Alexa Rand leads the conference and is 9th in the nation in individual blocking, with a 1.42 per set average. She crossed the 300 block plateau in her 59th career match Natalie Patzin reached the 500-kill-500 dig milestone last week Clemson ranks 10th nationally and first in the ACC with a 2.83 blocks/set average; The Tigers have led the ACC in blocking in each of the past three seasons The Tigers have gone to five sets six times, and have a 4-2 mark in those contests. 3 Team Notes This Week s Matchup Notes: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - 6:30 pm Friday Livestats: ClemsonTigers.com Clemson opened the 2010 ACC season with a 3-2 win over Georgia Tech during the Clemson Classic on Sept. 17 The Tigers took advantage of a plus-15 scoring margin on serves, as the Yellow Jackets had 15 service errors, and Clemson had seven aces, to go against three Tech aces and four Tiger service errors. Sandra Adeleye had 16 kills and four blocks, and Alexa Rand had a career-high four solo blocks to go with two block assists and eight kills. Natalie Patzin had 12 kills for Clemson as well Rand had key back-to-back blocks at the end of the fifth set to clinch the match, including a solo on Tech sophomore Monique Mead Mead leads the ACC with a 4.31 kills/set average, while her teammate Mary Ashley Tippins is fourth in the ACC in assists per set Sandra Adeleye named to All-ACC Team Sophomore Sandra Adeleye was named to the 2010 All-ACC team for the second straight season The Katy, TX native ranks fourth in the ACC in kills, fourth in points/set, and third in blocking. She leads all conference middles in kills and points She is the second player in school history to earn all-conference honors as a freshman and a sophomore. Brenner had seven double-doubles, and averaged 9.78 assists and 2.17 digs per set this year Clemson is the only school to have more than one freshman named to the seven-member team Brenner was named the Freshman of the Week twice while Simmons earned the honor once Brenner recorded the fourth-most assists by a freshman in school history Tigers honor senior Cansu Ozdemir Cansu Ozdemir is Clemson s only senior player on the 2010 team The native of Istanbul, Turkey will graduate with a degree in Genetics in May Ozdemir spent two seasons as a right-side hitter, compiling 195 kills, 163 assists, and 90 blocks. She moved to libero this season, and has excelled. She has 457 digs this season, good for an average of 4.3 per set, and ranks seventh in the ACC in that category. For her career, Ozdemir has 795 digs and 79 aces She is one of only four senior classes in school history to reach three NCAA Tournaments Clemson has compiled a (.720) record in her four seasons, and won the 2007 ACC Championship in her freshman season Approaching Milestones Natalie Patzin needs 6 digs to reach the 500 kill-500 dig career club; she recorded her 500th kill against Virginia Tech Alexa Rand is crossed the 300-block career milestone with six against Virginia Tech Mo Simmons needs 8 blocks for 100 in her freshman season The Future looks Bright The 2010 roster features five freshmen and five sophomores The only senior is Cansu Ozdemir, and the only junior is Brittany Fennell, who is currently out with a back injury Despite the youth, Clemson also started three freshmen regularly in 2009 along with three seniors and a junior Clemson s freshmen last season combined to produce the following: 463 total sets played 850 kills (50.9% of team total) 313 total blocks This season, freshmen and sophomores have accounted for 100% of the team s kills and blocks Clemson has had three freshmen start in Hannah Brenner (setter), Mo Simmons (right side), and Camila Rosado (back row), and Jennifer Lane has appeared as a server in 19 sets. She also added seven kills and three blocks in the match. On Saturday, she led Clemson to.308 hitting with 46 assists, five digs, four blocks and four kills in a four-set win over Virginia Tech. On the weekend, she averaged assists per set and 1.88 digs per set, and Clemson hit.292 as a team. Tigers sign three for 2011 The Clemson Volleyball Team has signed three players in the 2011 class, head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced on Wednesday. Outside hitter Kristin Faust, setter Kamryn Sherman, and middle blocker Karis Watson have each signed on to join the team in the 2011 season. Both Watson and Faust sent in their NLI s by 8:30 am. Sherman, who will actually graduate in December and enroll at Clemson in January, signed her Financial Aid Agreement. Defense Dictating Tigers Play (See Table 2) The Tigers are 10th in the nation in blocking (2.83 per set) and rank 4th in the ACC in opp. hitting percentage (.189) Clemson has led the ACC in blocking in each of the previous two seasons (2008 & 2009), and will do so for a third straight season 2010 Clemson Volleyball Notes ClemsonTigers.com

4 Team Notes Alexa Rand ranks leads the ACC in blocks/set at 1.42 per set, and Adeleye is in 3rd at 1.11 Cansu Ozdemir (4.47) is 5th in digs per set, and has 53 in her last two matches, including a career-high 32 in the most recent match against NC State Rand recorded her 200th career block against Florida A&M, with it taking her only 45 career matches to reach the milestone, and reached 300 in her 59th career match. She has 112 total blocks in 19 ACC matches so far. Rand also set the school single-match blocking record when she had 15 against Duke (2 BS, 13 BA) on Sept. 25. She also added 12 against North Carolina. Clemson s 21.0 blocks vs. Duke and 20.0 against North Carolina represent two of the top eight blocking matches in Clemson history. Double the Trouble Serenat Yaz has recorded 18 double-doubles in 2010, including 15 in 17 ACC matches so far The sophomore is averaging 3.14 kills and 3.58 digs per set for the season Freshman setter Hannah Brenner has six double-doubles on the season, and has come up just short of a triple-double on two occasions So far, there have been 32 total double-doubles by five different players Brenner Named ACC Freshman of the Week (Oct. 25) Brenner was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 25 after leading Clemson to wins against Boston College and Maryland She averaged 12.1 assists, 1.6 kills, 1.6 digs, and 1.3 blocks per set in the two matches, and led Clemson to above-.300 hitting matches in each win Brenner was just shy of a triple-double on Friday against Maryland, when she finished with 46 assists, 9 kills, 8 digs, and 4 blocks. Clemson s 59 kills against Maryland were a season-high, despite only being a four-set match. The Tigers have played in six five-set matches with fewer kills. Simmons nabs ACC Freshman of the Week honor (Sept. 21) Simmons was named ACC freshman of the Week for the week of Sept , which included the Clemson Classic She averaged two kills and two digs per set, while also leading the tournament in hitting percentage (.442) and aces (4) It was Clemson s first FOTW honor since 1999, the last year of the award before this season. Tigers Claim Clemson Classic Title (Sept. 19) Clemson went 3-0 with wins over Georgia Tech (3-2), Georgia State (3-0), and Florida A&M to take the Clemson Classic Tournament victory. The win over GT was Clemson s first ACC-opener win since The Tigers defeated Georgia Tech in a five set thriller, which saw Clemson come back from a deficit in the fifth set for the victory. Sandra Adeleye s 16 kills paced the Tigers, while Natalie Patzin had 12 kills. Alexa Rand had two blocks as the final two points to help the Tigers clinch the match Georgia State was the next up for the Tigers, who hit.422 in the match, and won the second set, 25-6, en route to a 3-0 victory. Patzin s 13 kills paced the Tigers, while Lacy Hayes had 35 assists in three sets and led Clemson to a.773 hitting mark in the second set. The Tigers hit a season-best.451 on the day against Florida A&M in a three-set victory. Serenat Yaz led all players with 11 kills, while Sandra Adeleye collected 10 kills and 7 blocks. Adeleye was named Tournament MVP, while Alexa Rand and Lacy Hayes each earned their first career all-tournament honors. Tigers go 1-2 in Spartan Invitational (Sept. 11) Clemson defeated Eastern Michigan and fell to Michigan State and Eastern Illinois in the Spartan Invitational. Eastern Michigan was named the champion after defeating Michigan State in the final match of the tournament, giving Clemson the only win over the champion. Clemson had 37.0 blocks in the three matches for a 3.36 per-set average Sophomore Natalie Patzin was named to the All-Tournament team after posting 27 kills and 15 digs in the three matches Sandra Adeleye also had strong numbers individually, with 30 kills and 17 total blocks. Cansu Ozdemir led all Tigers with 46 digs in the three matches Clemson Wins Carolina Challenge (Sept. 4) The Tigers went 3-0 from Sept. 3-4 in three match against in-state opponents in the unofficial state tournament Clemson defeated South Carolina 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-19) behind 12 kills from Sandra Adeleye and 10.0 team blocks The Tigers then took down host Winthrop, hitting a season-best.423 behind 14 Serenat Yaz kills, 12 from Adeleye, and 10 from Natalie Patzin. The Tigers won 3-0 (30-28, 25-16, 25-18) College of Charleston took the Tigers to five sets, but Clemson won the fifth set, 15-13, to win the tournament. Cansu Ozdemir had a career high 24 digs and Serenat Yaz had a career-high 20 kills and 12 digs as the Tigers remained perfect. Libero Cansu Ozdemir had 17 digs and averaged 4.89 per set for the tournament. Clemson won the three matches with solid defense, holding each of the three opponents to a sub-.100 hitting percentage, and leveling out with a.054 average for the three matches.
