Center in Louisville, Ky. If the Wolverines defeat the Volunteers, U-M will then face the winner of the No. 9 (No. 10 national seed) Louisville/Belmont match on Friday night (Nov. 30) at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that match will move on to the Berkeley Regional Dec The Wolverines are coming off road wins at Michigan State and No. 14 Ohio State to close the regular season. Scouting the Opposition Tennessee Tennessee (22-7) finished 15-5 in the Southeastern Conference, good for a second-place finish in the East Division. The Volunteers are coming off a straight-set win over Mississippi State on Nov. 23. Kelsey Robinson had 15 kills while Ellen Mullins added 15 digs in the win. Robinson leads the Volunteers with 4.28 kills and 3.44 digs per set. Mary Pollmiller is averaging assists per set and DeeDee Harrison leads UT with 110 blocks. Louisville Louisville (29-3) is coming off a three-set win over Belmont on Nov. 23. Gwen Rucker had a matchhigh 15 kills while Caitlin Welch added 20 digs and Brooke Mattingly tallied six total blocks. Louisville won the BIG EAST Tournament with victories over St. John s, Cincinnati and Marquette, all in three sets. WOLVERINE PROBABLE STARTERS* Belmont Belmont (18-16) earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title, defeating Eastern Illinois in four, Southeast Missouri State in five and Morehead State in four in the championship match. Allison McCoy had 16 kills in that match, while Jamie Lundstrom added 25 digs. On the season, Jen Myer leads the Bruins with 2.83 kills per set, while Lundstrom averages 5.11 digs a set. Alex Martin leads the team with 89 blocks and Hannah Miranda has assists a set. Louisville First & Second Rounds Series Records Michigan leads the overall series with Tennessee 3-1, including winning the last meeting 3-1 on Sept. 4, 2009, at the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. Juliana Paz had 18 kills and Lexi Zimmerman added 42 assists and 17 digs in the win. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in postseason play... Louisville holds the all-time series advantage 3-2 on Michigan, but the Wolverines won the only NCAA Tournament meeting against the Cardinals. The Maize and Blue defeated Louisville 3-1 in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.... The Wolverines have an all-time record of (not including two-year Canadian schools). Michigan has 12 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, four berths to the Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight run during the 2009 season. Rosen Readies for 14th Season Head coach Mark Rosen is in his 14th season as head coach of the Michigan volleyball program. Since taking over in Ann Arbor, Rosen has led U-M to 11 NCAA berths, four Sweet 16s, an Elite Eight appearance and a record. His wife, Leisa Rosen, joins him on the sidelines for the 14th consecutive season, while assistant coach Erin Virtue and volunteer assistant Craig Boller are back for their second seasons. Big Ten Leaders Junior Jennifer Cross is second in the Big Ten in blocks per set (1.28/s). Sophomore Lexi Dannemiller is third in the league in assists per set (11.16/s). Freshman Tiffany Morales is seventh in the league in digs per set (3.79/s). Junior Lexi Erwin is eighth in the conference in both points (4.55/s) and kills per set (4.02/s). As a team, Michigan is fifth in kills (13.77/s), digs (14.81/s) and assists per set (12.86/s). Cross, Erwin, Morales Selected to All-Big Ten Teams Juniors Jennifer Cross and Lexi Erwin were named to the 16-member All-Big Ten team, while freshman Tiffany Morales was a unanimous selection to the conference s all-freshman team, the league announced this morning (Tuesday, Nov. 27). In addition, fifth-year senior Claire McElheny was U-M s honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. This is the third time in program history that two Wolverines were named to the All-Big Ten team. Lexi Zimmerman and Juliana Paz were selected to the team in 2009, while Zimmerman joined Alex Hunt in Morales also earns Michigan s third straight selection to the allfreshman team after Cross in 2010 and Lexi Dannemiller last season. Erwin Picks Up 1,000th Kill in OSU Win Junior Lexi Erwin picked up her 1,000th career kill in the first point of the fourth set in the 3-1 win at No. 14 Ohio State on Nov. 23. Erwin now has 1,006 career kills and is just 56 kills away from cracking into the top-10 of U-M s kills list. Erwin had 22 kills in the match against the Buckeyes, her 29th double-digit kill performance of U-M Picks Up Road Win Against Ranked Opponent Michigan picked up its fifth win against a ranked opponent this season in a 3-1 win at No. 14 Ohio State on Nov. 23. It was also the first true road win against a ranked opponent for the Maize and Blue and first since its 2011 NCAA Tournament second round win against Stanford. Michigan has won its last three matches versus a ranked opponent this season, having defeated No. 4 Nebraska on Nov. 2 and No. 10 Minnesota on Nov. 10. Toon Lifts U-M to Win at Michigan State Junior Molly Toon had a match-high 16 kills in Michigan s straight-set win at Michigan State on Nov. 21. Toon also had a.519 hitting percentage ( ) in the match. She added four blocks, two of them solo, and five digs as the Wolverines split the season series with the Spartans. First-Set Comeback Highlights Victory over MSU Michigan was down in the first set at Michigan State on Nov. 21, but came back to take the set and win the match 3-0. Lexi Erwin started the rally with a kill and was followed by a Molly Toon solo block. Toon then had a kill to tie the set at 24. Lindsey Lerg had a big service ace to give U-M set point, which it clinched with a Michigan State attack error. Michigan Reaches 20-Win Mark Michigan earned its 20th win of the season in the 3-0 victory over Wisconsin on Nov. 9. It marked the seventh straight season the Wolverines have won 20 matches in a year. Also, it is the 14th time in school history the Maize and Blue has won at least 20 matches in a season. Wolverines Notch Two Top-10 Wins Michigan defeated top-10 teams in back-to-back weekends for the first time in school history. Michigan defeated No. 4 Nebraska last Friday (Nov. 2) and Minnesota this past Saturday (Nov. 10). The only other time U-M has defeated two top-10 teams in a season was in 2009 when the Wolverines beat No. 3 Nebraska to open the season on Aug. 28 and defeated No. 4 Stanford in the NCAA Regional semifinals on Dec. 11. Cross Hits Top 10 School Marks in Blocks Junior Jennifer Cross entered the top-10 in all three blocking categories at Michigan. Cross has 399 career total blocks going into this weekend s matches. That puts her in fifth place on the career total blocks mark and is 33 blocks away from Erin Moore ( ) for the fourth spot. Cross 57 solo blocks are seventh all-time at U-M. She needs three to tie Beth Karpiak ( ) for sixth place. Cross 342 block assists are good for sixth place on the all-time block assist list. She is 10 away from Nicole Poquette ( ) from fifth place on U-M s list. Cross also is currently on the single season and career lists for hitting percentage. In 2012, Cross is hitting.321, which puts her in sixth on the single-season list. In her career, the junior is hitting.293, which currently is fourth on U-M s career hitting percentage list. Cross also is sixth on the single-season list as she hit.316 in Dannemiller Moves Up Assist List Sophomore Lexi Dannemiller moved into fifth place on Michigan s all-time assist list on Nov. 9 against Wisconsin. She had 41 assists on the night and now has 2,885 assists in her career. She passed Tarnisha Thompson ( ) for fifth place on the list. Wolverines Sign Trio to NLI s University of Michigan head volleyball coach Mark Rosen announced Nov. 19 the signing of Gabbie Bulic (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), Abby Cole (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and Cindy Zhou (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Bulic, a 6-4 middle blocker, earned first team alldistrict and all-conference honors as well as all-ohio honorable mention her senior year at Brunswick High School in Brunswick, Ohio. Cole, a 6-5 middle blocker, was the runner-up for Michigan s Miss Volleyball and was named to the Under Armour All-America second team as a senior at Grand Haven High School in Grand Haven, Mich. Zhou, a 6-0 setter, helped the Wildcats to regional and conference championships in 2012 and was named an Under Armour All-America honorable mention as a senior. Oh Captain, My Captain Michigan has two captains this season. Fifth-year right side Claire McElheny and senior/junior defensive specialist Brittany Lee will serve as captains for the 2012 season. Cross on Canadian National Team Junior Jennifer Cross spent time this summer on the Canadian National Team at the Pan American Games in Ciudad Jaurez, Chihuahua, Mexico. 8 MARK ROSEN 14TH YEAR OVERALL AT MICHIGAN Rosen Enters His 14th Year at Michigan Mark Rosen enters his 14th year at Michigan in 2012, compiling a mark in Ann Arbor. He has coached four All-Americans in Erin Moore, Lexi Zimmerman, Juliana Paz and Alex Hunt. Rosen is joined on the sidelines by his wife and associate head coach, Leisa Rosen, and assistants Erin Virtue and Craig Boller (volunteer). Winningest Coach at Michigan With a 3-1 win over Purdue during the 2008 season, Mark Rosen became the program s winningest coach. The victory was his 178th at Michigan, passing Sandy Vong s previous mark of 177 triumphs. With a 3-0 win over Marquette during 2009, Rosen became the first coach at Michigan to win 200 matches. How He Stacks Up With his 470 career wins at four-year colleges to enter the 2012 season, Mark Rosen ranks 28th among the winningest active coaches.
