finished her career ranked second on Duke s all-time list and ninth in ACC history with 5,364 assists, while McCurdy broke Duke s career digs record. In addition, Robertson helped guide middle blocker Christiana Gray, who became the 21st Duke player to reach 1,000 career kills in Gray wrapped up a stellar career, leaving her mark in both the Duke and ACC record books. With 1,112 career kills, she ranked 18th in the school record books, while her.350 career hitting percentage was good for third all-time at Duke and eighth in the ACC. Gray also totaled 491 career blocks and averaged 1.03 blocks per set. Those numbers ranked fourth and tied for seventh in Duke history, respectively. Duke s defense was among the best in the country during the 2010 season, Robertson s second in Durham, which was due in part to the development of middle blockers Gray, Becci Burling and Amanda Robertson. Each of those three were named All-ACC and All-East Region while helping Duke hold opponents to a.173 hitting percentage, which was the second lowest in the ACC. The Blue Devils earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season and advanced further in the tournament than any team in program history. After securing the 2010 ACC Championship, the Blue Devils won three NCAA Tournament matches to make the NCAA Regional Final, becoming just the third ACC team to reach that round. In her first season, Robertson coached a Blue Devil squad that held opponents to an ACC-low.160 hitting percentage and went 27-6 overall and 17-3 in the ACC. A former middle blocker at Long Island, Robertson mentored Duke s middle blocking trio of Burling, Gray and Robertson, which emerged as one of the top middle units in the conference. Both Burling, a junior, and Gray, a freshman, topped 100 blocks in 2009 while Robertson nearly tripled the number of blocks she posted as a freshman. Offensively, Robertson oversaw a Blue Devil squad that led the ACC in kills and assists while ranking among the top three in hitting percentage, blocks and service aces. Prior to Duke, Robertson served two seasons as an assistant coach at Colgate, helping the Raiders to backto-back winning seasons in 2007 and 2008 and two consecutive runs to the Patriot League Championship match. Robertson assisted in all aspects of the program while at Colgate. With her assistance, the Raiders finished 11-3 in the Patriot League in 2007 and 9-5 in conference play in Colgate was among the best all-around teams in the conference each year, finishing second in digs in back-to-back years and among the top five in hitting percentage, lowest opponent hitting percentage and blocks each season. Robertson mentored three two-time All-Patriot League players, a Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a Patriot League Co-Defensive Player of the Year. In her first year with the program, Robertson assisted Colgate head coach Ryan Baker in collecting the Patriot League Coach of the Year award. Robertson s coaching career began at Troy where she served as a graduate assistant for two seasons. With Troy, Robertson assisted with the dayto-day operations of the program, coordinating team travel and equipment and working with the summer camps program. Before beginning her career as a coach, Robertson played three years as a middle blocker at Long Island University and helped the team capture the 2004 Northeast Conference Championship. During the championship run that propelled Long Island to an NCAA Tournament berth, Robertson was named NEC Tournament MVP and All-NEC first team. A two-time Long Island team MVP in 2002 and 2003, Robertson finished the 2003 season ranked fourth nationally in kills per set. In 2012, the LIU Department of Athletics inducted Robertson into its Hall of Fame as she became the first Hall of Fame inductee from the Blackbirds volleyball program. A native of Romania, Robertson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Adapted Physical Education from Long Island University s Arnold and Marie Schwartz School of Sports Sciences in She went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Sport and Fitness Management from Troy in Robertson resides with her husband, Terrence, in Durham, N.C. 9
